I have been using single coil teles for 25+ years for metal, they are beasts
Same...they have that Tele growl and definition that to me is just incredible.
what pickup did u use?
That's great to hear I've just ordered an telecaster.
@@deviser5530 would love to know what you think about it once you've spent some time with it
@@scottperrin9655 I'm still new to this electric guitar stuff this will be my first guitar ever and I'm a lefty just so you know hehe. Here's the model/brand the guitar I bought online jcraft x ltx-1 if you were curious to know.
"With the right hands and the right attitude." That comment right there NAILED it!
Absolutely! A tele is an excellent choice for ANY style. It’s not the prototype by mistake. They go hard as hell, when you push them. Also....kudos for the Panthers fan shout out above the fireplace!
#keeppounding
Sounds like a perfect instrument for grunge music.
Grunge, garage, punk 👍🏼
Take a look at Nirvana's first album cover :D
go listen to belmont guys
also the dozen other alternative rock genres after 1994...............
lead guitarist of every grunge band :
Love the amount of energy the teles have overall. If you want warmer just change pickups or get an eq pedal or something. Workhorse guitar that can do anything
I wouldn't doubt it. I play doom metal with a 65 Jaguar, which is more or less a surf rock guitar.
Surf is just metal without distortion 😛
@@khaledsaid2410 Dick Dale invented black metal
And I play Death Metal on a SSS strat lol
@@Vlad-bi1ss Show us please :D
Also comes down to the player. Back in the day I rocked a mim classic player 50s tele through a mesa recto...hilarity ensued. Flash forward to now, Im running a different tele with a rail pickup...different story altogether.
If you don’t need a whammy bar, there’s nothing a telecaster can’t do. They are solid, versatile, stay in tune, and excellent guitars
Since I found MFD pickups on G&L, I never looked back. Not only great tone on vintage and clean tone, they handle distortion and high gain like dragon and fire. Aggressive yet intimate. Quite telephonic feedback, knocking body would transfer to amp due to such high output magnets but hey it’s a beast so yeah!
When I see a Telecaster doing metal, I can’t help but feel happy. And vindicated. 🙂
i like the SD quarter pound pickup set for tele. those are absolutely KILLER for heavy rock/metal tones.
John 5 says yes, most definitely.
WOW!!! I liked this guy
What about Jim root
jim root says yes but he has a signiture one with humbuckers
@@azraf8614 and john 5 too
yes, idiot he has a Tele with Hambucker pick
hay slipknot played a telecaster but it had emgs in it though
Great guitar players sh*t on "conventional wisdom".
That's what makes them great! 😃
This was a good video. 😎
I got broadcast pickups , it sounds nice for slayer songs
Wow bro you awesome!!! Make more riff on a Tele please...
Looks like a huge yes!
Telecasters, by their appearance, would be associated with country music. Look at the guitar shapes used in metal music. Pointy, flying V, aggressive looking ones. It's usually about appearance for metal. Imagine Zack Wylde shredding on a Telecaster... it would look out of place. Any genre can be played on any guitar with the right amplifier. In this video you clearly demonstrated that! Thumbs up!
metal started on an sg and a les paul
Zakk Wylde on a Telecaster isn't too far fetched. He uses a Les Paul which is also a single cut guitar.
@@calebheney302Nah, it started just as much on Strats and Teles. The first Sabbath album woukd have been a Strat if it hadn’t developed a fault, forcing Iommi to use his SG with P90’s. The first Zepplin album was entirely a Telecaster, Richie Blackmore used a Strat...
As the genre progressed and players were looking to drive amps harder and no real options beyond how loud the pickups were, humbuckers took over as the go-to for the genre. It the genre didn’t start with humbuckers.
@@calebheney302Active pickups were popular amongst Blues guitarists before they took over in Metal as well.
You play like a boss sir
This is why I love teles cause it's just a good tone even for metal
thank you
Nice playing!
Nice!
Telecasters are the epitome of you don’t know know what you have untill its gone
you can put distortion in everyone
did you know slipknot used one in their songs it had h h emgs
And the answer is...Yes. I have the same amp and I'm thinking of getting a Tele too. Great tone bro
Great tone! Hey! Are you using something to reduce hum from de single coils?
It really just depends on the type of amp your using
Great playing dude. It’s like watching a young Paul Gilbert.
I thought the same thing! Cool!
Let’s not get carried away.
Damnnnnn fucking amazing player
Sold
great video, thanks for the very informative demonstration.
Does that also apply when you're on a budget and asking for a heavy tone? You sure can get a Squier Telly but can you get a reasonably priced "angry" amp or would any cheap humbucker/amp combination be a better choice?
