  • What does the ‘school of the future’ look like? How can the design of a school promote social interaction and create a conducive environment children with and without special needs? We visit Kalasatama Comprehensive School, which has desk-less classrooms, bouncy chairs and beanbags to provide a personalised learning experience for children.
The Lien Foundation took two Singapore educators - Dr Jacqueline Chung, Academic Director at St James’ Church Kindergarten and Ms Tan Sze Wee, Executive Director at Rainbow Centre which runs three special education schools - to find out what Singapore can learn from them.

Very important this group is taking ADHD seriously. I was a forgotten kid in America, failed completely out of school because I was not diagnosed with ADHD yet have all of the traits (inattentive type) and now struggling trying to get evaluated as an adult because they say "you should have gotten diagnosed as a kid" yes, obviously I should have, but I wasn't. Instead I was emotionally and verbally abused.

Its so important to teach children with special needs that they can achieve there were so many misconceptions when I was growing up where other kids would think it meant they weren't as equipped academically. This just isn't true they're just as capable they just process things a bit differently. Creating an environment thats inclusive is so important. X

It's funny because na adapt na natin yung "k12" which is galing sa kanila pero ang nakapagtataka ganun parin yung systema nang edukasyon. Tapos sasabihin "Kabataan ay pag-asa nang bayan" . The main thing in elementary school system in Finland is that we allow children to be children. We allow them to be kids the little amount of life it is. For a kids that young you can't put them in under pressure of achieving better than others. That comes later in life if one wishes so. The mentality that life is worth living just because you are in good work position is not life worth of living.

I so love the concept of a structured unstructured classroom where expressions of diverse learning styles can be done. I wonder how many teachers tend the ward of learners, who starts what, how teachers plan the activities, what roles do teachers play, when and where they do formal and informal teaching, when do they assess learning, the number of learners in a classroom and many other concerns. Learning must be fun. Learning must be safe as the space for them is safe and free. What other provisions do schools give to make this kind of learning environment happen? This may be applicable to both the regular and special classes. For all the schools and classrooms in the Philippines structured formally with furniture and fixtures arranged properly, the shift can provide discomfort to teachers who are not trained for co-teaching or team teaching. But this learning environment may be worth a try.

    • @celedoniobalderasjr.8543
      @celedoniobalderasjr.8543 2 года назад +1

It is also evident the kind of socialization between and among regular learners and those with special needs. The concept of inclusion must be practiced in and off school, that learning takes place everywhere. That there is no standard classroom, class size, for learning cannot be contained into a certain space. All available spaces becomes functional learning environment. So learning is not limited by regularly coming to school. At home, especially during the pandemic and ensuing disasters and calamities, the homes become learning spaces. We know of learners climbing tall trees and staying on rooftops to get internet signals and study there for a period of time. Others, find solace learning under a street light undistracted by the rushing vehicles. These are certainly unsafe places for learning.

      Dear Parents,
Nothing worth fighting for if it wasn't for your Kids. Give your child a BRIGHT future by teaching him/her to read in early age in a very efficient scientific way using one of those guaranteed exclusive reading programs because Kids Channels on RUclips since 2007 are only presenting sight words. You won't loose anything. Check out those typical instructions and don't forget to share with your loved ones:

The schoolsystem as it is caused that i have no diploma's at all. I don't fit in schoolsystems. I struggled 27 years wondering why i am not normall...last year i got diagnoses with adhd, high gifted( intelligent) and diagnosed with dyscalculie at 16... Problematic cause every exam of higher education contains Mathematics, which i never succeeded to pass exam. Either your smart, fit in and a theoretical learner, either your stupid...
I've been so bored all my life 😐
Now doing home studie, leadership, learning hungarian, (on my own way) working fulltime, follow multiple trainings ( lean Philosophy), rase up my son alone and are a stabile functioning person. Found a employer that tries to create a environment that works for me...

This did not work well for our local school. As the lady said at the start of the video, it’s not easy to tell who has learning disabilities which led some children with such as ADHD missed their opportunity to get diagnosis earlier. They need early intervention and they need a space with minimal disruption. I personally can’t study if my classroom is this chaotic during a lesson. Inclusiveness and diversity don’t have to mean keeping all children in a same room.

I should state that I am finnish. Because of these new kind of classrooms there is much more noise that interfere concentration. Because of this inclusion the PISA results in Finland has started to drop. Also boys are very much neglegted and they have great difficulties. Boys' future is not a problem for highly matriarcal feminist country like Finland. But look at Estonia! They copied the best bits of finnish system 20 years ago, skipped the feminist stuff and are now passed Finland in PISA results. This of course will never be admitted by feminists of Finland. Way to go Estonia!!!

be like a new car showroom, with distracting noise, headaches, and never knowing

I wish this was real life not fantasy Vikings education will be like Finland students celebrate graduation for 31 days for every grade
    School schedule
Students go to school 4 days of the week
    Winter Break 31 days
Homework is only ten minutes long
Super big fat tests are only at the end of the year.
    Summer vacation is 4 months
In school children and staff alike celebrate their birthday at school during lunch before or after lunch or both or at field trips.
Students can enjoy school activities like playing outside play pool watch tv play video games do sports in class breaks for 30 minutes if students get work done early they can enjoy the whole day off doing school activities or go on field trips the whole day.
If you do summer school students can enjoy longer class breaks.
After school clubs and activities are 4 hours
    School hours
    8:00-1:00
    After school hours
    1:00-5:00
Taxes will be the same as in the United Arab Emirates.
I wish this was real life not fantasy Old Norse still exist on the earth.

This is rich school. W can't compare the facilities with schools in developing countries. They have their own problems of education

      @alhapidzteguhgumilar 3 года назад

@Phupho 123 yes because they have lots of money to build best school facilities. If you can see in developing countries y will understand that they need facility first before they step to lesson quality

@@alhapidzteguhgumilar yes you are correct but in Finland it's illegal for school to take funding from parents so this is all tax funding so not really something you need rich ppl for if you change the tax system yes it'll take alot of time but it's perfectly doable and also this is more about the system of learning
P.s they're using this for Singapore one of the richest countries in there world

But having no desk is not ergonomic. I get that they want children to move around and not be confined to one spot, but working on the ground for extended periods is just not ergonomic.

Class controlling complaint from parents not there
Parents already teach manners of school to students
Children behaving well as compare to poor countries
Financially parents are sound so children also behave well

Singapore! not even close. Talking about output yes they do a fabulous job but about experiencing a learning environment as a kid, big NO. Singapore's educational system is way too competitive thereupon stressful.

Singapore big no. They give homework during the holidays. I don't think that Singapore knows the meaning about childhood and free time.
