Wicked mate :) love the tips for setup. As a sidenote, you can turn your gentilin off and drain the air from triggering your gun on much quicker and quieter, and air dries your gun passages :) obviously you still wanna drain the water.

Thank you buddy.. the flow remains the same across all materials, it’s the viscosity and setup (fluid pressure) that changes accordingly.. it’s easier not to measure the flow, I demonstrated that to give the technical data behind what you’re wanting to achieve..you can just visualise using the arc method and look for a 6 inch arc in the stream as you pull the trigger over a paint can (no atomising air).. general rule is the pot pressure (fluid flow), will be less than the atomising air.. of the fluid pressure is higher, you could run the risk the fluid back flushing up the gun because there’s not enough air to atomise.. not a disaster, just a bit messy and a need to clean up the gun.. also, remember to have the fluid control of the gun relatively open, otherwise there won’t be enough flow to measure.. then you can throttle the fluid at the gun when spraying a narrow fan, or a lighter coat.. hope this helps my friend.. regards Pete

I think its is the air where I am lacking as I cant get the right atomisation even when I decrease the flow or increase air. Whatever I do there is no change in atomisation always the same result. Ah I will keep playing, it must be me thats missing something 😳
Nice vid! I just ordered iwatas 2l kit, main use is for contact glue (spray ready) now im looking for a small compressor for it. Small as possible. In general, does pressure pot require less air flow then regular? Im only going to spray short and quickly, like 2 second bursts, do you think i still need a normal sized one like if i was painting regular paint? I have 2 regular iwatas that work fine to paint like moped parts and a regular cheap 25 liters 1,5 hp compressor. But for this im looking for some smaller, if i can 😁 otherwise i have to run with a regular one.
Ah very nice my friend 👌 ..to pressure the pot takes very little air, a compressor that can pump up tires would actually pressurise a remote pot.. however, it’s the air cap that needs a compressor with suitable CFM - my understanding of the ‘maths’ behind compressors is very little, I always run it by my friends at SpraymanUK 😄 ..like you I’ve always fancied a small / portable compressor - I’ve looked at the DeWALT 54v Flexvolt battery powered compressor, but I’m told it wouldn’t power my requirements 😞 ..Your needs / how you spray could work, but I’m sorry I couldn’t give you a definitive answer.. please let me know how you get on though, it’s very interesting what you’re looking to achieve 👍 regards Pete
Hey! Nice Video! May I ask for advice: I paint 2.000 door frames yearly. At the moment I´m using a GRACO FinishPro 9.5 with a pressure Pot. What is the difference between using just a compressor (like you're doing) instead of an "HVLP-Machine" like the FinishPro?
Hello my friend.. thank you for watching.. that’s a very good question.. In short, HVLP (turbine, as you have) and HVLP airspray (compressor, like my video).. is pretty much the same, it’s just the way the air is generated that’s different, turbine Vs compressor.. each had advantages, the turbine is very portable, but the airline is thicker and can get hot.. whereas the compressor can have a smaller, perhaps longer airline, so the compressor could be on another floor or another room.. now with a pressure pot, there’s some advantage to having a compressor or a small compressor alongside the turbine.. is your 9.5 the ProContractor or ProComp ?.. if ProComp then you have in my opinion the best turbine setup.. because the compressor is able to deliver dedicated air to the compressor, rather than a ‘passive’ setup where some air is ‘diverted’.. basically you could deliver a more thicker paint to the gun for atomisation.. depending on what material (viscosity) you’re spraying it could be a minor point.. like I say, if the material is being atomised at the gun, compressor / turbine / turbine with additional compressor / the finished result will be the same.. hope this helps 😆 ..the amount of frames you’re spraying, airless or even air assisted airless could be an investment to increase production speed and with AAA improve transfer efficiency, so reducing material waste.. just an idea.. keep in touch.. regards Pete

