I can't believe I was fortunate enough to have gotten to know Ronnie. Fantastic dude. As short as he was, I'm 5-11, I can never recall having to look down at him in conversation. BIG man in a little body. FANTASTIC! Wendy is pretty amazing, too.
The song after this, on the album, I call "Metal Blues". SAD!

I spent many hours as my 14 yr old self listening to this album on my record player back in '81. Heaven and Hell and this album, especially with Vinny on drums, inspired me to play drums, along with Neil Peart. The Appice brothers were my drum instructors and my biggest influences. I learned how to play drums and how to read drum tablature from Realistic Rock.

The first lines do seem to foreshadow Dio's exit from Sabbath: "I think about closing the door / and lately I think of it more / I'm living well out of my time / I feel like I'm losing my mind."

Love this song! Metal as hell!
I think this song is about the band breaking up. Dio felt like everything was falling apart and, lo and behold, they broke up a year later.

iommi seems to build the songs for the singer...there is a fundamental change to how iommi wrote the songs for ozzy, dio, and gillian...
    ozzy: grinding slow beats
    dio: power metal
gillian: deep purple-esque songs - more up tempo and rocking...

First album with Vinnie Appice on drums after the departure of Bill Ward, some big shoes to fill considering Bill had been w/Sabbath since their inception, Ronnie and Vinnie would make a few albums together w/Dio; Ronnie Dio and the Prophets was actually one of his early bands too, funny you mentioned that

Another great song on this album. Hard to determine meaning of this song. Is it only from his perspective or is he completely sane and he is witnessing the end of the world?

I think it’s poking fun at people predicting disasters or being paranoid about them… the title itself, falling off the edge of the world, is in reality a silly idea :)

    Love it! Great song.
I am not sure of the meaning, but I always took it as you could interpret it literally or a figurative view of someone going through a lot of turmoil in their life.

Yeah right, of the three albums with this line-up that's the weakest tbh! I presume you think Judas Priest was only good 'Painkiller'-onwards...

You have to look at it from a medevil time... DIO wrote a lot of his music with a renascence atmosphere and of course BLACK SABATH adding a touch of hell.... 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘Also theyre was a animated movie called HEAVY METAL which is based off the magazine of animated cartoon stories in which this album was featured in that movie....

Hey Metal Junkie, it's Dio's lyrics, it always makes you think. It was his goal. Who is insane, you or another people?.. Sometimes everybody asks this question in his mind.

Dios words had a religious bakground. The first line,"I think about closing the door"....is a saying that preachers talk about, when Jesus knock on your hearts door, don't close it. Many of his songs are referencing religion. But if you never went to church then you might not be able to completely understand his message
