I love my double monk straps, I think they would be a great 2nd pair for versatility, after an oxford because the right pair could go from suit down to causal jeans, but from personal experimentation they don't work at all with shorts haha. Great video as always Antonio.

    1. Black oxford. (cap toe optional)
    2. Brogue wingtip oxford
    3. Chukka boot or Chelsea boot
    4. Monk strap (single or double)
    5. Driving moccasin
The color on #2-5 are up to personal preference but #1 should be black

    4. Double monk strap
    5. Chukka boots

I love my double monk straps! I recently bought the Magnanni Miro, Tobaco colored, and it is quickly becoming my favorite pair! If I didn't have any of these shoes, I would put this on my list at number two just after black dress shoes. I rarely wear black dress shoes; otherwise, I would have put two different types of them at one and two.
Here's the order in which I would put them (based on my needs/preferences):
    1. Black dress shoes - type dependent upon the level of formality you need.
    2. Double monk strap (I prefer brown)
    3. Brown driving moccasins
    4. Black Chelsea boots

Hi, for my lifestyle, the number one would be a multipurpose hiking boot which can be worn casually without looking goofy. Second is a high quality dress shoe like an Oxford. Third or fifth would be, which was in my previous comment, the double monk strap. The Wolverine 1000 Miles would be a competitor with the chukka for forth place.

I would say that if one doesn't have a job that requires you to wear a suit, or if you don't wear a suit very often, you could pretty much buy monk shoes as your first pair. They are very versatile and look great with the casual look. Even better than a pair of oxfords or derbys if you ask me. Though I wouldn't start of with dark brown, rather black or light brown or even tan.

For me personally it is my second shoe after my black derbys. As a college student and working in a office where no one wearing suits, the oxford that is Antionios first choice, you just seem wrong with the enviroment. Someday maybe, with another job where suits are more common.

    Personally, I prefer:
    1. Black cap-toe oxford. Because it will get you through the most formal of events.
    2. Brown Semi-brogue oxford. I prefer the oxford to the derby personally, but this will be a nice step down in formality.
    3. Caramel brown 2x monk strap. Another step down for formality yet has a young, playful vibe.
    4. Cordovan penny/tassel loafers. The Gentleman's Gazette suggested these and I agree, they go with everything!
    5. Blue or white suede loafers. My preppy side is showing, but I love a non-boat summer shoe to round out the capsule.

  • @EOTA564
    @EOTA564 8 лет назад

3rd or 4th after a pair of black toe cap oxfords and a pair of semi brogues. It's more likely that I would add a pair of boots to my wardrobe first as in terms of function there is more overlap/redundancy between my brogues and the monks.
Another reason I would opt for a pair of boots first is that I prefer to 'weather proof' boots as opposed to shoes and it gives you a wet weather option. You can buy all kinds of shoes with a dainite sole these days but I prefer them on boots.
That said, I am a big fan of monk shoes and I currently have my eye on a pair of cedar calf monks with broguing on the toe cap and strap.

I would say a third shoe. I would go for a pair of wholecut black oxfords first, a pair of black dressier no cap toe full brogues (not longwings though) and a brown pair of double monk straps as a third. Well I should mention I prefer dressier looks way more than casual one. And that that means I might wear a suit with a necktie to a truck stop just as our friendly blogger Sven Raphael Schneider. Thanks for the great video.

Can I wear a black single monk strap with a dark pair of jeans? The shoe are plain with no cap toe. I've searched for a guide on single monk straps online but there seems to be not a whole lot of information on how to wear them. Could you do a video on them? (After you answer my question of course :P)

tan ryan If you wear leather laced and heavy sole shoes then the Dr. Martens should work for you - read more here: www.artofmanliness.com/2011/03/01/guide-boots-shoes/

Albert Elizondo I would say dark jeans and collared shirts are preferable for this event - a casual jacket should also be worn if you want to make an impression.

All depends on what you need your wardrobe to do. For me working in banking/finance:
    1. Oxfords - clean/cap toe
    2. Wing tip - brogue optional
    3. Boots
    4. Monk strap
    5. Loafer/repeat 1 or 2

Hello Antonio, I've always been baffled if we really need a chocolate/Dark brown derby at all, because for formal outfits a black oxford can easily replace it, otherwise for less formal outfits dark tan or medium brown derby shoes work perfectly. So, whats the use of a dark/chocolate brown leather shoe for men?

