Thanks for the post- I was one of the artists that worked on this game- I modeled and textured the B-17 as well as some of the other planes. Those were really fun times!
Hey TK? Congratulations on a fine project. I'll never forget the epic amount of time you dedicated to the game. Your nickname down the hall was 'Terminator'!. It's terrific to see, how artists with more talent than I, have gone on to make it even more of their own. The art for the patches is superb.
This was the very first game I bought for my new PC in 1999. I loved this! So many hours played. One funny story. I wanted a mission to escort B-17's to Germany in a P-51. Those missions started around 5 am. So I decided to simulate conditions by actually starting the game (mission) at that time in the morning. Great. Started the mission, wheels up, squadron gathered, rendezvoused with the bombers in the dark. On to Germany. As the light began on the screen from the rising sun, the sun also rose out my window. Across the sea to the Netherlands. Clear skies, full sunlight over Northern Europe, the flight began encountering flak. No problem. Then one bomber was lost. OK, we'll just keep orbiting the bombers looking out for enemy fighters. Then another bomber was lost. And another. The bomber crews were screaming for assistance but their attackers were on the ground. No fighters around. Eventually, so many bombers were damaged or shot down, it became apparent this mission was a bust. Finally the last bomber crashed and I exited the game to discover I failed the mission. I was PISSED! I never played another mission. But still I played European Air War more than any game at that time. I also remember a patch available that improved the flight physics, in cockpit graphics and even the "realism" of bailing out. I'd play this game again if I could but that's back on a PC 2000 miles away. Not even sure the PC still works. Anyway, thanks for uploading the video!
11-2017 I just got my old copy up and running in winXP. Thank you to all the the programmers and dedicated flyers that have kept this magnificent game flying.
Yea, me too ! The handbook's (!) pages had a wonderful smell on them... I spent years playing this game - it made me dream the sounds of machinegun-fire !
This came out when I was in 4th grade. I was a huge WWII buff at the time and was super excited by all the WWII games that year (EAW,Jane's WWII Fighters, Fighter Squadron, and MSCFS) but I didn't have a PC at home! ARGH! But to this day European Air War, which as I recall was regarded as the underdog of the bunch, takes the cake for realism AND fun. It was the sleeper hit. And few sims since have been able to match the number of combatant aircraft in the skies or the historical accuracy of this sim. Instead we have dogfighting B-17s and small maps (War Thunder) or sparse IL-2 series.

I started playing this game at 28 years old, and I absolutely freaking loved this game... I wish they would make it compatible with the new OS systems, but not change anything about the play...
I remember the weak sound effects and how modded sound effects were a must. I still have all the boxed game and all mods for this sim guess time to give it a go with dosbox etc Thanks for sharing!
The use of interceptors was extremely diletastic. Especially when you consider that FW 190 D has been used here. There is a very simple way to crack the bomber boxes. The first approach always takes you directly from the front. Then take the bombers from behind. In doing so, you take back the power and shoot down the opponents in relatively short and accurate salvages. Two-thirds of the squadron will be used to shield you against enemy fighters. The rather assault on the bombers takes place from the outside inwards. After a successful firing at the opponent, you will break away sideways und full power and start the next approach. In this way, it is quite possible to shoot down half of the bomber gang. After such serious casualities, the enemy's formation normally dissolves and seeks salvation to have attacked in the run without their destination. Then the time has come to order free chasing and eliminate the damaged single flying bombers. Thus the fight is successfully decided. This is the way to the knight's cross with oak leaves and swords ...
This is a great game! I immediately purchased if from GOG only to find that my Logitech Extreme 3D pro does not work under win!!, and I can't figure out how to control the Flight Controls and Rudder (by twisting) from the HOTA X52 (maybe you have to install the pedals, but I don't have enough room for that) I ordered a Thrustmaster joystick to see if that will work. Frustrating - the Ex 3D worked so well under previous Windows versions (I think WinXP was the last I played it) Also, is there any way to add the mods from the EAW website - some of them were truly extraordinary.

The best flight combat sim every made! I wish I could get it to work now or they would remake it for today's computers!

This game pulled no punches, if you died you were dead dead. If you got captured that was it.
Please please update this game to modern pc level! This and screaming demons over europe were amazing.
