Onslaught is my favorite by far, especially for gna or thor with the blue ring aoe attacks. You can just charge into them and be fast enough to interrupt easily.
I think that’s exactly why it was made. Especially when it comes to Berserkers since they can Teleport 2 miles away to perform those blue rings attacks 😓
Facts
My problem with the Dauntless is that whenever you get surrounded and more than one enemy starts throwing yellow ring attacks, you're basically done if you miss a parry, because then you'll get stuck in that broken defense animation, getting hit from everywhere. It's parry window seems much smaller as well.
I'm currently using it but I think I'll change for the Stone Wall. Hopefully I'll get the Guardian soon because I thought it's balance was perfect in the first game, and I love it's parry animations for both R1 and R2.
I don’t know if you started fighting the berserkers yet but I think the Dauntless is a must for those fights. But you are actually spot on with the parries. If you miss one, you are definitely going to get hit by the following attack unless you can pop your rage. It really is a high risk high reward shield
@@Djisso I haven't yet, but I think I'll go the with safest option, since The Maven already kicked my ass lol
If you use wrath rage then you can cancel the animation and not take any damage
Got a relic or whatever that gives me more timing for a parry
It’s the stonewall for me! Playing in the hardest difficulty is painful enough as it is. No need to enhance the pain with going around testing shields 🤣😂. We’ll leave that to you master Djisso.
Haha paired with the Steinbjorn Armor set with the crazy defense in the game, you might actually end up being a true wall 😮💨
Dauntless goes brrrrr
I'm so glad there is infinite health gauntlet in niflheim, it's good to practice stuff without having to get one shot and wait for loading screen a thausand times, specialy while playing on ps4.
on top of all the good things you said about the Dauntless it also is the only shield that provides Cooldown. lets you stay in rhythm of constantly using runic attacks
Spot on ! Especially for the berserker boss fights, I can’t possibly imagine going against them with a regular shield since you barely have time to parry/reflect back and are always on the move. Dauntless is the best if you want to play super agressive
Thank you so much, you are a saint. It was driving me insane that when I was trying to use the Spartan Shield variation is that I was trying to do the counter attack but I had no idea how to do it because everybody was talking about on RUclips about how you Perry. But it never said anything about how you get it to do The counter attack.
Love the thorough explanation ❤️
Anw thanks for the feedback ❤️
Dauntless shield: For Bosses
Shatter Star Shield: For Enemies
Shatter is easily the more versatile one since it can change one’s playstyle completely. I love Daunty to death though
Onslaught with the purification round was my go to
@Djisso I have to make a correction on the stone wall shield, It does allow you to parry, but instead of stunning and giving a little slow down, it reduces *Kratos's block stun (as does the Shadow Shield) so that he can immediately counter w/ the right move... So if you put a stun mod on a skill that benefits it more in the skill tree, you can see how this might work to your advantage ( it also depends on what type of enemy you're facing that elite draugr is not going to be easily stunned or countered.) The Charging shield is the same way but also, shortens block stun, but also gives a visual slowdown... If you had the benefit of the extra stun *on skill, it would be OP... with a certain *relic in place lol...
One more thing, the Guardian shield has the ability to sweep or strike on parry, which Fae can capitalize on... *but the Dauntless shield indeed does it all... including automatically reflecting projectiles on parry, It just happens immediately and doesn't allow you to slow down and redirect them... It's all about keeping the action going....
I think I'll go with the classic shield we have at the start of the game. classic krstos style
The i-frames you get post parry are the highlights with this shield
Shatterstar shield is by far the most high skill shield, and I don't blame people for saying it's bad.
Also, you missed the fact that the shatterstar shield has a mechanic, where if you do the shield punch right before an enemy is about to hit you, it will parry the attack and charge the shield up by one bar.
Also, after charging the shield up, rather than parrying, I dodge and activate a realmshift and after that do the shield punch. If you have the Alfheim strike enchantment, it makes the shield do ridiculous damage. That's how I use it, the only real problem for me is that it can't defect projectiles
I think onslaught shield is the best, the parry timing actually makes sense unlike some other shields, and when you’re fighting later on bosses like Thor and the berserkers, the big blue ring charge up attacks are super easy to catch because the shield bash is running.
