Sam Wilkes, the bassist, has collaborated with Louis Cole on a number of projects, and it's widely speculated that he's the masked driver in Clowncore's Van videos.
Yay! Been waiting for this one! As far as I'm aware Knower is basically Louis Cole and Genevieve Artadi (who both studied jazz at music school, unsurprisingly) and the other members kind of rotate according to availability. Got to agree about Sam Wilkes on the bass though...he may be one of the most underappreciated musicians on the planet! Also, judging by Louis Cole and Vlad Ulasevich, is it best to study piano if you want to be a kickass drummer?! =) Excellent reaction as always. Thanks JW.
Thanks, David! This was hot! I'm going to be pretty biased, of course. But I've met a few very good drummers that are also decent pianists. The piano is a percussion instrument, after all! 🙂 The bassist was a revelation!
@@RalphBellairs I second this. Just picked one of their songs at random and am absolutely blown away! Can't believe this has been missing in my life lol
when i listened to this i made the stank face so hard i froze time. for 6 years i wandered around in perpetual sunlight surviving on food i found at local supermarkets where the doors were open because someone was walking through. oh and every day for 5 years i slapped my boss :)
Groovey as Hell. We will not confirm anyone here is from Clown Core until I've completed the Stool comparison from these individuals to the sample we've collected at various Clown sighting locations. We also have a bass guitar by which to compare DNA samples with as a backup.
These guys.......they kill me. man. :-) My dog was barking at your dog. Sgt Duck says hello! Louis does the video editing and production. He's quite a talented guy. Love his stuff.
I love your reactions. You're the only person I've been able to watch who pauses for meaningful insight rather than filler. Thanks! You've got my sub buddy.
My suggestion would be to check out “Time Traveler” It goes a completely different direction (electronica) but the syncopation is insane, and it’s just Louis on a triggering pad of some type and Genevieve.
Not sure it's worth a reaction vid, but definitely watch The Government Knows and When You're Ugly. Great vids and songs, but not the face-melting experience that Overtime is. This is a fantastic song on just about every dimension.
you know something magical is happening in a live performance when when a musician actually says "WOW" to their own playing. i think that bassist was "feeling it" more than he ever has. or at least in a long while
Dude your reaction videos are the best you need to do more clown core. So satisfying to see a legit musician with good taste and a sense of humor make his way through good material. Liked and subscribed brother!
its extremely interesting that you mentioned MJ in this video, Knower actually wrote Overtime intending to sell it to Janet! it wasn't picked up, and they absorbed it into their own catalogue instead.
You really should do a super reaction of the last two new songs from their album "Knower Forever", those songs being "The Abyss" and "Do Hot Girls Like Chords?". Do them in one video back to back, I think you will love it. Same style, as in live in "some guys house", and one of them features Sam Wilkes and the other MonoNeon...which is a totally different journey!
I think the biggest vocal influence is Syreeta. She was a back up singer and onetime wife of Stevie Wonder. She released several solo recordings, in the late 70s/early 80s. A fantastic artist.

