    It's wild that this setting is so hidden/undocumented since it's arguably the most valuable SQ feature on this deck.

    Please UPDATE the DDX9905S Software to ADD this 3-way Crossover feature, and to FIX the displayed USB file playback text display that shows the wrong file/song info when the head unit and/or vehicle is turned off and then back on again (the display screen shows a different song title than what is actually being played)!
    Also would REALLY appreciate SMALLER FONT or TEXT of the Artist/Album/Track info and CONTINUOUS + Faster SCROLLING of long Album/Artist/Track names on the DDX9905S & DNX995S!
    Thanks Seth!

    I just found out that the ddx794 doesn't have a LPF on the mids or no 3 way crossover. Im trying to upgrade from my old single din HU the x891 but the x891 would cut highs out the Mids in the doors...the ddx794 doesn't do this. If I get a radio with 3 way crossover and LPF on my Mids Component Set, will that cut out the highs? Playing full pass through my mids is burning out my coils and it sounds like junk.

    Ok question about using the 3 way active feature. Could I run the front stage 3way off the rca outputs for my tweeter, midrange, midbass and then to tie it all together (assuming the amp doesn’t clip early from the high level outputs) I can then attach some 6x9 or rear fill off the rear speaker wires ??? Basically wondering if it’s doable since I’m already using up all 6 channels off my amp and if I could use the deck power for the rear stage that would keep it more simple for the time being instead of adding another complete amp 😢

  • @jeffh2125
    @jeffh2125 2 года назад +2

    This definitely should be a hidden feature since enabling it can damage typical speaker configuration in typical audio configurations. If you're unfamiliar with these terms "Active Crossover" and "Front Stage", then you should not touch this feature. It requires different wiring configuration than is normal and if you do enable it on a typical configuration, you could indeed blow your speakers or damage your head unit. It is very sad that Kenwood doesn't show examples of this configuration in their manuals. The same is true for Alpine amps. They don't bother showing what the channels 3 and 4 Filter setting at "BP" or bandpass can do for you. Really sad that just just a slight effort on the part of these manufacturers would be so helpful, but they don't bother to even explain how their products work.

      @@KenwoodUSA Thanks. I was actually confirming that you did it right. 3-way network definitely should not be very straight forward to get into or enable. I really like my Excelon DMX907S by the way. HOWEVER, since I have your attention... :-) I wish you all had put some examples in the manual for setting X'over values and also for setting up the 3-way network. There needs to be better explanation in general. It's so typical of these types of manuals. Actually, I wish you had a context sensitive help feature. I mean, you have a great display that you could display graphics on and textual help. Memory is cheap. Anyway, just my two cents... Thank you for responding.

    Hey Kenwood, I have a DDX 9906 XR, I’m going to be doing a three-way speaker system upfront with no rear speakers, so how would I hook up the wires for three-way? Do I put the front left and right to the tweeters and the rear wires to the mids? And what about midbass speakers, wouldn’t you need a total of 6 channels for a stereo 3-way set up?

    • @KenwoodUSA
      @KenwoodUSA  7 месяцев назад

      Using 3-Way Mode via the receiver requires installation and setup with a separate amplifier to power each set of speakers, one channel runs tweeters, one channel runs mids, and one channel runs subs. When the receiver is in the 3-Way mode it converts the RCA output from a Front/Rear/Sub configuration into a High/Mid/Low configuration for output to an amplifier. You do not use the speaker output connections from the receiver amplifier. Thanks!

