The 80’s were by far the BEST years EVER and these famous sounds have be resurrected to perfection
Appreciate the kind words - it was a labor of love! 😁
@@JimDaneker I’d love to just be able to chat with you about how you programmed these, I had a DX7 synth and could t find any cartridges nor could even figure out program FM synthesisp
I wish the 80s was brought back for the modern era
FM takes a lot of work. I heard Brian Eno became an expert at it.
Phenomenal montage of 80’s sounds, well done sir!!!!
Thank you! 😁👊🏻
this is the most insane product demo I've ever seen - insane sounds !!!
Ha - thank you! It was a labor of love and I’m so glad for people to be able to experience these sounds for themselves 😁
I've listened to this video for approximately 4 hours total 😍😍😍Coming back for more today!
Such great songs aren’t they?! Where are those kinds of iconic songs TODAY???
Absolute thrillers! The best Must have sounds. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
Ahh the good old 80s, it's pure emotion. The best era of music.....
YES 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Jim, just watched/listened to your demo video… I have no words. You have done something NO other human has ever done. Do you realize that? NO ONE. It’s like you are the Beethoven of the synth world! Even Eric Persing or Pete James will be impressed and “proud” of you. You are truly gifted and have offered your gifting to the world (not just us fellow believers). All of us that know you need to BLOW THIS UP on the internet. I don’t care if I get in trouble, I’m going to post this on every possible website I can. 😊 Love you, praying for you, and honored to know you call ME your friend. Ha ha. I love my Blair Masters Signature Grand on Back Stage Pass and because I have always been SO picky and NEVER happy with my electronic piano patches, the fact that I AM now, is amazing. I am currently separated from my wife at this time and the only true time of relief from the pain is when I’m playing worship music. It is wonderful because I think of you ALL the time. You are forever on my mind when I play the instrument YOU (and Blair) gave me to use. Praising God, but honoring you for this. Thank you Jim.
Thanks so much for the kind words and encouragement Bobby!
Totally killed it! Congrats on seeing this come to life!
Sensational Jim!
What a treat to hear those tracks anew with the twist of DX Dreams. Just a time capsule of great tracks I loved during my 20's experiencing music in the 80's. BRAVO!
Thanks Tony!
Spot on! Enjoyed the soundscapes and performances! Can appreciate the time and dedication put into this. Impressive
Thanks so much!
God I want an old DX7 so bad. I wasn’t around in the 80s but y’all had the absolute best sounding synths
It was magical time, for sure. Thing is, a DX7 by itself is really disappointing when these are the sounds you’re expecting: most of these are multiple DX7’s layered and processed through the effects of the time. That was the focus of the DX Dreams virtual instrument - to give you all these iconic sounds 😁
So good Jim! Congrats on the release!
Ahhhh Man, now I have to go listen to Rosanna
That's a good problem to have 😁👊🏻
Exciting collection Jim, totally awesome! Congrats! :D
Thanks so much Espen - means a lot coming from you!
Dude, it blow my mind, those are some of my favorite intros, you totally nailed it!!
Holy freaking.... I'm speechless bro. Incredible sounds, incredible playing, fantastic capture of the vibe, not just the notes, of these songs. Well done!
Ha - thanks so much for the kind words! So glad when someone enjoys those tunes as much as I do!
Unbelievable! Your custom created sounds are spot on. Without watching the video I thought I was listening to the isolated synth/keyboard sounds from the actual recordings. Phenomenal Jim!
Thank you so much - that means more than you can imagine!
At last!! Bought and downloading now :)
YESSSSS!!! Dude, Most impressive!! Praise God!!
The next best thing to living in the 80’s! Great job, Jim! Classic.
Thanks my friend!
Man, I just gotta say you recreated those popular 80s jams from every popular artists your way coming from a guy like me that lived throughout the whole decade
Very excellent ☺️👍🏾
Thanks much! It was definitely a love letter to my childhood!
@@JimDaneker You're always welcome 🤗
Pamela was spot on ! Great video
Thanks much!

Damn! Steve Porcaro would be proud! This is the first time Ive heard the Pamela lead played to perfection!
Very kind words - thank you! I’m a bit of a stickler for that stuff 😁
@@larswillsen I feel the same way!
Hey Jim! Hope you're doing well. Not only is this an amazing collection of iconic synth patches, but your video tour was super compelling. Congrats on this achievement! Jeff (Cleveland)
Thanks Jeff!
@@JimDaneker When I bought my first keyboard, I had to decide between a DX-7, a Korg M1, or a Kurzweil K1000. I opted for the Kurz because even then, there was nothing like their piano sample. So finally, you're letting me buy that DX!
@@jeffreywahl4238 Love it!
I'm watching a patches demo of a 80s synth collection.
OMG this is brilliant!!
Astonishing
Thank you! It was an astonishing decade for music - just trying to do it justice ❤️
Absolutely mind-blowing !
OMG it's awesome ❤️ really hit a high note with me 😎😳🤩
Thanks Guy!
Freakin’ amazing! I was so enthralled by this demo, at the end I realized I was holding up a lit bic lighter high into the air, of my living room! I have no idea where I got a bic lighter, then again, I have no idea how I got into my living room! 😂 You’ve just got better and better with time!! Love ya Jimbo!!!
Great performance!! 🤘😉👍
Thank you!
Man, your talents need to be out there more! I’m not a huge 80’s fan since I was just a little kid during that decade but I certainly appreciate what you did hear. Incredible!
Thank you for the kind words!
amazing!
Sounds fantastic! Thank you for the nice chat!!!
Thank you Frank!

