All of those you mention...But not Jacob for me...I appreciate the harmonic knowledge, but he doesn't move me, and I can't listen to his singing. I've tried I really have, and I know musicians who i respect who think he's great not grate...
The live sesh (in a house again!) of F It Up is great. All those songs are great, but F it up has that . . . well I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but my first time listening, it knocked me over. You know the part I’m talking about?
Basically, your reaction on first hearing was like mine. WTF???!!! I’m 73years young ex-Muso and, until I somehow stumbled onto Knower (thank you algorithm) I thought that nothing would grab my attention after converting to the Snarky Puppy cult. I thought that SP had taken it as far as it was possible to go. Well, I was so wrong. {Louis & Genevieve (Knower) actually did a couple of songs with SP for the “Family Dinner” albums.} … I was predominantly a bass player and Jaco was my role model but Sam Wilkes has taken bass to another level, Jaco riffs, funk, whatever. He is one phenomenal player. Let’s face it, the whole band is phenomenal. Oh, and Rai Thistlethwaite on keyboards … Corey Henry who? Rai is a fellow Aussie and I’d never heard of him until Knower.
Dude, even if you don't 'react' to much more of Knower or Louis Cole, you most certainly need to keep digging thru their stuff. They're real as hell. Louis is a fantastic drummer, and his keybass playing is world class. Enjoy!
Great reaction man, felt like I was watching the video for the first time (instead of like the 100th!) I felt exactly the same when I came across Knower and this song. Now I'm way deep and it's all amazing!
Knower predate Vulfpeck and come from California. Though just like Vulfpeck this is just one of the many groups the members are a part of. Luis Cole and Sam Gendel have a more extreme Avant-garde duo called Clown Core (ClownC0re on youtube).
Where did this come from? Also I think I sent you some Brecker Brothers to listen to… let me know what you think. Dude, so I just looked them up.. there’s a lot of California Jazz school pedigree here… why do you youngsters worry so much about genre? That’s an ITunes thing… but if you have to, you can label it Jazz Fusion.. they’ve been doing things since 2010 and I’VE NEVER HEARD THEM OR OF THEM BEFORE… Wild!
The group is called Knower and the song is 'Overtime'. Check them out, their studio albums often feature more keys and bass programming and essentially feature composer/singer/multi instrumentalist Louis Cole and main vocalist Genevieve Artadi as a Duo....but their live show most often feature this full line up. Also check out Louis Cole's many great solo records, he just released his most recent one, 'Quality Over Opinion', a great album, well worth checking out.
What makes them all the cooler, minus how great musicians they are, is how down to Earth they are. They did a free show in Seattle because Louis had family here, and after they carried all their own equipment into the place Geneviève sat down and talked to my buddy and I at the bar for like 5 minutes before they played. She was sick as shit but still got through the whole thing
Louis Cole (the drummer) is a genius... like, this generation's Frank Zappa level genius. Definitely check out his big band stuff... ruclips.net/video/m1L-xETdqGw/видео.html
Wow…..they sound ready to take on Billy Cobham’s album Spectrum. Jazz fusion perfection! I was wishing for a vocalist with more grit and less babydoll sound ( yeah she’s highly proficient, but her timbre for this is too poppy in my opinion) But if they do t yet have a record contract, they should! They should be out on tour!
You HAD to, didn't you. The first Time in 50(?) years I haven't heard the song played, or even mentioned....... And you did it!!!! 😜 I almost got away from George Michael as well. (Heard that in a shop yesterday)
Knower are one of those bands/musicians like Dirty Loops, Jacob Collier, Snarky Puppy have really lit up RUclips in the last five or six years.
Facts 💯
All of those you mention...But not Jacob for me...I appreciate the harmonic knowledge, but he doesn't move me, and I can't listen to his singing. I've tried I really have, and I know musicians who i respect who think he's great not grate...
Edit: The group is called Knower. The song is called Overtime.
🙂
When you see Knower live, you can almost guarentee 99% of the audience are also musicians. Incredible talents... Cole, Genevieve, all of them.
clowncore next then?
Knower Knows!!! Check out Louis Cole (the drummer) solo also. " F it Up". Also "The Government Knows"
And Weird Part of the Night
Don't forget ClownCore!

Sometimes musicians perform for an audience. Sometimes they play for the music.

🤯Oh my God - that was OUTSTANDING!!😃🤙🏻
Genre - Progressive Jazz/Funk…? Whatever it is it is totally cool!
F it up - Louis Cole (Live Sesh) ruclips.net/video/IxEIQQkhyeI/видео.html If you liked Overtime, wait til you see this one.

From the save "live sesh" try Time Traveller. Cole is really a jazz drummer at heart. Another good KNOWER track is Hanging On

Knower is a unique band. Unique! And i hope they never stop!
Genevieve and Louis are so fucking good.
Yes. Check Dirty Loops. Try "Next To You" or "World on Fire". Then you can graduate to "Work Shit Out"
yeah, they're fun.
There's a splash of Vulfpeck in there as well.

Geneveve is a killer.
😊👍
Check out Louis Cole. Our modern version of Marcel Duchamps.
Chod: Please react to SLADE's "MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY". A favourite Christmas song here in the UK. 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
You HAD to, didn't you.

Chod here's acouple for you Tim Buckley Sweet Surrender or Lee Michaels Heighty Hi thanks
Genevieve on vocals is kinda unfair to have in your band. She teaches vocals at Musicians Institute in Hollywood.