Always a pleasure to watch your reactions/analysis, because it's always something unusual (in a good way). Thanks! Would be interesting to see your opinion on this one: ARCHSPIRE - "Drone Corpse Aviator". The vocals are, well... weird :D But the music itself and the technicality of how it's preformed is worth attention. Peace!
I'll add a +1 for F It Up (Live Sesh) by Louis Cole and also throw in Thinking (Live Sesh) by Louis Cole. The whole orbit of musicians around theses groups is remarkable in its depth. Genevieve and Louis are great, but they throw in what's supposed to be a "backing group" for this track and they are all equally world beating musicians in their own right. Then they step up to the F It Up/Thinking session and more musicians are added but, again, no slouches whatsoever. Every one of them is at the absolute pinnacle of the instrument they play. It's unbelievable.
any of the other live session songs they have on their youtube would be great ones to react to! Time Traveler is with these same five musicians if you want more of this chemistry, but from the way you seem to appreciate the musicianship in general I think you'll probably be into any of their songs!
I love all the metal reactions ESPECIALLY GOJIRA... and even this. But I also think you would like and respect "rita is gone" by the Marcus King Band. (Live Jam in the Van Texas) 🔥🔥🔥
One thing I absolutely love about Louis Cole and Knower is they're apparently they're not interested in sticking to a click tempo, compare the beginning of the song to the end and you'll see that there's a nice pick up there in tempo, very human. IMHO people who stick to click track tempos are really missing a lot! If you watch live performances, Louis Cole has a great way of bringing the tempo up smoothly in a natural sense and I wonder if he's got any ways of having his sequences that he uses in some live shows follow along because it seems like either he's just pushing the edge or they are following along.
It might be a regional thing, but most Scandinavians (I'm Swedish) and Americans only use the name "clavichord" for the older classical acoustic instrument, and for the modern electric version we use the name "clavinet".
You should check out the government knows by knower. It has " best guilty pleasure song of all time" potential. I've heard of them and haven't been able to listen to anything else pop/funk wise. From a long time self taught musicians perspective, oh my God, this is insane. That keyboard solo is EXACTLY like Herbie Hancocks in chameleon. He's taken notes from his book absolutely. It's beautiful.
Great analysis and reaction! Please check out Knower‘s latest singles like I‘m The President, Do Hot Girls Like Chords or The Abyss. The whole album is an absolute must listen and my favorite of 2023. Some songs even have very distinct Clown Core influences. I am sure you’ll love it.
Knower has a new album out, you *have* to react to ‘Do hot girls like chords’. If you liked Sam Wilkes’ bass playing on Overtime, well… And the song is closer to Clown Core territory and it has a guitar solo! Seriously, you will not be sorry.
You mentioned that sometimes very talented musicians tend to go overboard on the solo. Check out "Mean It - Louis Cole (ft. Sam Gendel)" here on RUclips. It's pretty much the definition of that. Both Louis and Sam go overboard and it's crazy. Would like to hear your thoughts on it too!
Miserable shirt :) The revisit of Turn Loose The Swans is worth your time if you havent checked it - good comments over the tracks etc gives you and idea on the band where they were, what the songs are about etc. Another vote for F it up by Louis Cole - blew me away when I first seen it.
Thanks, I must check that out! I used to play in a band with a guy who practiced in the same rehearsal space as MDB way back before they were famous. He said when you walked into the rehearsal room after they'd been there it was reeking of incense and had candle wax dripped all over the guitar amps. Lol. Brilliant!
It's Louis himself that does the videos. Like he wasn't talented enough with the musicianship alone. edit: and yeah Sam Wilkes the bassist is up there with the best.
🎵🎸Moody, atmospheric, instrumental, one-man-band prog? Right this way 👇

Thanks for giving some love to Sam Wilkes, I think he's absolutely fantastic on the bass. True musicians all around.
He's absolutely ridiculous. I first saw him on the "F it Up" video and it's just insane how good he is on that...
Without a doubt, the next video to watch is "F it up - Louis Cole (Live Sesh)"
We are waiting for it !!

Thanks for the Arch Echo tip. I just listened to the song you recommended and immediately subbed to their channel.
that's funky at its best.......... thanx + greetings my friend and have a nice sunday evening
thank you, man! And you too. Good to see you!
Glad you had a chance to check this one out, one of the finest performances from Knower. Thanks for the reactions 👍

I get mad Jordan Rudess vibes from Rai during his solo
12:26 Since you asked and it's been a while, i suggest 2 brand new Knower songs; The Abyss & I'm the President
I would add It's All Nothing Until It's Everything to that list

Wow! That's some interesting trivia right there! I can totally see why they might have wanted to do that!
No wonder Genevieve's vocals sound like that

Glad I'm not the only who thought Genevieve was channeling her inner Michael during this performance. All those vocal pops and squeaks haha
To me, the squeaks are more reminiscent of Dale Bozzio from Missing Persons

Both the sad solo and the keys solo go off into their own keys for no good reason other than ‘we got the skills’
