"Baba O'Riley," released in 1971 by The Who, is one of the band's most iconic songs and a staple of classic rock. Written by Pete Townshend, the track is renowned for its distinctive synthesizer intro, which was among the first of its kind in rock music and remains influential. The song is often mistakenly referred to as "Teenage Wasteland" due to its memorable lyric, but the official title, "Baba O'Riley," pays homage to Townshend's spiritual influences-Meher Baba and Terry Riley, the latter being an experimental composer whose minimalist techniques inspired the song's structure. The lyrics reflect themes of disillusionment and youthful rebellion, set against a backdrop of soaring melodies and driving rhythms. The song has been praised for its innovative production and continues to be a powerful anthem in popular culture. - Видеоклипы
You will get a speeding ticket listening to this while driving at night on an open highway
And a reckless driving if you do the windmill along with Pete on this
@@jimmoore8951 Was that you that honked when I sped by??? I was listening to "My Generation"!!!🤣🤣
The WHO are MONSTERS of classic rock- rank up with The Beatles, Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. have sold more than 100 Million albums. Their drummer was Keith Moon (RIP) who is considered on the same caliber as Neil Peart of Rush and Bonham of Led Zeppelin. Moon was friends with Joe Walsh of the Eagles and comedian Belushi. and passed away from VERY SEVERE alcohol use- he would drink a whole BOTTLE of hard liquor a night and trash hotel rooms...Joe Walsh said HE WAS scared they would all die each time they went out partying- and sadly Moon and Belushi did pass away and Joe Walsh has been sober for years
Who made this awkwardly organised video??
Better to listen to it with a blank album cover
I was at a concert at Boston garden when Keith Moon collapsed on stage, right through his set. They rescheduled the concert.
Ketih Moon was the archetype for The Muppet's Animal
Beatles are on the top shelf… Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin on second tier. Everyone else is below.
The "Who's Next" album is one of the best of all time. It always makes me smile when I hear Keith Moon going off!!
When people ask, "Beatles or Stones?" I always say, "Duh, The Who." 😄
Me too
You’ll love “Won’t Get Fooled Again!” A classic banger!
Here’s some more Who songs you should listen to:
Who are you?
Won’t get fooled again
My generation
Love, Reign o’er me
Try Slip Kid and Young Man Blues, too!
Don’t forget
Behind Blue Eyes.
Looks like I’ll be spending the afternoon going through some Who!! lol
Why I love reaction videos. Seeing and hearing people get introduced to the greats and reminded why I got into them.
Add "The Real Me" to that list to get a taste of the difference a great bassist can make to a song.
In that order! 👍
Yes!
Pete Townshend the guitarist developed the Marshall Amp with feed back and overdrive now used in rock, Jimmy Hendrix used to watch the who and Pete play guitar live , before he was famous.
Yes and when Jimmi famously set fire to his guitar. He was doing Pete’s act before The Who played. Townsend would destroy his guitar at end of shows.
The CSI franchise used songs by The Who for all three incarnations -- "Who Are You" for the original CSI (Vegas); "You Won't Get Fooled Again" for CSI: New York, and "Baba O'Reilly" for CSI: Miami. 🙂Brought them a whole new audience, and was what got me into watching the shows. Win-win all around, as far as I was concerned.
"You Won't Get Fooled Again" was used for CSI: Miami and "Baba O'Reilly" was used for CSI: NY.
@@edford1693 Ack. I always get those two mixed up. 😬🙄😅

Just think of when they say "...meet the new boss..." and they show Horatio's face.
The Who Composed And Put Tovether One Of The Greatest Rock Operas Of All Time Titled "TOMMY " A Must WATCH For Your Journey...Thanks Gentlemen
The Who is among the iconic rock and roll legends.
they belong in same conversation as Zeppelin, Beatles, Stones.
They performed at the Super Bowl Halftime about 15 years ago. This song was the lead-in opening credits song of one of the CSI versions.
In fact all three CSI shows (Miami, Vegas, New York) were all The Who songs at the opening.
