Late to another party, but what a party! Too big for me, which is a shame becasue it is a stunner. And Hamilton's corner cutting lack of A/R really shows up on this beauty. Thanks again to Richard, and happy birthday when it comes mate. Cheers, Jody

I've had my Hamilton "Murph" for about a year now and enjoy it very much. I purchased for US$750 like Richard and probably wouldn't pay any more than that at this point. It is a big watch, but it works well on my 7.75 inch wrist. The leather strap is fine, but I swapped it out for a black and tan Nato strap and it looks great. I know it's a gimmick, but I'm a sucker for the morse code on the seconds hand. It's like a little secret that only watch geeks will know. 😀

I think it's great that they released this watch, and the size is true to the one in the movie. 52mm is right on the edge of my max lug-to-lug on my 7.25" wrist, but I could wear it. There are clearly enough people in the world to pull that size watch off, but I can understand why some people were hoping it would be smaller. Maybe in the future they will consider releasing a small Murph at 38 or 39mm. I'm sure it would get some love. As for me, I am hoping my Cooper I ordered shows up tomorrow. That one is definitely my style, and I've had my eye on it since even before your review last year. I'm excited, as the only other watch I've bought in 2021 was my "Jellyfish" CasiOak G-Shock.

I loved the film, so I had to get the watch and love it. Even though the lugs are long. I managed to get one of the early ones that had the limited production acrylic tesseract box, which was a nice touch, for a film fan.

Owned my Murph for about 3 months. I am still obsessed with it, the novelty has yet to wear off. It is an easy reader and and I find myself entranced at times just staring down and watching the seconds sweep across the dial. The Arabics are unique and elegant. The only problem I have is the lack of the anti reflective coating, this thing almost doubles as a mirror at times. Also I have a 7inch wrist, if you have anything smaller than a 7in wrist you should instead get the khaki king auto

Funny. I'm relatively new to watch collecting and discovered the cathedral hour hand earlier this year, on this Hamilton Murph, and decided I needed something in the collection with that handset. Anyway it was quite pricey at the time and I wasn't keen on the 6 and 9 number style either. I then discovered the Alpinist watches and settled on the black dial with shark tooth indices SPB117J1. That Hamilton Murph is still a special watch though. I partly blame it for my current addiction.

That’s a good looking watch. I wish Tissot had a no date dial like that. Give it different hands and maybe 40mm (but they are just quibbles) would differentiate it enough considering Hamilton are not as readily available in Australia as Tissot.

Despite the lowbeat movement, like the Murph as a daily driver, grabbed another Murph when one turned up heavily discounted to keep one mint. One has the unique LE box. The daily driver now has some Wabi after a year of good use, still looks ok on a fabulous distressed leather grey/brown strap, a Hadley-Roma 854, the most supple, thick, sublime $30 strap. Get one.
Have 2 different Coopers too, standard and tan lume version.

A good review Jodi. I think Hamilton designed this watch to appear to be an old watch and I think they did a pretty good job. The faux lume as you say is just about right. Having a matt finish on the hands also makes sense as it gives a slight oxidised appearance. Adding AR would have certainly helped readability but would have been at odds with an old watch that could really pass off as an old watch when new. Apologies if this is confusing. The long lug to lug is mitigated somewhat by the down sweep angle. Prospective buyers should if possible try one on and not just go by the measurements. You probably guessed I have this watch and am pretty happy with it. It's a watch that you could put in an old shed and someone who finds it would have difficulty getting any idea of how old it is. For sure I'd doubt they would be able to accept it was new. Anyway a great unboxing. All the best.

When i bought this watch i struggled to fall in love with it. I just couldn't click with it. I had it for about a month before i decided to put it on Ebay, it wasn't until i started taking pictures close up, from different angles, with the box and certificate did i actually start to feel a connection. I had it on Ebay for about 10 minets before i cancelled to lisiting and put it back on my wrist. 4 months later and i'm in love with it. I can't wait to set it's time and wind it back up when i treat myself to wear it on my days off work. I also take it on holidays and day trips so it has some great memories linked with it now.

I have the Field Watch is identical to that more or less. Wears very well under my layered sleeve clothes in winter the longish ness is not so bothersome as if it was a thicker piece. So I can slide my wrist thru my hoodies and coats no hang ups that is a big advantage over my thicker automatics... I dont mind hand wind for that reason although without day date on them so they are easy to set I digress. Love Hamiltons great value and they take a beating I do outside work and no issues with time keeping. Small wrist most of my watches look big so with this one.

I only started 1 year ago collecting cheap watches to find my style and preferences to in the future buy some more expensive watches.
When JOMW posted the original review of the Cooper watch, it was the first time my girlfriend got really excited for a watch. Interstellar was one of the first movies we saw together when we started dating and she really really likes how the watch looks.
The size was way too big for my skinny wrists, but when I found out there was a smaller version, my plan was to get it as my wedding watch. And then they discontinued the small version, it's just impossible to get. I have called every Hamilton distributor in a 100km radius, I still check ebay and Google weekly to find somebody that wants to sell it (for a realistic price), but at this point I think I will never find it.

I think this is one of the better looking Khakis fields and also a bit unique instead of typical field watch look. Kinda dressy for a field watch. Hi Jody that is just about the perfect watch for me if it only was under 40 mm

The size of the watch is fine. 42mm diameter is perfect and 52mm lug to lug works well on any wrist at least 7" in size. I have a 7.5" wrist and wear watches with 54mm lug to lug lengths with no issues. The lack of AR coating is a pain but you get used to it.

Easily one of the nicest movie tie-in watches I've seen. The lack of AR is kind of a shock. I like the overall size but the lug-to-lug tells me 'no'. I have a similarly sized Alpina that unfortunately hangs over my wrist at both ends. Not annoying enough to make me get rid of it as it was one of the first 'nice' watches I ever bought. Definitely enough to dissuade me from buying a similarly L-O-N-G watch.

At this point, I think Hamilton prides itself on unnecessarily long lug-to-lug lengths relative to case size. I mean, if Seiko can fix this problem on nearly all their watches (skx007, 42x46mm, anyone?), surely Hamilton can do it. I tried the 38mm Field Mechanical, but with 48mm lugs, the gaps between the case and supplied canvas strap just look bad. If I do someday consider Hamilton again, I’ll have to upgrade to the Field Automatic with bracelet.

The lack of AR, and 42/52mm are a shame. If it had AR and was 40/50 (or a bit smaller) I would definitely buy one

I had one for over a year and what impresses me the most is how accurate it is. Perhaps the size is the only serious con in this piece. Otherwise, it's amazing.

If you can't find a mirror near by just look at your Hamilton watch. That crystal reflects everything!

Beautiful looking watch but just too big. Would look far better at 39mm.

Dang dude sent you his own gift to open it early 🤣 that’s funny I love this watch and all the videos, I think this watch is just good looking as anything. I feel guilty liking it honestly because it’s like a field dressy watch.
