    Great perspective. Thanks for sharing.
I find it also helps me if I think about all the people who start in this business and then quit...the longer I stay, the less of a statistic I become and the more I'm likely to survive this war of attrition...

I loved this message, because everyone has their own aesthetic that they're able to bring to the table, but most importantly even though there are lots of producers in this industry not all of them are consistent. Lots of them can't make deadlines or don't like to be pushed towards them, or they make different music from what the library is looking for, etc. We can go on and on, but the most important thing is to follow what you enjoy doing and do it. Time waits for no man so it's better to start now and work towards goals to accomplish instead of getting in our own way of not doing anything, which is more hurtful in the end.

Ha, wow! I admit that I've had the exact same question lately - even though I did get into this some years ago already with a fair amount of placements, but have had a big dry spell lately and worried this was due to over saturation of the market. Good point of view - thanks!

thank you for what you are doing! so, finally, in this business, is it better to be jack of all trades and make everything from gypsy jazz to dubstep or is it better to be a go to guy in a few genres?

Get really good at one or two genres and then you can branch out after that. In the beginning, it's good to be known as the "[insert genre] guy" so people know what style of music they can get from you.

I'm a rock and pop guy myself. There's really no genre I won't try - as long as there's a licensing need for it.
