oh my goodness I'm new to keto and my favorite foods are potatoes, french fries. literally. this was my biggest worry. I cant wait to try this! you are fabulous!
I like to boil them for 8-10 minutes first then put them in the air fryer. You get the crispy on the outside and mushy-ish on the inside similar to a potato French fry.
I recommend putting them in a large zipper bag and adding your oil and seasoning then shaking them. It has always provided a more even coating in my expirience.
I make rutabaga fries in the air fryer all the time! Coat with oil, 25 minutes at 250, spray or brush with more oil, then 10 minutes at 400. You can do beets or other root veggies the same way.
It's a close call with turnip but these are my favourite potato substitute vegetable! The best seasoning I have used was salt and pepper, smoked paprika, garlic and avocado oil. They work well smothered in cheese and bacon to feel like you are having cheese fries!
Made these tonight and loved them. They will be my new fries replacement. So easy and delicious. I like rutabaga in general but never had them like this. Sooo good! The only tweak I made was adding paprika. I made them in the air fryer. Thanks Mayra! 🥰😋
In Australia we call Rutabagas, Swedes. They are actually a cross between a Turnip and a variety of cabbage. They make an awesome substitute for potato in a Potato Bake (potato au gratin). Game changer vegetable.
*Top tip with this veg* Peel and store in freezer. For some reason when defrosted it comes out soft reducing cooking time by a lot. Found this out by accident. Who knew! Try it and see. Bx
I made your fauxtato salad with mashed rutabaga, added extra eggs and onion....fantastic, indistinguishable from the real thing. That's what made me seek out this recipe (and of course your channel) I will try the par-boil trick. I think I'll start buying rutabaga by the bag.
I make fried potatoes..olive oil, rutabaga,, chayote squash and one potato. Chopped into even pieces and fried. Amazing and one potato through a whole pan doesn't seem to hurt my diet as long as I don't do it every day
I tried them and they taste like a mixture of a regular potato and some green cabbage.....but not like sweet potatoes. They're still really good and will definitely fix them again 🙂👍
When I say I just tried these fries just now in it’s the best thing ever I actually like these they help with my fries craving. happy I found something I can really, really enjoy ❤
Made these today…. Oh so yummy with sugar free catsup. I will have to make more next time, as I had to share with my four fur babies who also loved them. Ps- made them in air fryer. Love love love your channel and recipe ideas…
In the UK we call this vegitable a ‘swede’…. SWEDE (8.62G OF CARBS PER 100G) While most root vegetables are extremely starchy and therefore high in carbs, the swede has a much lower carbohydrate density than most, and a mild, sweet flavour…
I grew up eating them. My grandmother always put them in her stews. They have a distinct smell so I always know when they are being cooked. I use them also and it's not the same without them.
I use all the time. Best for me is mash together with equal amounts of cauliflower. Boil, squeeze to get out liquid and season with fave seasonings and using a hand blender blitz till creamy. Added creme fraiche makes it luxurious. Love this veg. Perfect with sausages and stews etc. bx
I’m starting back on Keto after taking a three year Break. Her bacon Mac’n Cheese saved my life and my diet the other day, I’m looking forward to trying some new recipes and I think I found my cook Guru.. 💜
I say to crisp them up, bake them like in the vid, then throw them in the deep fryer, might give it some much needed crisp, but either way I'm totally going to make these! I haven't had fries in 3 years and Lord what I wouldn't give for some fries lol
Grew up with Rutabagas... Rutabaga has a slight sweet flavor... mix half and half in mashed potatoes or up 2 parts 1 part potato. I Substitute Rutabagas for Potatoes in my beef and chicken Stews...
@@vermont1023 no they are different things but they are both in the same family. They look similar. Rutabagas are more yellowish inside and turnips are more white inside. They both have purplish on the outside along with white Also rutabagas are much more expensive than turnips

Ohhh good idea
I was thinking the same thing!!
I will try this next time. I made them the way she made them in the video tonight. I could go for more crisp. Thanks for the suggestion!

Such a clever French fry alternative! 👍
Can’t wait to try these! I’ll probably toss them in minced garlic, grated Parmesan and avocado oil though. 👌

Was so surprised but for the first time rutabaga went past my lip. They were terrific now I will not miss out on fries again. Thank you!
I grew up eating them. My grandmother always put them in her stews. They have a distinct smell so I always know when they are being cooked. I use them also and it's not the same without them.
I like this idea. I love putting sweet potatoes in my chili so this sounds like a great alternative
In Germany we call it Steckrübe. Super delicious as a stew with potatos, soup vegetables and pork too.

For anyone in Australia that doesn't know what a rutabaga is we call it a swede here ☺
I love rutabaga even before I went low carb.
Excellent idea 💖 perfect for the keto diet . You are such a beautiful woman 🥰
You should make carrot fries with garlic salt in an air fryer. They taste just like sweet potato fries 🧡
Wouldn’t carrots be too much sugar for keto?
Not low carb
Have some peas with it to to make sure your completely out of ketosis.
Carrots are not Keto.

Another great potato substitute is chayote I bake them and they remind me of a potato.
I sure hope they taste good with HP sauce.
Can you use this for mash ?🙂
Is that sand as an turnip ?

Do they taste bitter? I have only had them mashed.
Can you fry them in the pan?
Rutabaga is one of my favorites!!! Love, love love
I have one in my fridge right now!
I like it much better than a turnip.
Mine had a bitter aftertaste… any tips?
You had me at sweet potato fries. :)
I have had rutabaga before and I cannot believe they would ever taste like french fries. I will say though that my mother was the cook and I hated her turnip greens too. I like them as long as she is not the one cooking them.
Where can I find that vegetable in a Latin store?
Myra, Is there any way you could give the per serving details in your recipes/dishes?
Thank you in advance
Compared to your coconut flour fries, which do you prefer?
Awesome question
How do you get them so soft?
Hi Low Card Love I just love love love your recipes have you thought of making a cookbook I can’t keep up with all of them and don’t have time to write them all down GOD BLESS YOU BUNCHES
75 years old , from the South and over the years have eaten many of them and turnips..
Same here!
If they taste like sweet potato fries, you should season them with brown Swerve!
My grandma used to cook with rutabagas and I always tried to do it just like her and they never came out so maybe this recipe will be better for me
Thank you. 😋
I wonder if you slice on a mandolin and fry them?
How many carbs is it?
Could you also use turnips to make the fries
I wonder if they would be a potato replacement for potato salad
