- Peter Allen and Olivia Newton-John presenting the Grammy Award for Song of the Year to Christopher Cross for his song "Sailing" in 1981. Poor Olivia could barely get a word in while Peter talked away!😄 Christopher Cross made Grammy history when he won the "Big Four" (Album, Record, and Song of the Year, and Best New Artist) at the Grammys that year. He was the only artist to achieve that feat until Billie Eilish made the “Big Four” Grammy sweep in 2020. The great thing about Christopher Cross (other than his beautiful songs) is how modest he is, especially in his award speeches. It's like has no idea how good he is!

I think the video disappeared because I haven't seen this clip anywhere online. I'm surprised none of the Olivia dedicated channels had it. Maybe they did, but it was taken down or deleted for some reason. Thanks for your nice comment!😊

There was another clip of the guests entering RCH' from this broadcast/gone. I adore ON'J & she should hv won for "Magic" that year. There was another Grammies out there from March 79?, honoring 1978. Such difft. days! Music had melodies. John Denver hosting in a tux, singing a medley of the "Songs of the Year" nominees. He came down from the stage to Olivia & sang the "Once, Twice, 3x a Lady" portion. It's all so different now. Goes without saying, Peter Allen, ( RIP) deserved more than a few Grammy nods. At least he had his Oscar! Can you imagine a "friend", Carole Bayer Sager, actually! offering Peter $40K to take his name off of "Arthur's Theme", as Bacharach feared "4 on a Song" wld tank them? Such ugly behavior from "friends'. Bravo to Peter for saying no & for writing such a great hook/chorus & taking home the statue. He's sadly missed! These seem like yesterday, but it's been 40 years. Amazing, (& somewhat scary 🙃 !).
I know what you mean! Yes, Carole and Peter wrote the originally titled song, "The Moon and New York City" in 1976, but only kept one line for Arthur's Theme". I'm glad he stood his ground, too, because that Oscar brought him more jobs and more recognition.

Peter made a demo of the song and somehow the demo made its way to Olivia Newton-John's producer John Farrar who played it to Olivia. She loved the song and the rest is history!
