  • Hi again friends! This episode begins the saga of rebuilding an engine from start to finish that we plan to swap out with Nigel's current one to get him thriving for more adventures. Everything was going smoothly until a very, very big hiccup that threw a complete spanner in the works.
    Finger's crossed we don't run into any more!

    Keep the 2.25, it might be a sewing machine motor, but it likes to rev and cruise faster than a Holden motor with original gearing.
    The best performance mod is to grind the cam to the 6cyl specs, where each valve opens 5 degrees sooner and closes 5 degrees later, this will allow the engine to breathe a lot better and with better clean air intake and exhaust purge, it will feel freer.
    Put electronic ignition in, it's hard to get good quality points and ignition problems will continue to plague you if you don't.
    You can get an adaptor for the oil filter so you can use a standard (modern) screw on filter, which will be less likely to leak and which will have ports for oil pressure senders.
    The Australian Army had a 4 core radiator, which helped with hot climate performance.
    The best carby is the Zenith 36IV.
    enjoy

    Here in the UK we have a lot of series 2/3 running later 2.5 NA, 200TDI etc. Not sure what you could get hold of in Oz. I seem to recall the military Perenties have Iveco engines? If these are mated to a standard defender gearbox (LT77/R380) this should bolt straight onto the series gearbox, as is the case with 200 tdi conversions.

    • @robertgow7952
      @robertgow7952 9 месяцев назад +1

      The Australian army 110s had an Isuzu 3.9 direct injection diesel, mated to the Lt 95 box but there were also very late Series 3 built in Australia that had the same driveline , with leaf springs and drums front and rear

    • @AJ-qn6gd
      @AJ-qn6gd 9 месяцев назад

      Common figment in the U.K. is 200 Tdi with the turbo removed, it’s basically the same engine block so a straight forward fit, and there’s loads of rusted out discos about. Good luck with the project 👍🏻🇬🇧

    Is the crack in the water galley or the oil galley? If it’s oil you could get it welded up at the engine shop. Doesn’t hurt to ask.

    Thats rotten luck, they are a solid motor, I wouldn't put a Holden motor in- having owned one- extra litre of engine for no real gain and the economy stinks. The two best mods I've done to the 2 1/4 litre is extractors and an electronic distributor, the improvement is dramatic and economy improved. Best of luck

    • @BobBob-nx3yh
      @BobBob-nx3yh 9 месяцев назад +6

      Yes. it's better. The struggles are mostly due to a love of old cars. Anyone who loves to own old cars, goes through this, regardless of lifestyle. Freedom and doing life the way YOU choose is definitely better. Its brave, rewarding and bold, instead of following the flock apathetically. into your own lack of freedom. and then knocking others who did step free.
