      The problem with this is: It is FAKE. Donna Trump style of fakeism. No depth anymore on overtones. Only volume. Just pick up an original DX7 or download DEXED. Then you experience the whole magic of 6 operators gelling at once.

    This was a great walkthrough. Been obsessed with the DX7 since I was 8. The electric piano sounds always reminded me of sitting in church and listening to a synth based music bed play in the background as our pastor would close off the service. I typically use Dexed which is pretty good also, but I'll have to check DX dreams at some point too. Thanks for taking the time to put this video together, makes me love that DX7 sound just a little bit more!

      Yeah, it’s really something. I’ve experimented for hours with translation to Kontakt, and it just falls apart. Their filter models aren’t nearly as good as the EXS24, and that’s a crucial part of modeling these sounds! It’s a bummer too, because I would love to offer that format as an option!

    Seriously amazing work, man! I rarely use Logic anymore and haven't used Mainstage in a long time, but absolutely am tempted to get this! The DX7 was the first synth I ever played. I still remember walking into my piano teacher's apartment in Tulsa, Oklahoma and seeing her DX7 and being mesmerized EVERY time. God bless that woman...she totally saw my eyes light up every time I came for lesson and would let me play it. She also could tell that I could care less about learning Bach or Motzart and was more interested in learning David Foster and Michael W Smith songs.
    And as soon as you played "Cross of Gold"...I was losing my mind. Change Your World was the first MWS concert I ever saw. I think Audio Adrenaline opened for him. He was using the Korg 01/W and that was a big reason why I decided to make that my first synth.
    Unbelievable work, buddy! Well done!

    Hi Jim
    I have purchased DX Dreams yesterday, and without a doubt, it's the best VST plugin out there. I've compared it to Dexed, and the difference in sound quality is remarkable-it's so pure and clean. I'm thrilled with my purchase and have no regrets whatsoever! The only thing I'm wondering about is that the track icon isn't showing up in either Logic or MainStage. It's not a big deal for me, but it's something I've noticed. Thank you for creating this VST. You're a legend!

    I wish you could make this for Unify using DXed and zero samples. It’s a multi-threaded host and plugin, and you can nest multis within multis. Unify already has a free extended TX816 preset library available.

    • @JimDaneker
      @JimDaneker  2 года назад

      I like Unify a lot, but it’s not for everyone… still not friendly on M1 Macs. And you would still be missing out on a lot of what makes this what it is: the way it was all recorded through the iconic analog processing of the time. It sounds far better than any emulation ever could, and many of the layered sounds were made from up to (12) DX7s playing at a time.

    • @xp50player

      @@xp50player good to hear about the update! Still, I’m afraid this was a once and done deal as far as capturing all these layered sounds. I was after 100% authenticity and playability, and this is the only way that’s ever going to happen with that kind of detail. It took over a year to do - there’s no way I would want to try and do it all again for an end result that wouldn’t be the same. A software emulated TX816 is vastly different than the real thing through 8 Neve preamps & analog tape 😁

      @JimDaneker  3 года назад

      @@DadoSimicStudiostriver yep, I get that. I won’t be able to do much of a test of raw/unprocessed sounds though, as almost all the sounds in DX Dreams were recorded through the processing used in the 80s: analog tape, Roland Dimension D chorus, AMS reverb, etc. - only that first patch is the raw EP sound from an original DX7. Plus many of the sounds are layered from multiple DX’s, like the DX5, TX816, etc.