      @@josea.garcia3994 Please reference the message NOTE in the introduction of the video for the limitations (eg. Zone Control is disabled etc.). A 3-way crossover setup should only be used when connecting 3-way speakers (3 independent speakers: woofer, midrange, tweeter) and only depending upon how the amplifier/installation wiring has been connected. @KENWOODUSA
    OH...WAIT! You lose the Digital Time Alignment features when switching to 3-way Crossover Mode! Sorry, that's a huge FAIL, Kenwood. :-/
    While the XR units are some of the best Double-DIN head units on the market, many features, usability, and especially the Graphic Design are still sorely lacking.
    After owning and using the DDX9905S since its release, about the only reason I'd choose a Kenwood XR again over the competition is for the better DISPLAY Resolution & Quality. SQ is excellent, but so are many other brands.
    Can Kenwood even figure out how to show Album Artwork on the HU Display when using Bluetooth Streaming from a Smartphone (not when using Android Auto or CarPlay)?
    And since these are a top of the line "XR" and "Hi-Res" head units, the Bluetooth should support high-quality APT-X & *APT-X HD* streaming!!!
    And that placeholder Album Art "blue & purple shattered/exploding glass" Graphic that is displayed when there is no album art metadata (or when it doesn't show at all when using Bluetooth streaming) looks so so dated, like from Y2K or even 1980's.
    And unfortunately you can't hide it when on the home screen or widget screens. :-/ It's seriously Fugly.
    The Artist/Album/Track info Metadata Text is still WAY TOO BIG. AND, you need to have a setting that allows the Text to AUTOMATICALLY and CONTINUOUSLY Scroll all of the Song Info! ...
    Currently, users must take their eyes off the road and perform multiple small on-screen button presses just to see longer names in the Album/Artist/Track info display. :/
    The Text Scrolling of the Artist/Album/Track titles are Way Too Slow...we have to keep our eyes off the road way too long to read it for long titles! ...So you end up pressing that Tiny Arrow icon 2 or 3 times in order to scroll the text and read ALL of the info. :-/ Oh, and it's not just classical music titles that have long metadata tags.
    USB Source: There is NO WAY to Shuffle Play my ENTIRE Music Collection from a USB storage drive. It will only Shuffle Play or "Random Play" the tracks that are contained WITHIN A SINGLE FOLDER. :-/ FAIL
    When using the USB Source playback, the Song or Track that is displayed on the screen when turning the vehicle Off & On again is often not displaying the Actual Track that is currently playing.
    The Bit Depth & Sample Rate are only displayed for 24 bit Hi-Res Files, and it does not display the File FORMAT for ALL types of files...
    I would like to have the display ALWAYS SHOW the Bit Depth, Sample Rate, and File Type for ALL Files that are played, even if they are not Hi-Res. i.e. "16/44.1 WAV", "16/44.1 MP3 or AAC", "24/96 FLAC", "24/192 WAV", etc.
    You also really need to support playback of the *Apple Lossless* Audio Codec (ALAC .m4a files) via the USB source! Many people that are into "Hi-Res" music also have iPhones and therefore use Apple Lossless files! But this "most popular" format is missing on these supposedly High-End "XR" head units! WTH?
    And you know what would REALLY BE AWESOME? Make an optional, small, mountable *Remote Volume KNOB* that would control *Volume, Mute, AND Subwoofer Level* via a simple connection to the SWC input jack. A small, two-in-one knob solution something like the *JL Audio DRC-205 Remote* would be AWESOME.
    (2018 top of the line "XR" DDX-9905S head unit)...There are still a few usability/functionality bits that are not working properly on these units, and it could use some Major GUI updates as well... *Even After the latest Update shown below*
    Thanks for your time and interest.
    *EDIT: There is a new Software/Firmware Update for the 2018 DDX9905S as of April 19, 2019*

    So when in 3-way mode you lose the time alignment feature?

    • @KenwoodUSA
      @KenwoodUSA  3 года назад

      3-way mode is considered a pro tuning tool for a particular speaker staging setup where you divide up speakers in High/Mid/Low-frequency ranges. it changes how the speaker system is configured to match that type of setup, where time alignment would not be used. The 3-way setup would consist of the separate tweeter, separate midbass, and separate woofer channels and tuning would be completely different from a typical vehicle setup with front speakers, rear speakers, and a subwoofer. Thanks!

    • @KenwoodUSA
      @KenwoodUSA  3 года назад +1

      @@Moneys169 the 3 Way Crossover is not designed for connection with speaker outputs. It's made for direct connection with Amplifiers via the RCA only. As mentioned, this is for a more "advanced" system design involving up to 3 separate amplifiers (or Channels), each dedicated to different sound stages, High, Mid, Low (high pass, bandpass, low pass)
      As an example, If you have a 5 channel amp:
      You would connect the tweeters on one pair of 2ch RCA inputs as "High." (high pass)
      You would connect a 6" speaker on the 2nd set of 2ch RCA input as "Mid" (bandpass)
      You would connect the Subwoofer to the last 2ch (or Mono) RCA input as "Low" (lowpass)
      This style of tuning allows for direct control over each "size" speaker (Tweeter, Midbass, Subwoofer) without using a passive crossover to divide sound.
