Can't wait for new players to try Pirates in Hawaii as their first game only to have Majima's while story spoiled as he recovers his memories

While that is unfortunate, the likely scenario is that sixty percent of the players who wind up getting this game, who aren’t already fans of the Like A Dragon series, are probably not going to touch any other game in the series. Just look at the noticeable decline in sales between 0 and the rest of the series. (I suspect 0 doing as well as it did might have something to do with being released around the first year launch period of the PS4.)
Besides, we still don’t even know how much the Majima will show and how they are going to be handled. Are they going to be a series of dedicated sub stories that we can play through, or are they just a bunch of cutscenes? Or will it be the bare minimum like in Infinite Wealth where we just get a picture with some accompanying text.
Majima fights the Pirate Queen in Madlantis, “You sound familiar. Park flashbacks are triggered.”
Who knows, the Pirate Queen could actually be an older Mirei Park. If Andre Richardson could survive falling off of the “ruff” of a skyscraper, who is to say that Park could not survive a fall from what was a maybe four story dance agency.

@@AnotherLikeADragonFan2019poor sales since 0? Dude, the game’s been out since 2015. Of course it will have sold a lot of copies by now. Infinite wealth is by far the fastest selling of the franchise, exceeding 1 million sales it’s starting week, faster than any in the franchise. The series isn’t dying, if anything, it went through a renaissance

@@edman9953 I think you might have misunderstood what I meant. never said that the sales for the games post 0 were bad, just that there is a noticeable difference in sales numbers between 0 and every game that came before and after it. I’m not suggesting that the series has gone downhill, just pointing out the fact that a majority of people who played 0 did not touch the rest of the series. In other words, 0 is the game that has the casual audience has played the most. Which is why it still has the highest sale count out of all of them. That is all I meant when I said that.

As someone who's not the biggest fan of the newer games, I am pretty much happy that we are getting a game for Majima since dude needed his own adventure after not being playable in 6. Not to mention thanks to this yakuza pirate game that's coming out next year, that pretty much means that we have not 1 but 2 modren games that have naval combat in them with the first being YS 10 that just came out. If this means that we're gonna be getting like more of these types of games with the other couple of characters that were only playable and like maybe 1 or 2 games from the old titles then I'm all for it.

After the middling reviews of the Amazon series, I think this could be a good opportunity for RGG to promote Yakuza 0 as an entry point to the series. I had the same experience, I initially played Y: LAD out of curiosity, then played Y0 and got hooked to the entire series. Put it out to the Switch like Kiwami.

I think the biggest thing that Gaiden series can offer and that is something many people wanted for a long time: giving the beloved characters their own games. Sure, Gaiden with Kiryu was not exactly that, since we had plenty of games with Kiryu up to that point, but what about Majima? He was playable in Dead Souls, had a major role in 0 and was another protagonist, and in Kiwami 2 he had dedicated chapters to himself, separate from the main game.
There is a problem tho. In Dead Souls, he was basically a skin, since many of the characters play the same, and in K2, his story and even moveset was mostly, well, nothing. The only worthwhile Majima addition was way back in 0.
Pirate game could solve this for sure. And my main point to all of this: this could be only the beginning. Gaiden games can be a format for beat em up games starring all-time favourites like Akiyama, Saejima, Tanimura, Shinada, heck, you can even make Gaiden games about some villains like a game about Yamai, etc. or even a Kazama prequel game.

The issue getting into yakuza is playing through games like 3, 4 and 5. If they just released Yakuza Kiwami 3, Kiwami 4, Kiwami 5, that issue would pretty much go away since the biggest complaint is that its jank.

Where did this whole “do I need to play these games first?” thought come from? The stories of the Like A Dragon games are relatively self contained between titles. The only thing newer players would really miss are the context behind certain character interactions and relationships.
This is not like a God of War to God of War Ragnarok type of situation where the sequel is a direct follow up to the previous game. Yes, some of the Like A Dragon games have follow up events in the sequels but never a direct continuation.
Even for new players that are jumping into the newest title, the profiles tab (that nobody reads) already covers all the necessary information. Almost every game has a recap of some sort to get new players caught up so unless they don’t want to be spoiled about the plot elements of a game they have not played yet, being lost should not be a problem.

Honestly, you don't need to play all the games. I've only played 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2, then skipped ahead to Yakuza 6, then Like A Dragon, then Gaiden, then Infinite Wealth. I understood everything just fine, but I agree the game would have a LOT less punch if I started with Infinite Wealth.

    • @ItHamBoi

I think that skipping games doesn't prevent you from understanding the story, but gives less impact to some things, like the ending of Gaiden

my problem is i played a beat em up for 25 years and loved it and now it's got rid of kiryu replaced with a fool Ichiban whos just unlikeable and moved away from the yakuza scene altogether mostly. Gaiden was amazing, but hawaii and ichiban is boring

    • @AnotherLikeADragonFan2019
      @AnotherLikeADragonFan2019 3 месяца назад +1

I think you might be off by a good six years. Yakuza 1 wasn’t a PS1 game. How is it 25 years if 2025 is the 20th anniversary?
As for the rest, I respectfully disagree. I won’t harp on you for not liking Ichiban as a character because I have been on the other side of that conversation before. What I will say is this, if you are waiting for a proper successor to Kiryu, you are going to be waiting a long time. Each protagonist is meant to be different from one another and comparing them is pointless because they each have their own gameplay and story style.
Kiryu: Noir Crime Drama and Beat ‘em’ up.
Majima: Modern Personal Dramedy and hack and slash.
Ichiban: Shonen Anime Drama and turn based.
The newer games are meant to be the start of a new era. The yakuza presence in Japan has been dwindling over recent years thanks to the anti-yakuza policies put in place. So moving away from the yakuza side of things actually makes sense. Even then, the yakuza still have quite a bit of a presence in the Ichiban games. Besides, this series has grown and changed so much over the near twenty years of its existence that in all honesty, they can tell just about any kind of story now.
Whether or not you like the changes the series made is up to you, but at the end of the day, the older games are still there for you to play. They aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. The harsh reality is that we cannot have things stay the same forever. Change comes for us all in the end.
At the very least, the Gaiden games will give the action beat em up game fans their real time combat fix. We are guaranteed one Gaiden between each major Ichiban game. So if don’t like Ichiban, a Gaiden game starring someone else should be up your alley. I’m certain that after Majima’s Pirates in Hawaii, Ryuji Goda or Shun Akiyama is next. Perhaps another spinoff like Judgement starring a new protagonist.
Yokohama 99 game starring Suguira. I don’t know. I’d take anything at this point.