*Its djents. Confirmed*
Sorry, quick question, does amp affect the sound of pedals?
I use Jim Root model Telecaster for playing Metal 🤘
can you upload a vid playing that guitar??
Im jealous u have a jim root tele i have a affinity series tele signed by vince gill love that guitar
Shit, that EVH stack can’t hurt either.
graaaande rubius

I GOT A PEAVY TELE AND IT PLAYS METAL WELL ITS A 78 GEN
I used a tele through a peavey 5150 for metal for years...5150 and a tele bridge pick up...boom! all ya need (maybe a little roll off on the tone control)
Need Tab for that rhythm section in the beginning
Can you play _______ on a Telecaster?
Yes, yes you can :-p
Nice job man!
I think anything will sound like metal heaven when your amp is EVH 5150. You'd certainly get more mileage out of it though with humbuckers.
I have a Jim Root tele, no modifications and it plays metal quite nicely... (but I don't think you would describe it as a "regular" telecaster.) By the way, I just finished watching your video and I am absolved!
Doesn't that one have humbuckers? If so, I would expect nothing less. Lol
@@motcrue64 Hi Nick! Yes, it comes with a pair of EMG 81 and 60. So, not a regular Telecaster.
Those are modifications my friend. What he has in the video is a regular telecaster. Jim’s tele has two humbuckers an ebony fretboard and a mahogany body. There is nothing regular about the Jim tele.
@@noire1991 What I meant was that this is the way that it comes from Fender, I did not modify it myself.
really liked your video, I am currently trying to understand if I need to change the bridge pickup on my tele in order to play more hardcore punk/emo stuff. Though, I feel really uneasy thinking to mod my tele, maybe because I don't play heavy genres exclusively.
Maybe the right solution could be to get the right distortion and eq pedals?
Thank you! You are right!
I'm way late, but no man... You don't have to change anything if you don't want to. Pedals, amps, and computer software can give you just about any sound you want these days. You should only change the hardware if you want or need to. Tuning keys, strings, and mechanical upgrades can help you play/practice, but you can do anything else for recording and effects. I plan to build a Tele specifically for punk/grunge music with some tacky splatter or flannel paint job. It's all about fun.
❤❤❤❤
Technically, you can play any genre on any guitar.
There is no limit.
Can you explain to me what's the difference then? I am trying to find out what guitar to buy, I'll focus on rock and metal mainly!
@@maxpeters6444 any guitar with humbucker is like the default for rock and metal
@@maxpeters6444 Some pickups get very noisy with distortion, and some pickups handle distortion well but cleans aren't as clean sounding. Generally guitars have a different feel from each other, and looks do matter too in my opinion.
@@maxpeters6444 try getting humbuckers since itll handle the gain pretty well. but if you're ever thinking of playing with some clean tones, you can opt for sing coils. just use a noise gate when cranking up the gain on singe coil to remove the hum.
Update; a few months ago I bought a guitar with humbuckers and really loving it. Practising is going slow due to lack of timebbut steady!
What amp, etc are you playing here? Sound is awesome.
Thank you! It's an evh 5150 III
Ho-ly shit! and house still stand after this? Amazing sound, but doesn't it depends on what you're plugged in?
Tom Morello he is a telemetal master
what model is that tele? it looks so cool
It is part of a roadworn series!
are you using a noise gate or something similar ?
Probably but I can't fully remember
Best example that teles can sound mean? Listen to Unsane.
is that a player telecaster?
Imagine how heavy this could sound with ACTIVE PICKUPS!!!
John 5 plays tele
You can play metal on anything if you know how to play metal😂😂😂
question......did you get any excessive hum or buzz from the tele when you turned up the gain....if so how did you combat that ?
Noise gate is what youre looking for (y)
Tom morello use Telecaster.
Rob scallon can play metal with a shovel.. telecaster would be good
But it has emg’s so the shovel might generally be better than single coils.
If you can't play metal on a Tele somebody better tell John 5.
the question should be why would u want to play metal on a telecaster
because why not? hahahah 🙈✌🏻
Заебись!!👍👌🤞🤘
Why is the Rubius playing a telecaster?
Dunno why people wonder about this stuff, literally any guitar can play any style you want.
...its a mexican
You gotta play more aggressively man.
blah blah blah.. play..😁
Jesus Loves You
Stratocasters look so much better than Teles, though...
Strats look like toys to me personally, I like teles much more
That's totally subjective. I like both as far looks go but for playability my vote goes to the Telecaster. I play surf with mine (and everything else) ,even Dick Dale modified his Strat before he started using it.
Looks but sounds, eh NO
Thats some weak ass playin
Yeah, okay Steve Vai
Telecasters are the epitome of you don’t know know what you have untill its gone
