On Christmas evening 2023 my city was hit by what they called a major weather event 😂😂😂it was a hurricane or tornado. I live in Australia 🇦🇺 and where the winds landed, it took out power stations and communication towers. The winds were so loud and scary. It took weeks for power to be restored. There are homes still waiting to be repaired or rebuilt😢i hope your mums recovery goes well. Thank you for sharing how life likes to throws us challenges and how well we deal with it. Oh no! That’s terrible! I’m so sorry! Living without power in this day and time is just not a pleasant experience and these storms are getting scarier and scarier these days. It’s my philosophy that laugher, whether I’m laughing at my self or a ridiculous situation, is medicine. Life is hard enough and when you can’t find joy it’s even harder. Hi Cindy, the stools are a lovely idea, I can't wait to see them. That blanket you made is beautiful, I love it. I am not a fan of the beach either, to many creepy things that want to eat me in the ocean and I really don't like sand. Here in New Zealand being a couple of small islands the beach is all around and is a big feature in many peoples life style, I am often told how weird I am because I am not a fan of it. I have that book you made the whale from but haven't made anything from it yet. I think Carlos looks fantastic, his shiny back half got me, I am a bit of a magpie and love sparkly things. I have the all from jade book also but haven't used that either. I have been trying not to buy so much yarn and have ended up buying a lot of books instead. Glad you made it through the hurricane and that school goes back soon. Take care xx

So glad you finally have power! I drove 25 hours to visit my son in Houston three days before the hurricane. That child drug me all over Houston and I’ve never sweat so much!😅 I left with Beryl at my heels and was terrified that I’d get stuck somewhere in Texas with no AC! Right?!? It’s almost impossible to enjoy Houston in the summer. The humidity is off the chi-zang! Hey there, so glad you are back with another great and funny video. Laughed out loud several times. I agree with you 100% about the beach and the ocean. I don’t like sand in crevices either or not being able to see my feet. I also made the whale from that book. Totally agree about how weird it was to make the tail and then the head just to sew them together. But it is so cute. Can’t wait to see the finished foot stool.

@@therumimillcrochet Believe it or not the temps here have not been too bad. Staying under 100 is always a WIN! But we are on a total water restriction. We can no longer water outside. The exception is for live stock, but we don't have any of that. we can't even put water in a swimming pool. Don't have one of those either, thank goodness. I made the whale for the same reason, I thought it would be so easy. I was definitely thrown with the construction instructions. Take care, dear friends. Stay safe and cool, it's only going to get hotter. Yikes!!!

Hi Cindy, so glad you and the family are safe after the storm. Some of my family use to live in Huston Texas. My sister went to visit them and had an amazing time. This was back in the 80s. I was too young to go, and my parents couldn’t afford for us all to go, so my sister Deborah went all the way on her own when she was 12 years old. They live in Canada now, I was going to go and visit for my 40th birthday, but we moved house instead and use all our savings! Anyway thank you for the mention, I loved you make from the book. I found it strange how she puts the toys together, by making it in two parts. I love what you are doing with the flowers, can’t wait to see the end results. Take care ❤

Imma brand new subscriber here and I just gotta tell you if the rest of your videos are like this one, I'm gonna watch every one of them! You remind me of someone (in speech patterns and how you address certain things) and I just gotta say we can definitely be friends! I enjoy that sense of humor and appreciate the sentiments. I think your creations are adorable and if Carlos is self-conscious about the "obvious" join on his back rather than his tummy, then I say he needs a little (tiny) embroidered flower or something to help him with his confidence... or maybe a bow tie but that might be even weirder having it behind the hat but whatever. He's cute and I like him. My suggestion for the shawl is that it does not have to be 100% that super expensive yarn.I would say to pick out a coordinating nice, similar-feeling (maybe slightly bulkier yarn) to make a crocheted shawl with. Pick areas of the shawl to carry that yak yarn (I think that's what you said it was?) WITH the other yarn OR you can basically make an open lace with the expensive yarn that overlays the thicker yarn. OR give your friend back the yarn and pattern and just let her know that you're happy to crochet her something similar to the patterns she gave you, in a nice yarn but you're not comfortable using the expensive yarns because you don't think it's enough to do what she says she wants.