Nice to have you seen as a guest on Synth Show.

this is so cool dude!! the DX5 and Prophet 5 were my favorites!
Thanks much!
Sounds amazing! Can’t wait to try them out.
Thanks! They're pretty much all in DX Dreams which is out now! Link in the video description ;-)
Hey Jim, DX Dreams Rocks! Did you know you just gave us thousands of $$ of keyboards and thousands of hrs of sampling and mastery? Secrets out now...but thank you for your passionate journey down the best decade of sound ever!
Ha - yeah, kind of a crazy deal isn’t it? I hope it inspires many! Thanks for your kind words - may I have permission to quote you in an ad? ;-)
And I couldn’t agree more… It was the best decade of sound ever!

I like your plan 😁👊🏻
Wow.
Epic! And really good video editing!
Thanks for the kind words!
David Paich and Steve Porcoro from Toto are among my favorites. I can't get over how darn good you play the Toto songs. And your drummer and guitarist do the songs justice too!!

@@Coneman3 thank you so much. And YES 😂
Great job and that was fun to watch🤓thank you
Thanks Dave!
Mate. This is not only as good as I'd hoped - It's unbelieveable! Hope this gets all the recognition it deserves!
P.S. hope you don't get any copyright strikes for being too good ;)
Ha - thanks! Yeah that’s the trick with this one! It’s actually been up for about two weeks and kept private just to see what would happen. So far so good. TOTO claimed theirs of course and rightly so - other than the Top Gun intro, those are the only longer sections...
What a synth collection! I see a TX816.
Yes you do! It took a TX816 to create all the big layered sounds in this collection. 😁
@@JimDaneker I have one but it’s never worked since I bought it many years ago. Needs an overall by a synth specialist
@@Coneman3 It's an amazing piece of gear, but incredibly frustrating to use in the real world. That's one reason I meticulously captured all these iconic sounds from it - so I wouldn't have to deal with the hardware anymore ;-)
Ahh the DX-5...bought one for $200 in '97...wish I had kept it.
Awesome ❤
When i heard the bell at the beginning I thought The Celts by Enya was going to start playing 😅........great video
Ha - thanks!
Dx5 held its own!
Well to be fair, while it's one of the sources I used to create these sounds, many of them come from the big stacked layers of a TX816 (eight DX7s in a rack), among other things. I was mainly using the DX5 as a controller for this video. But yeah, that one was custom tweaked and had an improved output section - it sounded STUNNING, and as a result, DX Dreams really captures magic ;-)
@JimDaneker tx816 that's awesome too....that's my next purchase
WHAT AN AMAZING VIDEO DUUUDE
Thank ya!
Excellent ! 🎹👏😎
AMAZING!!
Thank you my friend 😁👊🏻
All them can be created with Yamaha MODX or MONTAGE
no, they can't. Some of the simpler raw patches can, but they still wouldn't sound the same. DX Dreams is mostly about the big layered sounds of the 80s, and processed with the iconic effects of the time: analog tape, Neve preamps, Roland Dimension D chorus, and AMS RMX16 reverb. Many of these sounds required a fully loaded TX816 along with a custom modified DX5, with all the properly programmed & balanced layers, mixed with those effects combinations, and summed through an analog console.
I've had a Montage since 2017 and I love it, but it's a much cleaner, more modern representation of FM. And finally, many of the "iconic" patches use custom layers of non-DX synths (Roland Jupiter/Juno, Prophet 5, etc.).
So DX Dreams is the *only* way to get all these sounds so meticulously recreated & "80s radio ready". 😁
I can go to bed peacefully now. I got a heave dose of Jim Daneker, Scott Bernard and Scott Williamson. I mean....... Does it get any better than that? :D
Appreciate the kind words, Jeff! It's definitely an honor to make music with those legends!
You're welcome. 😉

