  • Some more gameplay from Daytona USA 2 Battle on the Edge using the recently discovered Hornet secret car. Weirdly, I actually found it easier getting first place on the Expert track using the Hornet, than on the Advanced. I actually attempted the Expert track first, so I opted for automatic transmission here, whilst I way getting my head around how it handles.
    I mentioned in my '25 years of Daytona USA: Special Edition' video that I was trying to play it like the original Hornet in Daytona USA 1 (and the Hornet in Daytona USA 2: Power Edition) by doing the 4-2-4 gear drift, and as a result I kept losing loads of speed. I've subsequently realised, thanks to another video on RUclips, trying to play it that way doesn't work. It is it's own animal entirely and doesn't handle anything like any of the other cars in either this game or Daytona 1.
    Fuck me, this car is like the Shin Akuma of Daytona USA 2, once you start to understand it. With the speed, over steer and suspension all cranked up to the max, you don't actually even need to touch the brakes to initiate a drift; just turn sharply and the drift will initiate on it's own. You just need to drop down to 3rd from 4th afterwards (in most instances) so that you can accelerate away again quickly.
    How to access the Hornet:
    "Present in Battle on the Edge is a hidden "Specialist Only" Hornet car with modifiable performance. This car was originally thought to have been unused, but it has since been revealed that it can be accessed via a code on the course selection screen. Multiplayer colors are also available for the car.
    To unlock the Hornet, perform the following steps when starting a new game:
    Before starting the game, move the gear stick into first gear.
    At the course selection screen, move the stick into fourth gear.
    Finally, before selecting a course, press the view select buttons in the following order: 1, 4, 2, 4, 1, 2, 2+3 (together), and 1.
    If done correctly, you'll get the Hornet in place of the usual selection of cars. The car's stats can be modified using the view buttons and the steering wheel."

    I'm really stunned to see the Hornet classic is playable in BOTE using a code. About 20+ years, we're able to drive this car finally. Before, we didn't know it was hidden in the game's data until code is unveiled thanks to an individual who posted the instructions on how to access the code on the Tcrf website. A few years ago, in the games test mode, I've discovered the sound test and it said, You can use the secret car. I actually don't know why that sound voice was implemented in the game. But, now we know. All these years, I'm not sure if SEGA purposely marked the Hornet as a hidden vehicle in this version(I think Team Marubaku have access the car's hidden code during the game's development. I'm not sure). The physics of this car handles nothing like the first game although, the car's physics we're tweaked in it's update, Power Edition. It's really cool that the player has a few customization options but it's very limited and short. Not like those sim racing games out in the market where customization features are widely available.

    This is insane... About 2 decades on, and the Hornet Classic is finally playable in the original version of Daytona USA 2. I was literally looking at old MARUBAKU videos the other day for strategies on how to control Phantom in Power Edition, and the description mentions that the Hornet did indeed exist in BOTE but they supposedly couldn't tell us the code (probably because Japanese arcade players like to keep these secrets to themselves). Those videos are from 9 to 10 years ago at this point, and now the secret is out in the open.
    I wonder if someone who has a real BOTE machine could try it out...

      This car's a bit more spicy than the CCE super Daytona car. You basically couldn't mess up at all if you used the CCE secret car, it was so overpowered in all stats and the 5 star grip meant it was pretty much impossible to put it into a spin. Controlling the BOE Hornet though, feels a bit more akin to trying to tame a wild beast, if you oversteer too much in one direction, that bad boy will be spinning out faster than Charlie Sheen at a Coke and Strippers convention.

    • @MrThunderwing
      @MrThunderwing  3 года назад +4

      It's the same as in Daytona USA 1: Keep your foot on the brake, try and hold you RPMs between 6-7 and once the countdown finishes, release the brake and floor the accelerator. The closer you can keep the needle to 7, the faster and more sustained your rocket start.

    • @MrThunderwing
      @MrThunderwing  3 года назад +4

      If you're going to try this at home kids, it's a really good idea to make sure you've properly calibrated your brake and gas pedal (using the command line option '-config-inputs -input-system=dinput', then pressing 'b' on your keyboard and following the instructions that come up on the command line window), so Supermodel is seeing the full range of movement across it.