What the video montage shows is the context of the song. These things had happened by 1969 in the U.S. - Both John and Bobby Kennedy had been killed, MLK had been killed, the war in Vietnam was still going on, there were major protests, then there was Woodstock in 1969. There were major protests across the U.S. and young people were rebelling. In Great Britain, The Troubles had begun with conflict in Ireland. England militarily occupied parts of Ireland. People were dying, even children, at the hands of the military in Ireland. This is most definitely a song of rebellion. The middle 1960’s and on were times of much conflict between generations, between religions, etc. I love this song. I remember these times.
Absolutely! Thanks.
1971 was the greatest year of Rock music. Amazing amount of masterpieces.
Agree
A really great band. They were particularly good live. Just really unique and individual, and just about the most energetic stage performers of any rock band ever.
The quintessential rock band living the rock lifestyle, known just as much for trashing their instruments at the end of their concerts and trashing hotel rooms, as they were for their music. Like Led Zeppelin, held together by a thunderous drummer - Keith Moon. Their rock opera (rockpera) Tommy starred Tina Turner as the Acid Queen and, famously, Elton John singing Pinball Wizard. A great band with a huge catalogue of classic rock music.
Don't forget they were also known to be the loudest live band...
Back in the days we closed our eyes and listen to the music and made our own pictures in our mind.
For me it feels like i'm missing half of the song when I watch the home made video by some fan.
Definitely can see you point! We grew up on MTV so music and visuals went hand in hand. Respect!!
I find fan-made videos usually take away from the experience. Videos made by the band are sometimes better, but as a Gen X-er who saw the birth of video, I think the music is better evaluated or experienced when listened to on its own. @@thisisitreactions
In the day, I could not stop playing this album over and over.
The Who are known for their live performance. Look for a concert performance next time you check out this classic band
Making my Saturday Morning come to life! Thank you all ❤
Our pleasure!
Top 2 Recommendations: Who Are You (promo version) and Won't Get Fooled Again (Shepperton studios 1978 version)
The Who are highly underrated in my opinion
I wouldn't go that far. They're pretty huge in UK. Not sure if they're Knighted but very possibly. Still yeah they were a monster band
Underrated by who? They’re on every top ten list of rock bands in the universe.
I’m a huge, lifelong Who fan. They are a consensus top 5 rock band. This reaction probably underrates it.
Pete Townsend is one of the all time great rock music writers. The band is elite and Rogers vocals are a blessing from God! You guys do need to see Live performances to understand their place in Rock History. Not only fabulous composition, but the first and best at what they did on stage!! Enjoy!!
The favourite rock band of my youth, genuinely rooted in the working class, with three outstanding musicians ( Daltrey, Entwistle, Moon) and a genuine genius of a composer in Pete Townshend. Well worth exploring Tommy ( the original rock opera), Quadrophenia and Who's Next. Terrific stuff.
In the story, Teenage Wasteland was going to be like a warzone No Man's Land. People were going to attempt to cross it. The "rock opera" was never finished, and it ended up on Who's Next album. Along with another of the songs Won't Get Fooled Again. The story was a futuristic dystopian society. THIS IS IT should react to Quadraphenia's Love Reign O'er Me.;
Love Reign O'er Me, absolutely...
I’m 63 years old and grew up on classic rock. I’m a. huge fan of The Who and I’ve seen them in concert six times over the past 50 years. Although I’ve been able to enjoy this music for decades I gotta tell ya, I’ma little jealous when you guys get to hear it for the first time as I’ll never experience that feeling again.
those synth arpeggios for the intro was innovative, nobody had heard anything like that. Nowadays, those synth sounds are common place---like video games sound effects! Pete Townshend was just super creative in the early days of synth work
That synth work was one of his trademarks. Three seconds in, and I'd be, "That's the Who."
The WHO, to me, are the original power rock band. The Beatles were innovating and instrumentalizing, the Stones were expanding Blues into Rock ‘n Roll, while The Who was creating a wall of sound! Keith Moon mostly played lead drum, Eintwistle was a bass extraordinaire creating harmonics, Townshend, a musical genius, played power guitar chords and wrote the music, while Daltrey’s pitch perfect voice belied his working class words.
So much of the music that followed had its roots in The Who’s music; metal, punk, garage rock, grunge.
The complexity of the chord progression and how the arpeggiator system was used on the still very new Lowrey organ (1968) was very innovative for its’ time. So much so, that Pete generally chose to not recreate it for live shows.