Yep that's exactly why I used it my last playthrough also you can get around faster just start the animation and when you are about to "attack" evade forward then repeat. I haven't gotten it in my gmgow playthrough that I'm on now but I'm close to getting it
I mean, it surely is a good and reliable shield, especially when it comes to those blue rings attacks. But I think “the best” shield is one which complements your playstyle. I like to play aggressively so Dauntless is perfect (so would the Guardian shield). Then the Shatter star Shield is great for cancels and not breaking the flow of combat and lastly, The stone wall shield will have your back if you don’t feel confident about your parries
I just haven’t figured out where exactly the onslaught shield belongs when it comes to play style
the stone shield is a hit or miss. Its all around useful ness but a master of none. Especially on tougher enemies that have multiple string attacks can easily out burn your shield and break your gaurd anyways when the meter runs out. @@Djissoits shield slam animation is also slower to pull off with no s on it so its easily to get hit while doing it at a bad time which sometimes you have to try and to delete the meter from running out. Alot of higher end light elf flurry attacks berserkers for sure and even those horned animal that gallop up and down at you can easily break your shield. SO its clear to me the people that relay the stone shield immediately to the 'pussy shield" or the "easy' shield havent given it a try long enough to see its big downfalls that the parrying allows you to override like staggering and interupting those flurry attacks from even happening at all. Which is why frankly i end up ditching it because it stops being as useful as it pretend to be and ironically all the people hating on the shield are actually playing with the 'easy' shield. lol
Shield tier list:
1. Guardian
Why? Its the most balanced play-style, with quick parries and counter attacks which have a high interruption. It basically guarantees you i-frames when counter attacking after a parry.
2. Dauntless
Why? Its the most high risk, high reward. There is an amazing synergy between the shield strike and the triangle instant charge for the blades. The reason why its not no.1 is that when you shield strike after building up multiple charge, you dont get i-frames like the guardian shield. The animation for the shield strike also is slower when its more powerful so even though it causes a stronger hit reaction the enemy might clip you with its attack before you interrupt. However, it does mean you can quickly chain parries, and when you have the cooldown rond with it the shield is amazing for cooldowns.
3. Onslaught shield
Why? The reason this is below the dauntless and guardian but above the others is because you can parry attacks like the guardian shield and dauntless. It means you can also chain parries and not generally be caught out by timings. Secondly, the charge feature of the onslaught is super useful as it blocks parry attacks from the front, and it launches enemies into the air upon contact. For boss type enemies, it evokes a strong hit reaction. Its also extremely good for interrupting blue charge up attacks as the shield makes you faster and can close the distance. However, its obviously not as good as the guardian or dauntless.
4. Shatterstar shield
Why? The animation for the block is regular, which is a plus. However, the fact that the double tap causes a shield punch isnt great. It doesn’t have the benefit of consistent launches, and if you want to use the shield to its full potential then you have to double tap L1 during a parry attack to stack shield charges. This makes it difficult to use effectively, as tapping L1 once for a parry is much better than tapping it twice in the same time frame. Still, the shield is fun to use and i like the charge stack mechanic.
5. Stonewall shield
Why? Does not let you block parry attacks inevitably. When you gain full 4 charges, yellow attacks now stagger you and cause you to get hit. It means you are forced to use the L1 shield strike even if you dont want to, otherwise you can’t block…? Also the animation for the strike is super slow. F
You actually can still block yellow and regular attacks with the stonewall shield charged up, you just have to parry or “perfect” block with it at that point, if you do you’ll be rewarded with knocking the enemy out of whatever hit animation they were doing and kinda stun them for a second. Btw I agree with you the dauntless shield is the best and my personal favorite. But since learning this about the stone wall it’s free on me a little more.
I really hope onslaught shield gives you either hyper armor buffs or i-frames while during animation and can be cancelled with ease so i make it like rapid slash from dmc. Such shame it really less functional.
