  • This video shows you how to check for diagnostic trouble codes / engine fault codes on pre-OBD2 Mazda MX-5 Miata and Eunos Roadster (1990-1995).
If your Miata has a code stored in its ECU / Engine Control Unit / Computer, the engine light or “MIL” Malfunction Indicator Light will flash.
For single digit codes: It will flash quickly. The number of flashes is your code number.
For two digit codes: It will flash and stay on for aprox 2 seconds, followed by a series of quick flashes.
Here is what the flash codes mean:
    1990-1993:
1 Ignition pulse (no igf signal).
    2 No Ne signal.
    3 No G signal.
    8 Airflow meter.
9 Water thermistor / coolant temperature sensor. .
10 Intake air thermistor in airflow meter.
12 Throttle position sensor open or short circuit.
14 Atmospheric pressure sensor (inside the ECU).
    15 Oxygen sensor.
    17 Oxygen sensor.
26 Purge solenoid valve (Evap canister purge valve).
    35 ISC valve.
    1994-1995:
    1 IGF signal.
    3 SGT signal.
    4 SGC signal.
    8 Mass airflow sensor.
    9 Coolant temp sensor.
    10 Intake air temp sensor.
    12 Throttle position sensor.
14 Atmospheric pressure sensor (inside the ECU).
    15 Oxygen sensor.
    16 EGR function sensor.
    17 Oxygen sensor.
    25 PRC solenoid valve.
26 Purge solenoid valve (Evap canister purge valve).
    28 EGR solenoid valve (vacuum).
    29 EGR solenoid valve (vent).
    34 ISC valve.

Having some real trouble depinning the plug since it’s not the same as every other one and I feel like CEL is on due to the plug being ripped (tore literally from the neck of the wire so redoing it is hard)

Hey Miata Man, my 1.8 na miata sometimes engine starts with ticking noise but as it warm up, the noise disappear, Is there any problems with the ticking noise?

    • @MiataMan
      @MiataMan  Год назад +1

It’s your hydraulic lifters (HLA’s) that are ticking. When the oil is low or dirty the noise will be louder.
You may want to consider doing an engine flush next time you change your oil. It will hopefully clean up the HLA’s and reduce the noise on start up.

    • @MiataMan

Could it be one long and four quick flashes (meaning code 14)?

I'm getting error code 1 IGF signal and 26 Purge solenoid valve (Evap canister purge valve). I can't find much info online on the IGF signal error. Can you tell me what I need to replace or how to fix? 1994 Miata, thanks

    • @MiataMan
      @MiataMan  2 года назад +1

The IGF signal code could mean that your igniter is going bad. It’s labeled “Power TR module” and resides on the right side of the engine bay next to the purge valve.
It may also point to a failing crank angle sensor or “CAS”.

    • @MiataMan

It could be a number of things.
      Are you getting any codes?
Like a “no ig signal” code?
      Here are a few ideas:
      -Crank Angle Sensor (CAS).

      -Ignition Coil Pack.

intresting, ok i have an earley 1.8 mx5 no engine light in dash, done the link and led setup, what i get is either 4 flashes or 14, im not sure, it lights up 1 long then another long, then 4 quick, so is it 4 or 14 or is it 1 and then 14 i looked up 4 flashes says it sgt signal, whats that? or if its 14 then atmospheric pressure sensor? now the complicated bit is, the engine is in a dutton kit car built by myself, so a lot of the engine loom was not connected, thimgs like power steering sensor, clutch pedal sensor, purge valve, there just the things i know the mx5 would of had, but not connected in my application. can u help lol... good video good details.