If you want to know what The Who is about, watch their live performance of Won't Get Fooled Again from 1978 at Shepperton Studios. This is arguably the greatest live rock performance of all time! You'll see four genuine rock stars absolutely killing it! This will answer all your questions about The Who. Then go watch their performance at Woodstock and their appearance on the Smothers Brothers Show doing My Generation. Then watch them perform Young Man Blues live. Then listen to Love Reign O'er Me and Behind Blue Eyes and Who Are You, and then go from there.
Live version of “Won’t get fooled again “ recorded at Shepperton Studios is amazing
The title refers to 2 of songwriter Pete Townsend's influences : Indian guru Meher Baba, and minimalist composer pioneer and keyboard player Terry Riley. Townsend came up with the term "teenage wasteland" after seeing the number of stoned people at Woodstock.
I'm soooo happy that Corey was found frozen, but still alive, in that glacier many decades ago and that he has been able to catch up on so much music and culture that he had "NO IDEA" even existed. ;)~ Meanwhile Phenom and Olli: Oh yeah, we've heard this in a million places before.
Won't Get Fooled Again - Shepperton Studios 1978!!! Their live performance is AMAZING!!!! I never saw them, but their concerts were LOUD AF!!!
This is from the album "Who's Next" and is one of the greatest albums of all time! Listen to the whole album.
You must do Who Are you the demo video in the studio, it won’t disappoint!!
Love the WHO

One of the best WHO live performances !!

Introducing East Indian music into Rock an Roll, genius. This entire is great.😊
I really got into The Who around 1967 when I was 11 years old, and the first song by them I heard on the radio was 'My Generation.' Their song 'Baba O'Riley' is the first cut from their 1971 album 'Who's Next'. I was 15 when it was released. I did see The Who in concert in 1980 at the Los Angeles Sports Arena in Los Angeles, CA. Unfortunately drummer Keith Moon was no longer with The Who when I saw them in 1980 due to the fact he passed away in 1978 from overdosing on his medication to combat his alcoholism. Please do a reaction of their classic song 'Won't Get Fooled Again' of their 1978 live performance. That song is the last cut from their 1971 album 'Who's Next.' Keith Moon passed away shortly after that live performance.
Zak Richard Starkey (born 13 September 1965) is an English rock drummer who has performed and recorded with the Who since 1996. Starkey is the son of the Beatles' drummer Ringo Starr and Maureen Starkey.
The repeating set of notes (ostinato) in "Baba O'Riley" that opens and underlies the song was derived from the Lifehouse concept, where Townshend wanted to input the vital signs and personality of Meher Baba into a synthesiser, which would then generate music based on that data.
The Who is in it's own category ❤ Thanks for this, however there are many awesome Who songs 🎵
You're welcome! We are ready to jump into more songs from them!
Watch A Quick One from The Rolling Stones rock and roll circus. You’ll be blown away.
What a great era for rock music it was.,'71' for me stands out particularly many great albums came out that year, legendary albums.
Another awesome reaction video and from you guys!
Thank you so much 🤗
I saw The Who twice in the 1980s. My older sis loved them but I didn't until I saw them. Such energy and talent. ❤
The most powerful live act I ever saw - absolutely phenomenal.
This is a song that really stood out live at 100,000 watts. Those chords really hit you.
As long as I’ve been watching y’all, I can’t believe you haven’t gone down to who rabbit Trail by now! Of the best groups ever enjoy! “ won’t get fooled again “ next please!
A lot of bands to get familiar with! We are trying to catch up lol!
Pearl Jam have been covering this song for years at their shows. Should check it out they do not disappoint
Wow I did not know that
@@jimmoore8951 Pete Townsend was a mentor for Pearl Jam. Encouraging them in their development
This song always gives me a postapocalyptic vibe. That last part, I see a group of young people around a fire. One of them pulls out a violin and they all dance crazy around the fire, back to handmade music because everything technological is gone in the war, and they're celebrating the fact that they survived. (The showrunner for CSI is a huge Who fan, so riffs from their songs are constantly showing up in the show.)
This was a teenage rebellion song! And I heard it in the late 70s when I was a teenager. And then I, as a teenager, felt it. I was 13!