@@JimDaneker I just started with the keyboard witch vst could you recomend to download to al least have most of the 80' sounds in the keyboard , I watched this video several times it would be great to reproduce those sounds in my keyboard , sorry my english
@@avolaruruguay4625 if you have a Mac, I would grab a copy of MainStage. It’s only $30 and has THOUSANDS of top quality sounds - plus it gives you the ability to buy expansions like DX Dreams, which are the sounds you’re hearing in this video 😁
@@JimDaneker thanks a lot man for the fast response I will do that , I am watching right now the DX Dreams Walkthrough
Oh yeah!!!!!
HOME RUN!!!!!!!
S.Porcaro/D.Paich 🔥🔥🔥🔥
The masters!
Can I please order a mix tape of all those songs?
Unfortunately I only recreated just the parts in the video, but the idea was to sound exactly like the originals, so you can always hit them up on iTunes! 😁
That. Was. Awesome.
Thanks so much!
if you can't afford all these physical hardware, you can get away with a good DAW such as FL, a mini mpk, and proper VST
That's the whole point of DX Dreams - I meticulously captured and recreated all of this original hardware along with all of the processing we used in the 80s, so that you don't have to spend the fortune on it - all you need is DX Dreams and your preferred DAW. 😁
Shit... The 80s were so alive
And they still are 😁 Check out Arcade Orchestra if you get a chance! Bringing them back in EPIC style 👊🏻
BTW, great to hear there's a PC port coming!
The Kontakt version of DX Dreams dropped last year, and as a Kontakt library, it works anywhere Kontakt works - Mac or PC!
@@JimDaneker sorry. It's easy to forget that videos RUclips recommends to you aren't necessarily new. I missed the video date. Anyway, that's great news.
@@ChristopherGaul no problem whatsoever! ;-)
80's without Depeche Mode, Yahoo, Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, OMD and Soft Cell?
How does one boil down the best decade of music into just one video? I simply will have to do some more 😁
Was waiting the 84's jump VH
That one will be in a major new project I’m announcing next week ;-)
Would love to see you on ProSynthNetwork! A great UK-based weekly podcast job, here on the toob... You would hit it off with these guys bigstyle! Rob Puricelli (presenter) is the biggest 80's FM / old-skool digital man there is! 👍
I’ve been on it twice and have been keeping up with Robbie 😁
@@JimDaneker Oh yeah! Doh! Will seek out your appearances... 👍👍
These sounds are all spot on! Incredible work sir! I wish all these patches were available for the Deepmind 12 😢 It looks like backstage pass is only virtual machines though? 😔
Thank you for the kind words! The reason they are so accurate is that they are meticulously deep-sampled from the original hardware - so there's no way they would work in a synth like the Deepmind, which can only create analog synth sounds.
Yes, all BackStage Pass instruments (like DX Dreams here) are virtual, for use in MainStage, Logic, or Kontakt - which can be used in any DAW, Mac or PC.
Jim!! Beyond incredible but I don’t have MainStage 😂 if you ever port these over to a Yamaha Montage or a Korg Kronos, I’ll be first in the Queue 🥹
Thanks so much for the kind words! They would never work in a hardware synth - they are far too deeply sampled in order to match all the intricacies of the original hardware. It is available for Kontakt though so you can use it in any DAW ;-)
@@JimDaneker I’d best start learning about MainStage then as I’d want to use these sounds in a “live” environment, although means buying a Mac book 😤😤 my band plays a lot of these songs and it would lift it up a notch for sure ☺️👍🏻🎹 friends have told me to get “Gig performer” as some people prefer it over MainStage
@@WayneMusicianUK you certainly can't go wrong either way! I used MainStage for several years to run my shows with Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant - it was rock solid. Lots of major touring acts and Broadway Shows use it as well ;-)
You need Kontakt or UVI Falcon to reach more people..
Hi there - the Kontakt version is finally out. Details at www.backstagepass.store/dxd-k
Man! Why is this Mac only, what's the reasoning behind that? When can I expect to be able to buy a PC version of this? Really soon I hope! 😁
Ha, well it’s a fair question to be sure! The short answer is that it was built for the live performance environment that MainStage offers, and unfortunately MainStage is Mac-only. I wish that weren’t the case! I am working on porting the core sounds to Kontakt so everyone can use it, but that is a massive undertaking, so if it happens, it will be sometime in the next few months. Sadly these sounds don’t translate well into other formats - the Logic/MainStage Sampler is unique in its ability to faithfully recreate these sounds. Stay tuned!
@@JimDaneker Apple are the most selfish company on the planet. Yes I use MacOS for music, as I go back CLab Notator on my 1040 STE.
Update and GOOD NEWS - I’m working on porting all of these libraries to Kontakt so PC users will have access to them too 😁
@@JimDaneker I was so happy seeing this notification on my phone 😁 How nice of you to remember! Please let me know in the same manner when the product is available.

Everything in this video is part of a commercial virtual instrument bundle called DX Dreams. See video description for more info: it’s available now for MainStage and Logic, and coming soon to Kontakt. 😁
