  • Here we have quick comparison between the Soyuz microphones 013 Fet, the Dpa microphones 2011c, and the Neumann km184 using a Martin X series guitar as a source.
    All of the microphones were placed side by side and were run through an api 3124 into an Orion 32 interface tracked through pro tools. All microphones were level matched through the preamp. No processing or eq.

    The lows are cut on the Neumann on the first take for some reason... Anyhow, to sum up what I hear:
    Neumann = Most Accurate
    DPA = Most Fidelity and Brightest Modern Vibe
    Soyuz = Most Mojo
    I’d say the Neumann is the benchmark being the most even and flat to my ears with great mids. It's a mic you can't go wrong with but maybe at the cost of being a little boring? You can get brighter and more fidelity from the DPA, as it sounds like it has already been eq’d, but at the cost of too much pick attack. Or, you can go warmer and more soulful at the cost of high mid accuracy with the Soyuz, but it does have a sweet vintage vibe. They are all superb microphones and I can find things to appreciate about each of them. The Soyuz lead me to this video but which will become my next SDC Pair!?
    Thanks for making this vid!

    They all sound great! If you ever have a chance to try the Schoeps with mk4 or mk5 capsules. Do it. The best mic I’ve ever tried in this style of mic. I also have KM84 and C451s.. The Schoeps are the best stereo recordings I’ve ever gotten. Flat natural sound with zero noise.

    DPA the best!

    They're suprisingly different, the Neumann being the most forward and mid focused, the DPA being the warmest/melllowest with the most body. And for me, I think the Soyuz had the most balanced presentation with enough woody body, the pitch of the bass notes, and articulation and sparkle on the strumming/high strings. That's how I would like an 000 Martin to sound like. On a record at least, it may be that the Neumann could have been closer to how the guitar sounded. But I'd rather listen to the Soyuz' presentation of it, it's more pleasant. And a vocal could sit better over the Soyuz than the busy mids of the Neumann or less articulate DPA.

    DPA picks up all the warmth that I want to hear in an acoustic guitar recording

    Its amazing how different the Soyuz and Neumann are... really depends on the mix. I feel like the Neumann is better for a thicker mix that has a lot of other instrumentation in it, while the Soyuz is better for more singer/songwriter laid back mixes.

    Wanna buy soyuz 013, do you think its necessary to get 2 at the same time? Or just for private usage 1 will be fine, and if needed just buy the second later?
    or would it be better to buy a set of oktavas or austrian audio cc8, something like this but as matched stereo?

    do you have any experience with the Oktava MK012? Do they hold a candle to any of these three?

    • @rootedstudios9126
      @rootedstudios9126  2 года назад

      That really all depends on what you want to use these mics for. I will tell you this, the preamps really do make a difference in how these respond.. the neumann and the Soyuz sound amazing pushed through the right preamp

      We still own all of them for options. All of them have their applications and we let our ears determine when it’s time to take one of them out of the box!!!

    I'd say the difference between the DPA and the Neumann is more due to the placement than the mics themselves. Look how far is the 184 from the 2011, being the dpa closer to the hole and the 184 pointed to the middle of the neck... no way.

    essa pequena distancia entre o braço do violao , da muita diferença , mas esse medio grave ai dos outros que o neuman nao tem , é bem melhor pra mix, nao gosto desse som do medio grave no violao!!! Neumann , é o vencedor!!! claro que nessa posiçao que ele ficou!!!
