    pull the trigger on the Yak, I got mine last christmas and have since bought a second for friends and family to use with me along with adding multiple attachments and gear to make my fishing better. I would say it is a happy medium from bank fishing and fishing from a boat. You are under your own power in a Kayak but have more ability to fish hard to reach places in a quicker amount of time.

    • @JonBrollin
      @JonBrollin  7 лет назад +6

      I think I might have to do it man. Yaks can slip into to waters that big boats cannot.

      I just picked up my first kayak (Jackson Kilroy) last weekend. Then the weather went to shit and we're in the 30's and low 40º's... I'll get out there soon

      Jon B definitely get the kayak. Kayak fishing beats off-shore and boat fishing by long run.

    If you're thinking about investing in a kayak, I highly recommend looking at a Hobie. A little on the expensive side, but they're unreal for fishing.

      Cutthroat Fishing lol Kayak fishing is so much better for me tbh, I have found so many cool locations on lakes that I can get out and explore, and you can really get to anywheres on the lake unlike with a boat

    If you do buy a kayak, I would recommend investing in a Kayak Paddle Taco Grip they are like $5 and super easy to install. They clip the paddle down so that it is out of the way which is great for fishing.

    Its funny ive just bought a gopro this winter to do some more shooting this year of my buddies and I mountain biking.. stoked to get a bunch of edits going this year and get a better grasp on the editing and learn how to get more creative shots and angles that kind of stuff. The gopro for me was a cheaper option than a fisheye or wide angle lens for my Nikon d5100, and of course allows for povs, which ill be using for fishing as well this summer of course some chesty action on the boat.

  • @KenWoodFishing
    @KenWoodFishing 7 лет назад

    Buy one! Kayak fishing can absolutely be as fun as fishing from a bass boat if you fish places where you can't get to in a bigger boat. It's great being able to haul ass up and down a lake, fishing different cover/structure and so forth, but paddling a kayak into some backwater pond in the middle of a swamp can be just as rewarding. Sometimes even more rewarding.

    Hey Jon: about getting/using your own KAYAK: choose one that weighs 55 lbs or less: it can get you into launch sites and shallow water bass that are inaccessible by truck/trailer/boat/ramp. I've used a Tarpon 100 for 6 years that way, I'd say it's perfect for any angler under 180 lbs.

  • @fred4outdoors620
    @fred4outdoors620 7 лет назад +9

    I used to sell kayaks. Personally, the best I've ever come across is sold by Dicks Sporting Goods. They have several models that are made for stability. Several models are build for high-sitting and standing but the downside is that they are super heavy (100pounds). If you are looking for a kayak that is super light, buy a "sit-on-top" model. Make sure that it's floatation is at least 1.3 times your actual weight

    I appreciate how genuine Jon is. He caught that tank then estimated it to be 6-7lbs and turned out to be 8lbs. Unlike Peric who yells "OOHH MY GOSHH IT'S A 5 OR 6!!!! OR 7!!! OH MY GOSHHH" and when he goes to put it on a scale, it's a fat belly 3 pounder. So now, whenever I watch Peric, I have this habit to half whatever Peric's estimates are, especially the ones that got off. So yeh.. Great job Jon!

      my advice is rent or borrow a couple of kayaks before buying one. there are a lot of different types out there and they are not created equal. I've been yak fishing for a decade now and i'm on my 3rd kayak. finally got it right last time, I bought a lure 13.5 from Austin canoe and kayak. I can step off the dock onto the boat with zero problems, as well as stand and fish for hours. bad news is the price, but you, like myself, can work up to it. good luck!

    Having a kayak changes everything. There are so many opportunities in north Texas for kayaking. The problem is finding the right kayak for you. With so many selections now it gets a little crazy. I'm still leaning towards the Hobie 14 maybe the 2 man 17. It's so big. I know they have a problem team based here in North Texas and a mariner sails in Dallas sponsors 30 miles out. Old Town has a new pedal drive kayak thats supposed to be good. there's a place in North Richland Hills that sells native kayaks.

    Jon b look into a wilderness Systems ATAK 120 or a radar 115. Both have great options for customizability and are great fishing yaks. the radar also has the option to add a pedal drive system later this month. Come up to Idaho and I can put you on some great small mouth places as well as trout places

    You guys should go to Dale Hollow Lake. It runs into Kentucky and Tennessee both. Walleye have been running for a couple of weeks and people have been catching smallmouth with eggs up in the rivers that run into the lake so...Try it out and get some footage. God bless and love the content man!!!

    Jon I highly suggest that you should buy a kayak before a boat. Although a boat mat seem so much more ideal, kayaks are more fun and always an adventure. Plus, with a kayak you can hike in and fish more remote lakes, creeks, etc.

    Is it a pain fishing on a kayak? I'm thinking about getting one but a little leery about it. What's your take on it?

    Jackson Coosa HD. Perfect all arounder. can hit this small creeks that you like to fish for smallies. can have an open floor of you want to fly fish. no pedal drive so you don't need to worry about weeds or shallow water

    Notice the green scale that is used sitting on top of the kayak, however he's hanging the fish over the side in the water. Nice little trick to add water weight prior to a weighing. This is why the BASS Masters switch to bags for the weigh in....back in the day they would bring them to the stage in tubs of water then the fisherman would pull out the bass to ensure water was forced to its belly adding weight.

    In your vlog yesterday you said you were thinking about a boat. Have you thought about a good fishing kayak like a Hobie that has a hands free system. you seem to like small water and really being close to the fish and that is one of the best ways.

    Dude absolutely invest in a kayak. Kayak fishing is my favorite type. You can get to places bigger boats can't, it's fun and relatively easy to rig it up with gear for fishing and filming, it's easy to get away to quiet places, it's definitely worth it in my opinion. One word of advice, though, is that I tend to do better on my kayak with shorter (6'6"-7') rods for better accuracy while sitting down and they have at least a little less i have to worry about getting caught in the trees.

    Jon, Must come out to California and fish, Clearlake, Stockton Delta. I have half dozen over 8 and PB is 9.6
    I don't fish near as much as you.. You would snag a 10lber with the amount of time you put in.

    love kayak fishing. it just takes a little getting used to. all of my biggest fish come when I'm in the kayak. I think it sneaks up on them better than a boat

    personally recommend the fs12t or fs128t for the budget minded or if the money aint an issue the jackson big rig like flukemaster uses. only time i use my hobie is if my doin some light offshore stuff when i go to the beach on semi calm days. all of which arent hard to stand in.
