  • This week we set off to Southern California to explore one of the states largest abandoned mining complex. This area beneath our feet has about 20 miles of tunnels underground. In this video, we explored the west wing of the mine complex, this mine was last worked in 1897 as it happens to be the oldest part of the complex. Join us as we slip in to this century old, artifact filled abandoned mine.

    Thats a fun one. We were camped there in 1996 and a bunch of college kids showed up to study the mine for a geology class. Kinda crazy. The view west of there is amazing. The dust in that one is crazy, if not the craziest i ever seen.

      Wow pretty cool! I could only imagine what it looked like in 1996. You got that right.. the dust was like snow, it was inches thick. Mainly in just that one area in the main haulage but we still had our masks on the entire time.

      @@Kennerunderground , that's the spot indeed, moon dust, LOL. I haven't seen that mine in nearly 30 years now. Fun to see the equipment again

    Another great explore for the books! Seeing this reminds me of how huge that mine is. Can't wait to see Part 2

    Wow that looks like such an adventure. That wood mining structure outside is awesome! Is the mine portal right above that wooden structure on the flat area?

    • @Kennerunderground
      @Kennerunderground  Год назад

      Yep! The big wooden structure is called an ore bin. It serves as a big sorting chute to load the mules up with ore brought outside. And yes the portal sits along the mountain side flush with the top waste rock pile

      @cameronj234 Год назад

      @@Kennerunderground oh wow that interesting! I did not know that is what it’s called! Is it normal to have the portal just approx 50 yards up from the ore bin or are they usually a lot farther up the mountain?

    • @cameronj234
      @cameronj234 Год назад

      Like is the portal that close to the ore bin? I saw a bunch of different colored dirt while you were filming the ore bin, is it really that close to it?

    Just stumbled on your channel I do like your videos, but I am a little concerned as far as your knowledge of climbing ladders and Stopes pleased to be careful. 👍

      Thank you! I’ve been exploring mines for 6 years now, over time you develop a sense of judgement for what should and shouldn’t be climbed without being tied in. My number one concern is safety for myself and my friends while underground. Thanks for tuning in! I hope you can stick around