Hey Lauro, always a pleasure to hear from you my friend.. My main reason for going down the route of a compressor (and HVLP), was to also go Air Assisted Airless.. (and also spray uPVC using HVLP / Pressure Pot 👍)..
You’re most definitely more experienced at cabinet refinishing than me, and the popularity in the US versus that of in the UK is inspiring.. my impression is airless (like yourself) is possibly a more popular choice in the US.. the advancement of FF tips has been a game changer.. my opinion is AAA is going to gain more popularity, so my path would be to go down the compressor / HVLP route, still run straight airless and look to add AAA in future.. I myself have still got a lot to learn with AAA, but I’m enjoying the journey 😆 ..take care my friend.. regards Pete

Thank you Niall, that’s very kind of buddy.. With fine finish airless spray tips, you get an excellent finish, but HVLP just wins.. close though.. the advantage of HVLP, is a huge amount of control, allowing you to move slower.. especially beneficial if you’re wanting to complete intricate work 👍

Yeah it don’t take long, but airless setup / cleanup isn’t too slow once you get the hang of it.. I guess you could say it’s “horses for courses” ..with airless, for me a hopper kit spends up the cleaning process 👍

Hey mate any idea why my pressure pot would be losing fluid flow without any pressure drop? It just slowly drops off, I'm spraying water based enamel no leaks no blocks it's a brand new unit. Cheers
Hello my friend, happy to help if I can - is it a regulated pot, like in the video?.. sounds like it is - so in this case the dedicated air to the gun / air cap will always be unaffected- the regulated air to the pot is what keeps the fluid flowing to the gun (it doesn’t require much from the compressor) - it sounds like there’s a leak in air / perhaps a seal.. such as the the pressure release valve not tightened enough / or a seal failing - you could try a petroleum jelly on the seals (not a silicone based product)

Say if you had to thin the paint would you still pour it back into the paint tin or would you put it in a separate pot
Hey Adzy, this is a very good question my friend.. in short, I would return to a separate pot, if the pot life of the material allows for storing and using again at a later date.. on this note, I don’t typically thin trim / woodwork materials, with a compressor and regulated pressure pot, I can normally spray without much coaxing.. if it’s a decorative (thicker) material, I’d most likely choose airless, if I don’t think it will go through HVLP.. when spraying emulsions through airless, I may add a splash of water just to ease the flow and in this case I’ll return to the can.. then I’d remember it’s pretty much ready to spray straight out the can next time.. hope this makes sense.. great question.. regards Pete
Can you use 2pack in these pressure pot systems, does the pressure in the pot increase the pot life of the 2 pack ?
Hi Greg, great question my friend.. yes, I can confirm 2K waterborne or 2K solvent would be very suitable in a pressure pot setup 👍 ..As for increasing pot life, I couldn’t confirm that, but I will do my best to get an answer on that for you 😆 ..regards Pete
Just watch the 👍 Q. I take it that if I’m using a solvent or white spirit based paint then Is the water used? Or the appropriate fluid used ie solvent or white spirit?
Would a 6 or 8 gallon air compressor run this pot intermittently?
Hey William.. my Gentilin CSK240/24 is a 24 litre tank, which I believe is just under 6.5 US Gallons.. double check with your suppliers, but I’d think a 6 gallon would keep the pot pressure regulated.. I brought the Gentilin for its CFM rating and for me to one day step into Air Assisted Airless.. thanks for your question my friend, it’s great getting your input on the channel.. what forms of spraying are you doing at the moment, or is it something you’re looking at getting into.. regards Pete
@@PaintHQ Thanks for the nice reply. I am now subbed to your channel. Many commenters on RUclips indicate that a pancake or small compressor can't be used for paint spray. That myth has been debunked. Granted, one may need to stop on occasion to let the compressor motor cool down. I have deck rails and pickets to paint and it's a lot of trouble to paint with a brush. I was attracted to the pot because one only has the weight of the sprayer. For electric sprayers, it would seem okay for smaller jobs but I imagine those things get heavy with prolonged use (weight of sprayer, paint cup, and motor) plus having to refill those smaller paint cups often. I also wanted to be able to paint walls and ceilings without having to refill paint often. I can get 6 gallon compressors in my area for around 100 bucks (2.6 CFM @ 90PSI).What is the CFM rating on your compressor?

