@2:52 if I can share some knowledge with you on fishing ponds that have fishing derbies like this one. 1 the smaller and darker the bait the better, remember these are fish hatchery stocks so they are fed on fish pellets. 2 you do not have to cast deep to catch trout especially on fishing Derby days max 7 feet from shore, again these fish are from a hatchery so they are used to getting fed near a bank. This is a little bit of the tricks to use, I have fished over 80 different derby's here in SoCal. All similar ponds like the one you're fishing in this video 🤘🇺🇸🤘🇺🇸🤘🎣🤘🇺🇸🤘🎣🤘🇺🇸
We have events like that here in Idaho, they are called the fishing trailer event and it is packed when the trailer is at the ponds, they also stock fish right before the event and sometimes the bite is fire and other times it is dead! I fished on free fishing day at one pond last year and me and a buddy were catching 16 inch plus fish! Great video, glad you were able to get on some fish!!! Cannot wait for the next video!!!

The derby this year and last year both sucked because people were chumming the shit out of them 2 years ago i caught 73 trout this year i got 15 and last year i got 12 and after the derby i have been consistently catching 5 or 6 a day. This year the guy next to me shows up and the first thing he does is throw literally an entire can of corn in the water.
I remember when I used to fish with corn for carp out west and everyone would freak out about the trout not digesting corn. Then id explain to them that i'm not fishing for stocker trout. I fished for wild trout in the rivers and on Saturday morning I'd go next door to work and catch my limit on stickers and bring them into work for a guy.
The state of Missouri has 5 trout parks. Trout season starts March 1st. Each evening before dark trout are stocked, the number is determined by the average ticket sale for the last 20 years for that day. One difference, often the fishermen are standing shoulder to shoulder. Every morning a horn is sounded and the chaos begins. What you described happens every morning. Of course the amount of anglers decreases as the summer progresses. People complain about it but they still show and stand by the water for hours until the horn blows. How do I know, just ask me. Stocked trout do have a habit of hitting great until the sun's starts bellowing down on them . And that water was really clear to boot. Only thing you could have done was try to get some reflex strikes. Maybe a micro sinking jerk bait or crank bait. The sinner may have started to work too.👍😄

I was at spot 60 & 61 on your right hand side. Got a few hits but no trout. We have fish the trout derby since 2008 . Some years are great others no trout
Your powerbait is too close to your weight. You want like 3-4 feet as it floats. It also looks like your weight is too big. Use the smallest weight and a slider. They feel the sinker and drop the powerbait so you want to use a little sinker. Your line is also very slack. You should keep it tight as they often pick it up and you have no idea.
Maybe in a lake yea but this pond is only 3.5 -4 ft deep. Weight is just a tiny splitshot. They have no issue picking up the bait with it here. People were using 20lb leaders and 2 oz weights and we’re catching them. I prefer slack so they feel little to no rod pressure that way they just swallow it and you can land em.
We’ve resent it 3 times now and usps can’t seem to find your address for some reason. Not completely sure why. Are you coming to the meet and greet this Saturday? If so I can hand it off to you there
This type of fishing is for little kids who are inexperienced and are just starting out. How is enjoyable being right next to people, hearing all of that noise, fish dumped from a fire house/bucket etc? People need to go fish a wild trout steam in the woods and experience REAL fishing.
not everyone has wild trout stream near them. I do agree this is tailored toward kids but they have plenty kids only events. it is quite the experience if you've never done one, honestly having good neighbors i think was key for us having a decent time.

You know like 90% of trout fishing all over is stocked trout right? There are a few streams up north here that hold some wild fish, but most of America is stocked trout

That’s actually a long time myth and there was a study done that shows corn doesn’t kill trout. If it did it would be illegal to use. As for size limit there’s none here. And chumming is legal here so people around had every right to do it, I should have brought some for myself this day

Try throwing a handful of pebbles where youre casting. Stock trout are fed pellets and they ll think its feeding time.
