Little pieces like this are a valuable addition to the piano repertory I think because they give the beginning student a taste of contemporary music while still being simple enough to actually master. Bartok and Kabalevsky did this too and I know that they not only helped me in my piano studies but as simple models for me as a young composer. Bartok became my first "hero" and the Mikrokosmos became one of my models (along with the First Quartet). Also, this kind of piece is not easy to do. To express something that really reflects one's individual style and yet is playable by an amateur takes a lot of skill and self understanding. It's almost easier to hide in complexity. So I applaud Stoyanov for his effort.

Beautiful piece. That 3rd movement sounds so unique because of time signature :)

The first theme reminds Dvorak's Slavonic dance