I appreciate the sub 👌👏👍😆 ..The air delivery of my compressor is 5 bar, 150 L / Min.. 5.3 CFM 👍 ..Just thought, you mention potentially spraying walls / ceilings.. would a small airless be more versatile? Or is the outside woodwork very intricate?.. you can get a huge amount of control out of an airless sprayer with the right setup.. fine finish low pressure tip, small fan width etc 😆 ..Graco do a really nice small pump with a hopper (it’s a GXFF in the UK) I believe a FinishPro GX19 in the US.. designed for spraying small quantities of material, but equally you can fill the hopper and spray interior walls / ceiling 👍

Thanks Pete! I’ve just started out using a Graco GX21 to spray some of my internal doors and architrave. Ended up applying too much in a few places (paint runs) using a 208 tip, swapped to a 310 and it went on better. Got myself a 410 tip which I think will make it less likely to apply it thick as the same amount of paint will be distributed over a wider area. Not tried it yet!
Also got a QTech3 HVLP, only used it for priming (BIN) - I don’t think it will be up to the job for thicker paints. I probably should have got a 5 stage!

You’re very welcome Sam.. your spot on with your thoughts on tip selection.. people new to airless spraying can’t comprehend how quick the material comes out and how quick you would need to move.. Credit to you you’re learning fast, don’t be harsh on yourself, door frames / architrave (in the corners) are the most problematic.. those areas naturally get hit multiple tips.. trick is to speed up in those areas and feather off.. you’ve got some great kit, well done 👍 I have a video planned, explaining paint viscosity, manufacturer (low viscosity) Vs decorative (higher viscosity) coatings.. demonstrating some of the materials I like to spray it might be helpful to you 😆 keep in touch my friend, more than happy to help you on your journey.. regards Pete

I’m using Bedec Advanced undercoat and topcoat satin, I think it leaves a cracking finish. I tried diluting about 5-10% with water, which worked well. I got a bottle of OWatrol Floetrol which I’m going to try out next time with the 410 tip.

Ah you’re welcome.. appreciate your kindness subscribing 💯 ..I’ve heard good things about the Bedec system, it should go through your 310 / 410 tips without any easing with water (or Floetrol).. I’ll look into it some more for you.. Floetrol really is excellent though, worth having in your kit.. I typically use Floetrol in conjunction with HVLP (or XVLP).. I first warm the paint a little, just by using hot water, and submerging the tin or material in the cup.. this will lower the viscosity.. then I add Floetrol if the material still needs easing.. adding water (for HVLP) is kind of my last resort.. with airless I very rarely add water (certainly to trim paints).. choice of tip should be sufficient.. you do see me in my videos adding a drop of water to AR2 ceiling paint, really helps get the pressure lower 👍 .Keep in touch my friend, happy to help anytime.. regards Pete

Hey Gareth.. That’s a very good question.. in the video I’m using a gun lubricant that came with my Wagner XVLP.. Not just any oil can be used for a gun lubricant. Many oils contain silicone, which will contaminate paint jobs.. Petroleum jelly / Vaseline could possibly be used because it’s petroleum based, not silicone.. I am going to check that for you though 👍 ..I’ll get back to you 🙏

Hi i have compressors i want to use it for paint emulsion paint on wall and ceiling what kind of air gun should i buy .if you could give me advice please
Happy to help advise you buddy.. unfortunately an air spray setup (air compressor / conventional spray gun) would not be practical fo spray emulsions onto walls or ceiling.. the amount of thinning required to get a viscosity that’s able to spray would be impractical.. then if it did spray, it would be a slow process ..My advise would be to look at investing in an airless paint sprayer.. hope this helps my friend, keep in touch.. regards Pete