I can find some usefulness to the shatter star Shield since it allows you to cancel your moves but I really struggle with the onslaught one
i use the shatter star shield on bosses because it has a really quick shield strike animation. so it always ensures i can land those attacks and it you upgrade the shield enough it inflicts damage on enemies as well as stun
Thankfully I chose stone wall cause I forgot to play ragnorok or 2018 for like 4 months and it should make getting used to the controls again easier especially since I started on give me a challenge
For me the Stone Wall shield is the best option, may not be the best, but the fact I can tank yellow attacks and normal attacks to release a shockwave that gives me some breathing space, its invaluable
It is honestly a great addition to the game. I used it for 30% of my Play through and merely switched because I wanted a more agressive play style
The Dauntless Shield is also my favourite but the problem is that I think the Parry moments in this game are somewhat more harder to do then the last game. To me some Attacks feel too quick then I hit L1 too late & others feel too long then I hit L1 too early.
I’ve been practicing with it lately & I think I’m getting better at the parries with each one I do.
I was also struggling with the parry window at first. And sometimes I could swear that my timing is impeccable but I would still miss the parry
And it doesn’t help that some enemies have very long wind up for their attacks
@@Djisso they incorporated the Elden Ring delayed attacks. Lol
Yeah i would struggle at first until i got the hand of it and i have relic or whatever for the dauntless (it works for any shield) and it gives me a bigger parry timing
An update on this I went and practiced my parries for a full day and I then went and battled Gna & Hrolf with the Dauntless shield & I want to say that through out their battles it was 97% Successful parries.
Most of them even being Red ones where it’s the Literal nano second parry. There were a small handful of yellow Parries I did but more red ones & of course the last 3% being the parries I missed or didn’t see coming. So with practice I’m sure everyone will get the hang of it like I managed to do.
That’s it ‼️Practice Does make perfect. And personally, the moment I got the hang of the parries, I never went back to the Stone wall shield. You can Be more agressive with parries 🔥
Don't sleep on the onslaught shield, what it does besides the mobility is give you a HUGE ass parry window the way I look at it
Ooh good to know. I was actually trying to experiment more with the Shatter Star shield (great for cancels). I can then try my luck with the Onslaught Shield. I didn’t like the idea of the shield since I was attempting to no hit certain encounters and running at enemies like that was very unsafe
@@Djisso what I started doing is every time I see a parryable attack come up I just do the onslaught running charge and it always parries everything without any need to actually time yourself. I actually thing it's the best shield for no damage runs since all you gotta do is run in, parry everything automatically, hit and run and back away to repeat
Stonewall Shield is also capable of blocking attacks with a yellow ring.
Yes ‼️ It is indeed a wall
Heres some builds that i will share so ppl wont be throwing controllers after losing to gna in gmgow idk like 50 times (totally not me)
For the aggresive players who like to be aggresive with the dauntless and onslought is the steinbjorn armor because you can play with ur play style comfortably while not giving up all your idunn apples.
For stone wall and shatter star i either reccomend radiance set because for the shatter star you would want to move and not get hit so when you dodge and get realm shift, you can unleash the might of the stars as for stone wall i reccomend any build that is status inflict such as lunda because if i recall, there is a rond that will boost damage against status afflicted enemies.
As for gaurdian shield i like to think of it as an all rounder because it has the projectile deflect, good for parrying and overall the defense is quite helpful, so to help with that i'd like to use survival set because the survival set is a good all rounder unlike the berseker.
Hope this helps.
Btw sorry for bad grammar or misspelling.
Dauntless for me even though I suck at parrying I like the look of it especially with the later game weapon
I love the parry animation too on the Dauntless
I've never really used onslaught shield. Only time I used it was during Valhalla as part of the challenge. I like to parry in the game and onslaught can parry but won't let you do an after attack. I prefer dauntless shield (or the aspis) and if you get used to the timing for them, any shields will just have easier timing.
Those shield showed in the video gives you defense + runic, defense + cooldown, defense + luck and that… is there any shield in the game that gives you defense + force ?
Nope unfortunately there isn’t
But you can find shield attachments which do
I’ve been using the dauntless a lot more in my recent play throughs still gotta improve on my timing
Why are there no videos about the different ronds and which shield they pair with best?
