Man, So Good to see Mark King alive and kicking. I’ve been a Level 42 fan since the early 80s. Awesome bass player , great musician, nice guy. THANKS for dune tune - One of the greatest songs ever written!😊
Yep. Mark's a humble guy, I always cringe at these interviews talking about slap like it's such an alien concept or that it defines the band....but he's so kind, explaining it for the thousandth time 😅
Level 42 live is something you should experience whether you're a big fan of their music or not. Incredibly talented group of musicians and Mark is easily one of the best bass players on the planet.
I have played bass guitar for over 30 years now, and trust me, to play like Mark does, and sing at the same time, just puts him on another page from anyone else. He is a living legend. Total respect to a band that have stood the test of time. I salute you. 👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏
He has been my idol for decades now. Im a bassist and sing as well. I have been so influenced by Mark King. So glad to see this interview. Thank you for all the inspiration Mark King and Level 42
I wish Mark would remember that Level 42 still has fans over here in the states. I've always wanted to see them live but I don't think they've played in the US since 2010, but they only played a few cities, none of which were close to me :(
Fave Band of the 80's. Became a Fan when I heard The sun goes down and was addicted to their music. I've seen em 3 times in concert... they killed it live on stage. Still love this Band.
I’ve been a huge fan of Level 42 since I was a freshman in high school in 1985. The first song I heard was Something About You and I was hooked. I still own the Level 42 cassette tapes I bought back then 😁
Lessons in love is one of the most incredible bass lines ever. I don't know how he can maintain that level of playing through the whole song. Unbelievable.
Just came home tonight from seeing Mark and band at the Philharmonic in Liverpool and what a performance. If your not familier with a lot of their stuff and only come for the hits then ok but funk and jazz enthusiasts would savour the longer slap bass solos .
@markfincher6024 A fan asked him a question about whether he would consider putting a particular song into the set for his tour after this one. His reaction was super negative, saying everyone has an opinion on what songs they should play and he didn't care. He got very anti and borderline angry threatening to get the guy thrown out. His attitude and temperament seems a bit skew whiff to say the least. I enjoyed the set they played though, fantastic musicians.
Undeniably, one of the very best bass guitar players in history! Love Mark's unique style with Level 42 & really enjoyed his years with one of the most underrated bands of the late 20th Century!... Right On Mark!...🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🤜🤛🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟!!!
Mark King and Guy Pratt are real funny guys, talented and always smiling... That's why I really appreciate their music, because of their own personality first !
The man and his band mates have definitely put a smile on my face on many occasions over the years with the great tunes they produced top dollar Brit funk
Fair play - Mark comes across as a seriously good bloke. Fantastic band. Remember seeing them at Wembley arena around 1988-9. Seems like a lifetime away now.
One of the greatest bass players of all times. David Margen from Santana gave me the will to learn bass but Miller, Jaco, Stanley and Mark were my models!
Ive been to six concerts in the late eighties by this incredible band , brilliant jazzfunk outfit .....i have to say their earlier stuff is the best ....their early tapes album is fantastic....
Sadly a lot of people think Level 42 start and finish at Running in the Family. May they carry on gigging for years to come but let's have a few more deep cuts please Mike and Mark :)
@@michaeldean7220 they weren't the same for me when the brothers left , the criticism I hear of the most is that they went too commercialised and started to produce pop music , which I agree with , some of their later work is awful , but I will never forget when I first heard them on my mates gigantic ghetto blaster with love games , always there etc never heard anything like that before and I was hooked .....I remember the time I bought their Pursuit of Accidents LP as soon as it came out ,I was so excited to get back home and play them on my Amstrad stack system hifi unit , with double cassette tape players and graphic equaliser ..... The Early tapes is a masterpiece, I stilllisten to it so often .
Legend!! Thanks for posting. I heard the Early Tapes just when it was released and my head fell off!! Thank you to MK, ML, PG and BG (May you rest in peace, Boon). .. Boon's rhythm and lead playing on Almost There just took my breath away. What a band. What tunes. Superb musicians. Dune Tune is 🔥 🔥 🔥
Mark King is a legend and I love level 42. Saw them last night and they were phenomenal, truly were. BBC presenters are like children’s tv presenters tho it does my head in…that’s all I’ll say.
Great that they are still gigging. However, wish they would mix up the set list a little with a few more deep cuts. I know many people come for the hits but we've heard Running in the Family just a bit too much. There's so much more to them particularly from some of the earlier albums.
Level 42 are the greatest👍🏴
Man, So Good to see Mark King alive and kicking. I’ve been a Level 42 fan since the early 80s. Awesome bass player , great musician, nice guy.
THANKS for dune tune - One of the greatest songs ever written!😊
The Chinese Way is superb, love L42.
Never tired of explaining slapping and the whole history of how things came together. He's such a nice man.
He is isn't he ! Such a really decent funny man ..love love love him ❤❤
He gave a nice message to my pal Phil who was ill. He played with Prince too.
Mark originally was a drummer. Don't need this bbc crap to know his history.
Just Google it 👍
Slap and tickle... Love Mark King. 😂❤💖💋
Yep. Mark's a humble guy, I always cringe at these interviews talking about slap like it's such an alien concept or that it defines the band....but he's so kind, explaining it for the thousandth time 😅

