    My view on the collab videos: I feel like they're an addendum or bonus feature to the lesson videos, like the extras on an educational DVD. They're really nice to have. First you learn the lesson content and practice and then you watch the collab videos and try to pick out the lesson bits or similar ideas in the other playthroughs to see how a professional applies ideas to the form, like applied context for the lessons. I think they're incredibly valuable, they just don't show their full value when taken alone without the lessons. But they do add a lot when viewed in the context of learning and practicing active listening, especially targeted active listening carried over from a lesson

      Thanks for the feedback! I’m still planning on doing them next year, but maybe fewer instead of once per month.

      @@ChaseMaddox yeah I think quarterly, especially with the quantity/variety of people you've been able to get to contribute, would provide plenty of examples of lesson content and other approaches without getting too bogged down in the time and effort it takes to put the videos together.

    Collab videos are some of the coolest stuff I've ever seen here. I think they're really valuable because they show the toght process of these amazing musicians. I don't know why people don't enjoy them so much, maybe because they're long? Anyway I really like them, please keep making them!!

      Haha I’m not really sure either which is why I was asking. It definitely could be because of the length of them. Either way, I’ll still be doing more of them in 2024, but maybe with more focus on my own lessons first.

    How valuable it may be to get feedback using a form it reflects only a very small portion of your average viewcount , so its difficult drawing good conclusions from that. My suggestion would be to just make videos what inspires you the most at that moment , your passion will come across more than when trying to adapt your content on a small portion of viewers , even though I'm sure its still valuable.

      I’ll definitely still make videos that I want to, but I think it’s very valuable to hear from individuals about the specific things they like. I want to appeal to my most dedicated viewers who watch and interact.

    I like the idea of collabs, since they expose both different ideas/styles and also new (to us) guitar player to listen to (or other instruments). I think though that if the topic is too wide say, play your favorite chord melody although really useful it's going to be long and I'm going to put it off until I have time to listen to the whole thing. The thing I like about Paul Davids approach is he creates a progression that is short and succinct (i.e. includes) some interesting changes. Plus everyone is playing over the exact same track so you really get to see the difference in their approach. And overall the video is short so easy to watch. The other thing which I think is really important is Paul provides the backing track so you can play the exact same thing the pro players are playing over. If you adopted that approach it would also allow you to provide a lesson(s) on that progression and even pull information from the other guitarist performances. I've even posted my own version of one of Pauls videos, and intend to go back and find them all and do posts for each. I think that approach for jazz, a specific jazz progression (could be a common progression, an original progression, the A or B section of a standard, a more modern progression etc,) but short with the backing track would be great. This would allow direct comparisons of approaches, much more concentrated set of material and great vehicle for you provide lessons and for us the learners to try the same thing. It would actually be cool to then have a follow up video of some of your students videos.
    I discovered you through one of the collabs (because I liked Paul's collabs I was interested to see it in the jazz context). But it was long and didn't provide an apples to apples comparison for me.
    I like your videos that take a subject and teach one thing at a time, those are really useful, but the main thing that drew me into CGA is 50 tunes in order building upon each other. For me that was thing that I was looking for. I simply don't have the listening background in jazz to know what tunes I should pick (and I tend to jump around from tune to tune without really learning one well which is waste of time) so having them picked but also what versions to listen to, what solo(s) is good to learn or study, have the solo analyzed, that stuff is gold for me. Plus CGA has lots of other content that's not on your channel.
    I said I would give you more feedback about your channel in a few months now that I know about it. But I do like the your youtube lessons, you pick one thing and you explain it well and in a reasonably short period of time. So my vote for your youtube channel is to continue lessons. But I also think variety of content is really important too.
    I think someone else said they are watching other channels less since joining CGA, that's true for me too. I still like other channels and will watch them if I'm trying to find something specific or just see other approaches to something, but my focus is CGA.
    I also totally appreciate you supply the PDF without having to go to patreon, It must have worked because I joined CGA :).

      One other collab I like is having other guitarists pick their favorite or most influential solo. Or solo good for beginner, intermediate type player etc.

      I think feedback that allows multiple answers (maybe rated) might provide more useful info. So for instance either multiple check box or a 1 to 5 rating system for a set of questions.

      Hey Mark! There’s a lot here to respond to which might be better for us to discuss in depth within CGA, but I’ll answer your main points. I totally agree with your analysis of how Paul Davids did his collabs. I specifically decided not to have everyone play on the same track because I knew these top jazz musicians would want much more freedom to be able to pick their tempo, key, arrangement, etc. For future ones I may have a bit more guidance on the format, but initially it was important to these musicians that they had that ability to fully express their musicianship or else they wouldn’t have accepted.
      I appreciate all the CGA feedback too, and am glad to have you as a member 🙏

    I agree with Chase--those collab videos make his content stand out. I dunno if everyone understands how hard it is to edit all the content for those collabs and the time it takes to reach out to the pro's. Even in-person masterclasses can't offer that wide array of perspectives. Those videos aren't the bonus for me, they are the draw. What draws me away from your channel is the stuff about Barry Harris. I already commented about going on a deeper dive into Barry Harris yourself because you are missing a lot of the wealth he had to offer, but that's your journey to take ;) Just be careful about how your curate that journey for others, because there's a lot of misconceptions about Barry Harris's pedagogy elsewhere on RUclips as well ;(

      @@ChaseMaddox Thank you for not being super sensitive to my criticism as well. Unfortunately, some content creators are still holding onto what I said about enclosures years into the future ;) If you ever do another one of those roundup's, I'll ask my current teacher if he wants in--he's played with Barry Harris and is known as one of the top living bop guitarists in NYC. Russell Malone, Jimmy Bruno, and Gene Bertoncini can't be wrong ;) Glad that you got Graham Dechter to do a spotlight--he's another amazing guitarist that I had the opportunity to learn from in years past.
