In this video, we join Terry Theobald on a swollen River Wye as he guides us through how he targets Barbel in floodwater. For the average angler, a flooded, coloured river may seem like a waste of time, However, for dedicated Barbel anglers, a river in flood can be a delightful prospect, offering a significant opportunity for multiple Barbel catches. Increased rainfall and the resulting turbidity in our rivers have a remarkable effect on Barbel behavior. Instead of limiting their feeding activity to the early morning and late evenings on a low and clear river, they become quite active in the cloudy water throughout the day. This makes a flooded and discolored river a potential haven for Barbel enthusiasts.

Hi Theo. Good to see you out and about on the Wye. Some nice barbel there in the flood conditions. Best wishes to you as always!

Nice one Terry. The barbel certainly don’t mind flood conditions do they?

They have copied off my old trident shelter I had . Exactly the same only difference is mine had trident written on the front flap instead of tronixpro on the back face . Good shelters though

Nice video Terry! I bought a Korum 13' Big Water rod at the start of this year to fish the river Lot in France. Using similar tactics and end rigs to yours I have had plenty of barbel to over 8 pounds. The Lot has a good stock of carp as well, using the same rigs and baits I have caught carp of 21 pounds, 27 pounds and 35 pounds this year. The Big Water rod I rate as far better for river carp fishing, on open swims, than the usual carp rods!