I have played bass guitar for over 30 years now, and trust me, to play like Mark does, and sing at the same time, just puts him on another page from anyone else.
He is a living legend.
Total respect to a band that have stood the test of time.

What a nice guy. Keep on keeping on - live Mark and band.
One of my favorite bands and singers. Im surprised they didn’t get more recognition for their music
LEVEL 42 is national and international TREASURE. that will never go away. Big hug to Mark from an Italian huge fans still now, and my name is Marco!
I wish Mark would remember that Level 42 still has fans over here in the states. I've always wanted to see them live but I don't think they've played in the US since 2010, but they only played a few cities, none of which were close to me :(
They came to Virginia a few years ago at some club but I could not make it plus I thought I would feel out of place.
You do know that you can fly to europe, do you?
Not only still in the States. When you love bass, you know Mark's playing
Make them an offer🎉
They're playing next week in the Netherlands and I'm going :)
Fave Band of the 80's. Became a Fan when I heard The sun goes down and was addicted to their music. I've seen em 3 times in concert... they killed it live on stage. Still love this Band.
I still play the hell out of that first album and will never get sick of it .

Top bloke.
Saw the band in London at the weekend.
Flawless and criminally underrated .
Just came home tonight from seeing Mark and band at the Philharmonic in Liverpool and what a performance. If your not familier with a lot of their stuff and only come for the hits then ok but funk and jazz enthusiasts would savour the longer slap bass solos .
Top bloke. Always finds time for the fans
Short tempered with a fan last week in Glasgow. Quite shocked to see it really. Disappointing.
Really Jonathan. What happened? Really shocked as well

Last saw Level 42 at the Hammersmith Odeon in the 80's (when that was a thing) - awesome.
See many times in France in the 80's, my first bass hero. Love from France.
Mark King and Guy Pratt are real funny guys, talented and always smiling... That's why I really appreciate their music, because of their own personality first !
I have been a fan for over 35 years. Great to see Mark and the band preparing to be back, performing live.
Got to see ‘The Man’ and his band mates in the mid 80s when they stopped by Jakarta, Indonesia. It’s an amazing show!
I introduce their music to kids of today and can't believe how good thier music is. It's so diverse when you think of all of their albums.
Went to see them in the 80s and every time they go on tour since. Hopefully can see them again Now. Great Band
42 is amazing!!
King, Gilmore, Knopfler ...beautiful people and they have meant a lot to me

Something About You is my fav song of theirs.
Still absolutely blasting the songs out, they were great in Glasgow a few weeks ago.
Anyone who hasn’t seen this band LiVe yet . Just gonna say , once they’re gone , there will never be another like them again.
Seen them maybe a half dozen times. And they blew the roof off each time.
Great Guy, good to see him on the show.
Incredible best player, one of favourite
A great live band...
Absolute legend
Looking good Mark👍🏾👍🏾
Fair play - Mark comes across as a seriously good bloke. Fantastic band. Remember seeing them at Wembley arena around 1988-9. Seems like a lifetime away now.
Love you ❤
You would think that after 40 years, interviewers would be able to come up with an original question to ask.
Looking forward to seeing the show in Amsterdam in November🎉
Total legend! Amazing bass play player!
I love their songs ❤
Wish "Boon"was still with us !

Mark is the best Music MEN 😁😄😉👍
I like LEVEL42 so much that I can say that there is probably no one in Japan who likes it more than me.
Salute to the OG's

Great Band in what was great, better days
Maestro❤️
The King of king forever!!! ❤❤❤...
And you hit the string with your thumb and it goes bong.
- Mark King, on slapping bass.
かわちぃ❤Mr.thumb 👍
Next Level would be a great title for a Level 42 album. As a follow up to the compilation albums Another Level and On the Level.
I spotted Paul Moore bopping along at the front at 3:28.
Mark "Thunder thumbs" King as Nik Kershaw calls him.
Underated
Level 42 take me back to being 19 again 👍
Mark King love Level 42, but his college on keyboard is important to him and the band:)
Good band 😊