My daughter went to the beach not long ago and she said she was stomping through the water so the fish wouldn't touch her 😂 I would be scared to use that yarn too and I totally get what you're saying about non crocheters not understanding. I have been crocheting for around 9 years and my family still calls it knitting. I gave up a long time ago 😆 You might could get away with a very open lacy stitch to make it a bit bigger. I was all prepared for that freaking hurricane and the dam thing turned all we got was a splash of rain and a puff of wind. Prayers for all of Houston that electricity will be restored soon. Hurricanes ain't fun, that's for sure. I still gas up and buy bread and water when there is a depression in the Gulf. I am glad that y’all and your home made it through safely. I am excited to see your flower power stools! What a great idea! The beach blanket is beautiful!! I can't crochet a straight blanket to save my life. Oh, the Lil Dashounds…we had one when my kids were little; he thought he was a cow dog. 😆 It was funny seeing him run across the field trying to herd on his little sausage legs. Then, after being out all day, he would come in and poop under my daughter's bed. He was bad Balto. 😆
Balto sounds like Gus to a t. We used to live where deer used to see us daily and Gus spent all of his free time hearding them. I think it became a game to all of them, taunting the snausage dawg. 😂🤣 In His old age and new city dwellings he chases shadows and butterflies. I work for a bagpipe & drum band and live on the road full time. The band is from Tx originally so we've lived in a lot of places in the state,. I'm from Maryland and driving across TX is mind-blowing because of the sheer size. I'm with you - I'm not an oyster, I don't make pearls, I just get grumpy on the beach.

Wha??? You’re supposed to make a whole shawl with those? If the pattern you’ve chosen isn’t working out, maybe look at the Hitchhiker Shawl by Martina Behm. You only need to know the knit stitch, and it doesn’t use much yarn. Have you seen how they get the wool (qiviut) from the muskoxen? The person just sits next to one of these huge creatures and brushes it! It’s super cool.

Oh, girl! I've lived in North florida my whole life, and I know hurricanes! It was either 2004 or 2005 that TWO hurricanes came through my area back to back. We were in a more rural area along the st johns River and were out of power for around 4-5 weeks combined. Kids couldn't go to school because some roads were impassable, it was steamy, overcast weather and the mosquitoes were as thick as the air. Once our driveway was cleared the Walmart in our neighboring town became our salvation until power was restored to our area. Air conditioning, and the kids could check out the games in the electronics area😅
Oh bless your heart! I think Katrina and Ike hit us around that time. It was rough but I didn’t have kids back then. You are stronger than me. On the good side, if we are ever needing to go back to the days of Laura ingalls wilder, we have got it in the bag. We lose power and water and somehow still know things😂🤣😂. I’m glad you are fine after the hurricane. Here in Richmond we were lucky and didn’t lose power. I have two dachshunds, one eats dried worms she finds when I take her for a walk, the other one eats unidentified things from the grass, but I think it might be cotton tail rabbit’s droppings 🙄

I remember having our power out for 4 days, and my sister had a foster baby, so for her bath we had to heat up water on the BBQ and bath her on the kitchen table, my neighbour whose also a cousin has a pool if we needed to put soap on our bodies to cool off lol. Since I work in a retirement home they had power so I took the laundry there. We did have places to go for showers and to get buckets of water, because we run on a well, so to flush the toilet you have to flush with a bucket of water. I have tamagotchis you will have to look them up, to play with because they run on battery, thankfully I had my DS game system charged any other game system charged to play with, crocheting outside. Listened to battery operated radio. You can download games on the iPad that don’t require wifi like solitaire lol. We all made it out just fine

Hi Robyn! I do love doxies. I’ve always had them but I gotta say Gus is the most dauchshund, dauchshund I ever had. He has every bad trait of the breed. They are such characters and will protect you from any blade of grass that moves. 😂🤣 and we gag at a lot of what he does, I’m so sorry, I inflicted it on you. ❤️ I used stylecraft dk for my blanket. I buy it from lovecrafts.com. It’s the yarn that Lucy at. Attic 24 uses for most of her blankets. It’s super soft, not at all splitty and works up great. Plus, it’s a great price point. Hope that helps and good luck with your blanket, I really enjoyed making this one. ❤️

Oh yeah, living in coastal VA we know all about hurricanes. What people forget is that we get Nor`easters that are like tropical storms in the cooler months and can cause just as much damage. You have a friend in Va. Beach. I'm sure she knows about them.

People don't understand the quantities involved in any craft. It can take up to 7 yards of fabric for a quilt backing. Costing at least $12/yard, it adds up fast. That doesn't include the batting and the top. I've made people choke when they ask what it costs to make a quilt.
