i never hated season 2, but i heard that even in the manga and light novel it was not a fan favorite, like, denftly is not as good as season 1 and season 3 that's for sure! but enjoyed all of them
isekai, most people who hate season 2 are the people who read the manga so they can compare it with the manga which makes the adaptation for season 2 look bad so if you didn't read the manga you just joined for the ride like everyone else

Nope the pacing was bad, they even changed some plot points. When the turtle arc happened it was more of a bridge to the next arc but in the anime it's just straight up boring, im just kinda glad season 3 was decent, and the animation stepped up a bit from season 2 @@skyzell5029
I dunno, it's quite hard to adapt a novel in general. While we have Monogatari, Haruhi, Mushoku Tensei and 86 we also have dozens of mid adaptations with tons of still frames, talking or cut content. But let's be honest, 99% light novels have generic writing. Shield Hero somewhere in the middle.
Everytime i rewatched Shield Hero S1, i can't help but cry, angry, and smile along Naofumi & Raphtalia's journey, with all what they've been going through... This was such a good show
She's definitely gonna cry a lot if she watches Season 1. The rollercoaster of emotions I felt watching that season is insane. From excitement, to anger, to sadness, and joy. I recommend the 1st season is she sees interest in the anime.
Most people who have a problem with season 2 read the manga first. So no real worries there, it's a pretty solid series as a whole if you don't go into it with a preconceived story trajectory.
Many who didn’t read manga can also clearly see the glaring issues with season 2. The pacing was off, cgi for crunch, off model characters.. etc. let’s stop acting like season 2 was not rushed, s3 is good but we need to be real here.
Gigachad wasn't even trying to get likes but that's his personality. He was genuine and honest but due to circumstances, he had it really tough and his companions who came to understand him, were all there for him.

My pfp might give it away but I love Raphtalia as a character (the main girl). She is just so wholesome. Second ending is my favorite, it's super beautiful and it makes me cry so hard. So does first ending.
Oh the ending 1, sooo criminally underrated. If it already made you cry without knowing the context of the song, you will cry twice as much by watching the 1st season. The song in the ed1 talks about how Raphtalia had lost the will to live when she was a slave, until Naofumi saved her and changed her life. Although Naofumi at first only saves her for his own interest to use her as a tool, over time he begins to love her as if she were his own daughter. The story was beautiful in the first season, what a shame that later the author had the stupid idea of making a romance emerge between them when CLEARLY Naofumi only loved her in a paternal way. They ruined a beautiful story of family ties to satisfy the sick ships of the community.

To answer your question on whether or not Naofumi is the ultimate gigachad, no because that title can only be held by the main character of ‘The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Loves You.’ He’s incredibly wholesome, loving, dedicated, loyal, would do anything for his girlfriends even break reality or work himself to the bone. As long as he makes his girlfriends know that he loves them and they are treasured then he doesn’t care about himself. Literally the whole fanbase when asked who they’d want to date from that series picks him 😂 It’s a great manga/anime. It’s a romcom that doesn’t take itself seriously most of the time but can when it wants to. Plus the romantic moments and friendship moments really hit when they want it to. All the characters are great. I know this comment doesn’t have much to do with Rising of the Shield Hero but hearing you ask that question made me think of this series 😂
Shield Hero is really solid! One of my favourite isekai anime. It has a nice blend of action, emotions, and humour that I think you would like Ali. If you do end up watching, I think you’re going to have a hard time choosing a favourite character between Raphtalia and Filo (AKA chicken girl lol). Would love to see you watch it!

Shield Bro was the first anime I'd seen that demanded that I check out the light novels. Ever since then, it has remained one of my absolute favorites. Same thing happened with Arifureta and How NOT to Summon A Demon Lord. The OPs for season one were slammin. They have stayed in my "Every Damn Day" playlist since 2020. The EDs are nothing to pass over, either any time I hear one of them start, I'm transported right back to feeling like I just watched an episode. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’m happy to see another Arifureta lover. I saw season 1 of it and checked out the light novels…and then was irritated at how much season 1 skipped or left out 😅 Plus the description of how much Hajime was suffering in the labyrinth before attempting to survive changed my perception of it in the anime.

He's a father figure to the brown haired girl. He views her as a daughter, not a romantic partner. Naofumi, the main character, actually has no interest in women romantically. Nor does he have any romantic interest in men.
I love this series, but I think it has trouble finding the right audience. I think a viewer needs a strong sense of empathy and an understanding that what a character says on screen doesn't necessarily reflect their actual thoughts, in order to get a lot of the subtext of what is going on. People lie to others and lie to themselves all the time. People put up walls because they are vulnerable. People push others away when they need them most. There are a lot of very human contradictions in this series that are sometimes difficult to navigate. But at its core, there is a real heart to this series, especially season 1. For anyone who is into character growth and a deconstruction of isekai tropes, it's well worth a watch.

I prefer situations like with Eminence in Shadow in which both Manga and Anime adaptation are worth checking out cuz theyr have lot of differences yet both are great. Though i wouldn't call Shield hero manga great compared to anime adaptation, and personally id say that anime 1st season was for me 9/10, 2nd was 5,5-6/10 and third was 7,5/10. Pretty much not bad.

Maybe its just my 18 years experience with anime (have seen a lot) that makes me go harsh on series that dropped quality noticeably when i was hoping for consistency or even possible improvements. Blue Lock is definitely another example of that.

Raphtalia revisiting her location of trauma and the crying scenes hit so hard. Loved the JP voice/acting.