The dauntless is ok but the perfect parry is so tight and when playing on gmgow missing that timing is just so unforgiving. I used to use the dauntless but the stone wall was just better for me. Especially on the higher difficulty.
There is shield atachment that increase parry window.
When You miss a parry in the hardest difficulty, unless you have rage to back you up, you are pretty much dead lol
Like yeah it is a tight timing but it is something you eventually get better at the more you challenge yourself. And like someone said, there is the Rond of Deflection (I think) which increases your parry window which is great
Me: collecting various shields
Also me: Don't use the shields😬😂
Lol, you definitely want to mixed things up a bit though. The Stone wall shield carried me all the way to Alfheim but then I had to drop it for the Dauntless shield
@@Djisso I am in Asgard now and never used a shield 😬😂
Guardian Shield have s when parrying but Dauntless doesn't have s right?
I absolutely love the stone wall shield. This guy going on like "its just for beginners." I've tried & tested every shield in the game & the stone wall is awesome, obviously for my play style. Also, you forgot to mention the BLUE attacks off enemies. There's yellow, blue & red. The stone wall shield can block those yellow & blue attacks, only if you've upgraded the stone wall shield right. All the shields have their Pros & Cons. Also, this guy saying....The Dauntless Shield is the "best" in the game, is absolutely ridiculous. Just because you personally think its the "best" in the game, that doesn't mean it is. Like I said before, all these shields have their Pros & Cons. & it depends on your gameplay style.
The funny part about your comment is the fact that you don’t seem to understand what An Opinion is.
Just because I say that the Dauntless shield is the best means that It HAS to be the best for everyone. As you yourself so kindly pointed out that the Stone wall shield suited YOUR playstyle, it is expected that you would understand that some other shield might fit someone else’s.
Going on and On about “this guy” 🤣
Anyway, I think every shield is great in this game and it all depends on your play style and also build. I disliked the shatter star shield at first but now I can perform cancels specifically with that shield. I still struggle with the Onslaught shield but yeah, they all have their usefulness
@Djisso . My apologies friend. I've just recently come out of hospital. Recovering from the Flu & Pneumonia. So my head was all over the place when I left that message. I've just re-read my comment aswel. Anyways, Djisso. Thanks for the ❤ a response. Keep on Gaming. GG 👍🏻
Great tutorial. Thank you ver much!
You are Welcome 🥹!!
Does the stonewall shield stop the wyvern grab attack I could sworn I was blocking and the bar wasn’t full but it still grabbed me
Even though the stone wall shield can absorb some hits, you can still perform parries. So that Wyvern grab attack can be avoided if you parry as it is about to hit since the stone wall shield can’t absorb grabs
@@Djisso thanks that definitely helped me understand the stonewall shield better even though now every time I see a wyvern I take out my 4 wrath’s and all my runic attacks on it 😂
I think the biggest reason the shatterstar shield sucks rn is because it’s partially bugged. In the description, it says that you can parry by using the shield bash and in by doing that it would be empowered- the problem being that the parry with that is bugged so you just get hit. The problem with that shield is that when multiple enemies use yellow attacks, you’re screwed, but it seems like the devs wanted you to mitigate that by shield bashing; so, the shatterstar shield should be the best shield when being overwhelmed because you’re supposed to be able to absorb all of those attacks with your bash and then redirect it, but since it’s bugged you can’t :/
But then is it really a bug or it is by design ? From the looks of it, the shield is performing exactly the way the devs wanted to. And for some odd reason, you can only cancel certain moves/skill with the shatter star shield and I wonder what makes this shield the only one able to do it
Dauntless Shield with the Rond of the Nine Realms 😎😎😎
Realm Shift on Demand 😎
@@Djisso
With: heimdall's sword relic, pommels of the 9 realms, hilt of the 9 realms, grip of the 9 realms and gauntlets and waist of radience maxxed out...