Please check out WON’T GET FOOLED AGAIN live at Shepperton Studios by The Who. They are one of the very best rock bands.
This some was an anthem of disaffected youth. A wild build up and release of our trying to throw off the yoke cultural repression and governmental violence . Just a great Rock song with groundbreaking instrumental
A top 5 rock song of any and all time. I don't think many would disagree. Check it out live. The Who is crazy talented.
that's not not their video. Yeah all CSI shows use many different Who songs as their intro
Best rock & roll band ever. You really need to see a live performance. Won’t Get Fooled Again at Shepperton Studios is legendary. Pete Townsend was an innovator genius who developed quadrophonic sound and synthesizers effective use in music.
Won't get fooled again is fantastic. Up there with Joe Cocker and I get by with a little help from my friends.
I think you all will be surprised at how many Who songs you will recognize
I have loved this song for all of my life, but never did it make me want to run through a wall more than when I was at UFC 75 in London, and they played it over a highlight package. On the big screens in the 02 Arena. So energising.
The video of UK news footage from 1971 is a bit distracting as it is really a timeless song that is not anchored in any particular year. Who's Next will always be in my top 10 LP's.
I have a very visceral reminder of the Who from 1968, they were appearing at the Phoenix Municipal Stadium and I got caught up in a crowd that tried tocrash the gate. I ended up getting clubbed, sprayed with Mace and was face down in the dirt getting handcuffed with two Phoenix cops on my back. I was eventually let go several hours later with no charges.............fun times.
It’s really crazy I’m listening to this song today on the anniversary of 9/11 they played this song at the concert for NYC and blew everyone away! It was so good! Anyway thanks for the great but sad memory!❤ god bless America 🇺🇸
This album, Who's Next, starts with this song and just kind of gets better with each track.
Who’s Next are songs written for an unfinished Opera by Pete Townsend. The band had no idea what Pete was on about but liked the songs. Teenage Wasteland refers to the wasted potential of teenagers & young people. Not being high
Thanks guys for the reaction. Next start at the beginning with "Can't Explain", "My Generation", then onto "Magic Bus", and ""Pinball Wizard". and "Won't get Fooled Again"
A lot of the songs from this era don't have an "official video". Someone put this together well after the song was released. I suggest finding a video of them performing this live on stage. There are a few good ones out there.
The Who was a force of nature live in concert. You should try Won't Get Fooled Again (1978, Shepperton Studios). Besides a mind-blowing performance, make sure you have the lyrics pulled up when you watch. Very meaningful, powerful message
Fan videos are generally distracting to the song. This is nothing but a pastiche of images somebody thought were idealogically adjactent to message of the song. I hate to be that guy, but the original videos were created in the heads of everyday stoners like myself would would listen and only have album art and the occassional lyric sheet to glean messages from. And, if you listen closely to "Tommy" - Pete Townsend hated the "Sixties" peace and love movement as just another hustle to brainwash kids - kind of like how Tommy eventually becomes the leader of his own cult once he "sees the light."
It's a great pastiche, but, just NOT right for the song... the texture of edits and images were completely incongruous. Wish they saw a static picture of the album cover instead.
Originally created in the heads of non-stoners too
Better than looking at an album cover during the whole song. Also, Pete Townsend is a lover of kiddy p*rn, who escaped jail because of celebrity status. So who cares what he thinks?
Two great albums available on CD are " Who's Next" and "Meaty, Beaty, Big & Bouncy" the latter being their earlier hits.
I've seen them play this live 4x. I was also fortunate enough to have seen the original line-up in 1975.
The Who are renowned for their live shows. Try "Young Man Blues" at The Isle of Wight, 1970 or "Won't Get Fooled Again" at Shepperton studios, 1978.
Such a freaking banger. Behind blue eyes and we won't get fooled again are great too. Great reaction guys and Peace out ✌️ ☮️ 🙏
I remember having listened to this for years and finally realizing "Tenage Wasteland" I know this !
Who Are You is a must! Great reaction!
Net Won't Get Fooled Again - Live from Shepperton Studio
I’ve heard this song a million times and still have little idea what it’s about. Great tune regardless. Never seen the video before but it doesn’t add much to the meaning, except that it seems to be clips from around the time the song came out.