    • @RealMenRealStyle
      @RealMenRealStyle  9 лет назад

saby8765 A versatile color that ranges from light to dark shades. The great thing about brown is that you can wear it in pretty much any environment if you take black tie settings out of the picture.

Quick Question: Do you think the double monk strap shoe is a good update shoe for an upper level college student? I am interested in purchasing a medium quality (Price max $100) causal/everyday shoe. I love the style and versatility of this shoe.
I think a bright brown pair of double monk strap would be my number one pair of shoes. This shoe is stylish and versatile; so, as a budgeting college student I may be able to get more out of this shoe.

It depends what you are looking to get out of the shoe. I would say the a pair of brown semi brogue oxfords is slightly more versatile as they're just a bit more formal. I love my double monks but for me they're for dress down Fridays and for going out to nice bars and restaurants. Honestly, I think every man needs a pair of black close laced dress shoes but if you're only wearing them once in a blue moon then you can get away with a cheaper shoe.

Another tip (I'm assuming you are American) - now is a great time to buy English shoes with the $ so strong against the £. Might be outside your budget but check out Herring shoes online store. They stock many of the classic Northampton brands but their own 'Classic' line is good quality and affordable. I bought a pair of their Luscombe double monks and they are amazing. Trust me - Goodyear welted calf leather shoes are worth the money. Take it from someone who bought in the $100-$150 for years.

elJas123 You got it with 3rd - at least in my opinion. But 1st or 2nd I would be careful as it's not formal enough for interviews (in banking. law, medical, etc)

    1. Brown brogues
    2. Black toe cap
    3. Other option
    4. Monk strap
I usually just wear brown brogues. I can dress it up or down--super versatile, for me at least.

My collection is pretty simple. I need to send my Larchmonts in for recrafting. In order of purchase:
1 pair Allen Edmonds "Park Avenue" oxfords, black. For formal occasions or interviews.
2 pair Allen Edmonds, "Larchmont" wingtips, one black, one brown, daily work shoes.
1 pair Allen Edmonds, "Eastport" boat shoes, for casual wear and on Fridays at work.

    1. Black Oxford Cap Toe
To dress up a suit for interviews and important events as well as black tie.
    2. Walnut Oxford Cap Toe with Brogue
Worn with a suit in less formal situations like a business lunch or church. This shoe adds spice to normal business attire.
    3. Cap Toe Double Monk Straps
This shoe is better worn on dates or outings with friends and family.
It is not formal, but it is classier than tennis shoes.
Color or texture can vary based on your own sense of casual style.
I prefer dark blue jeans with a nice fitted button down shirt. Maybe a nice sweater or a leather jacket on colder days.
Tan suede Monks are my favorite.
    4. Dark Tan Boat Shoes (Dark sole, not white!)
This shoe is generally for summer while wearing shorts, hanging out at barbecues or lounging.
They can look nice as a casual outing shoe with pants as well.
    (Still better than tennis shoes!)
    5. Tennis Shoes (4-5 pair!)
For every day wear when you are not with friends or visiting anyone. Hanging out at home, going to the grocery store, picking up the kids from school, going to the gym, etc...
Having several pair that can be rotated will make them last much longer and keep them from getting smelly.
    6. Work Boots
This is basically any boot that fits your lifestyle, so some may not need this. I like to go camping, hunting, hiking, etc....
So a good pair of military style or hunting/hiking boots are perfect.
These are all the shoes I prefer for my lifestyle.
    Anything more is just fluff.

I guess my comment got cut off.
      Hmm...weird.
      Going to the store, etc...
Having multiple pairs for rotation will make them last longer and keep them from getting smelly.
      6. Work Boots
I like to go camping/hiking/hunting, so having a good pair of boots that can be used for many different things are very useful. Military/Hunting style boots are my favorite choice.
That's all the shoes I need for my personal lifestyle.
      Everything extra is just fluff.

Some of your videos are just you talking and we don't get any visual aides to help us know what you are talking about. This video is excellent though! :)