Makes this game so much more fun when you're essentially a time traveler 🤣🤣🤣
Dauntless is Guardian Shield on steroids, the only thing that is better on the Guardian Shield is the i-frames when returning an attack
The I-frames of the guardian shield is truly a blessing. But having used it for the entirety of the previous game, I was glad we had options now
Daunty all the waaaaaay 😭
ok the guardian shield then
Haha no, the Dauntless shield is actually really good. Give it a try
What's the best shield attachment for the dauntless and stonewall or in general?
I think it depends on your playstyle and build. I am always switching things around so I don’t have a “perfect” Attachment
However, people have reported struggling with the timing on the dauntless shield so you can use the attachment to extend the parry window.
And since you will have your shield up for a while with the Stone wall shield, you could have the attachment which makes your shield explode if you have your guard up for some time
@@Djisso which one is that one that makes your shield explode?
@@vshipz rond of fortification charged all the way up it will send enemies flying or do massive stun and knock them way back. To charge the shield and the fortification is basically the same amount of time.
Dauntless all the way❤️❤️
I had difficulties when facing dragon enemy, or like croc something like when they swing their tail...im getting hit,
You could use the stone wall shield then if the timing always throws you off. You will be able to just tank the hit without worrying about parrying
@@Djisso I see...im trying to do the same like you do, but i think there's a glitch during my battle...my shield is delay to pop up, i don't know maybe my controller lmao or something...
Man today i fired a bifrost spell from shatter star shield, can you help me to know what I've done and how i did that?
Bifrost From Your Shield ? You probably used the Glaive of Dodher Relic 🤔
You most likely equipped the relic and Pressed “L1+O” to trigger it
@@Djisso for real no,you know how in the 4th part you can parry the anime shot and shoot it from the shield?this is what happened but without the enemy hitting you
Oh 😓
With the shatter star shield, you don’t need to parry to release the stored energy. All you gotta do is move around and it will release it
But since you mentioned Bifrost…is it possible that you are using the Rond of Obliteration ? 🤔
@@Djisso look, i know that i don't need to parry with this shield, but i meant the animation that i saw when firing bifrost as same as guardian shield.
And about the rond of ......, I don't remember it's name but it's like a lion face with fiery or orange eyes, and you can get it from GNA the queen Valkyrie.
@@Opt_Hamster yep, that’s the rond of obliteration
You didn’t know how to use shatterred star shield exactly lol
It can almost parry all moves include the red ring
All you need is shield bash when the attack comes
Your missing one element *Dragon Scale Armor... changes how these shields can perform. I still prefer the Dauntless but if you happen to need the Vit, Def, Str, etc and don't want to sacrifice any other slot... you can make some crazy builds. For the Onslaught you can use some "Hold block" Rond attachments and now you have a running shield that does huge AoE w/ the invul charging attribute... I agree on Dauntless being the best, but w/ the others you can combine attachments and sigil skills to perform unique encounters... (btw does anyone miss the ability to hold R1 and have the shield while barehanded do the circle sweep? --This happens if climbing a ledge and holding block in GOW Ragnarok)
Dauntless is the worst in the game. Tied for shortest Shield Strike range. YOU HAVE TO Parry. The Charge on the Shield goes away the fastest.
I particularlly dislike the new shields in this game.
In order to make some shields work they made mobs for them, so if you are not using one shield for one mob the game kinds feels off.
Most difficult enemies get multiple hit attacks so the Wall Shield is perfect for them. If you try to use the Parry shield those enemies become hell on earth.
On top of that, fo make sure the Round shield get invicibility after a parry and that is what makes it special, the parry shield gets nothing. Extra Stun damage on this game where Stun damage is nerfed, means close to nothing.
That say, the Wall shield is broken. you can block yellow attacks and as a reward for that you get a AOE as a "get off me" move, it makes the game Easier. i'm not ven joking.
The Dautless Shield has ton's of Stun, but In this game stun is only good after you finish the game.
The Round Shiel for me is the best shield only because you have a short invicibility after a parry.
I'm testing a poison/shield build and i'll test the Dautless to see if the stun damage helps, but they need to make Stun damage or Grabs WAY better to make the Dautless shield good
the stonewall is my favorite