Pete Townsend still cooking in his 80’s
A little Easter European wedding music at he end.
"Young Man Blues".
More Who.
I saw them in Seattle Wa summer of 1982 just before I joined the Navy and was gone for 7 years.
New to your channel and I appreciate your reactions. Teaches me to appreciate this music I already like, but from a fresh perspective, focusing on features of the song I missed or under'appreciated until your takes.
This was 1971.There was no video accompanying this track.
I've never been a huge Who fan like some folks, but they do have some excellent songs that are definitely rock and roll classics. Check out some more of their music. Worth a listen for sure.
The video is not from The Who to my knowledge. There is a live version that is fire. If you ever want to hear it again.
You should do the live song from 1978 at Shepperton
I like the line Let's get together before we get much older! It non only can mean get together as a couple. But also get together as people, in a loving spirit like at Woodstock and Monterey Pop Fest. Similar with Get Together by Youngbloods and also We Can Be Together by Jefferson Airplane. Nothing wrong with love. As they used to say, make love not war

3 things:
1. Paul Simon - “Boy in the Bubble” off his Graceland album. The whole album is fire and is 100% in the classics vein you’re perusing right now. And yeah it’s a great headphone track!
2. Once y’all decide to jump on something a little different, with a huge following, check out Bad Religion. Their breakout album is Suffer. It’s California punk. You may call it skater punk. To 10 most influential punk albums of all time and one of the most accessible to people who don’t listen to punk. Also it’s perfect for tic tok brain!
3. Have you done any Doors yet? “Riders On The Storm” is required listening.
Other great Who songs include, Won't Get Fooled Again, Love Reign O'er Me and Eminence Front
One of the greatest songs ever!
I saw The Who in concert three times. They are my favorite live band. Suggest song “Won’t Get Fooled Again” and “Young Man Blues”.
So much better without a video.
I could tell you guys were mesmerized by the video.
The bass in this song is slappin. Check out the live version of Won’t Get Fooled Again or Love Reign O’er Me.
Just saw them in the last year. Still amazing!😍
Who's Next. One of the benchmark albums of the '70,s. Top five in history for me. Love "My Wife". Great song. We all have the lumps to show for that one, lol.
Picked the wrong video
Yep.
Wrong video
Great reaction guys. Now you MUST do Won't Get Fooled Again!
The Who have very long list of great songs. They were a pretty aggressive band for their time. I once heard that if you were going out with your girl you listened to Led Zeppelin and if you were going out with the boys to look for trouble you listened to The Who.
Top, top band!! As newcomers I totally recommend you listen to 'won't get fooled again' for the next vid... having seen your reactions to similar epic/longer rock songs this would be a great choice for you!! I look forward to seeing this... Keep up the great work!!!
One of the precursors of punk!
Not sure what this video has to do with the song. The song title refers to two of Townshend's major inspirations at the time: Indian spiritual master Meher Baba and American minimalist composer Terry Riley. According to Townshend, at the end of the band's gig at the 1969 Isle of Wight Festival, the field was covered in rubbish left by fans, which inspired the line "teenage wasteland". In another interview, Townshend said the song was also inspired by "the absolute desolation of teenagers at Woodstock, where audience members were strung out on acid and 20 people had brain damage.
I think the more you hear from them, the more you will like their music. Legendary! Part of the soundtrack of my life. I was 20 years old in 1971. I guess maybe you had to be there. Different times, yet many things haven’t changed. Try Won’t Get Fooled Again. I always enjoy your reactions! Thanks! ☮️💙😎
Great band. You want to see this one. The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again (Shepperton Studios / 1978)
The yr 1971 is considered the greatest yr of releases in Contemporary Rock History. You could spend time here and never get bored…… 👈✨
"Teenage wasteland" refers to the crowd at Woodstock.
This is my favorite Who song. I loved listening to the Who in my teens. It just had a great power energy and drive that spoke to me. Those drums and bass lines go right through you!
For your next foray into The Who, you can't do any better than "Won't Get Fooled Again." After that, I'd hit up "Love Reign O'er Me" to hear one of the great vocal performances in rock history.
