Sweet child do you at all know that what you talk about is only Web Development related. There is a thing called Enterprise software development where you also usually have a client server architecture but sometimes not sometimes is a application application connections and it do actually have API on both sides and do not use stupid JaveScript Object Notation I mean there are Machine to Machine API's and there are a lot of them. Also one of the bad things with today web is a lot of people not knowing how to optimise. Websites are slower 10 times then they ware 10 years.
So optimise images do not use JavaScript a lot and prefer using compressed streams of bytes to communicate between application and server.

I have always been a front end developer and I told people "I don't know the back end." Recently I realized I'm doing everything. I can create an entire website from start to finish. I know SQL, I know PHP, I know MySQL, I know relational databases and can design and develop them. I just started learning React with Node, Express and MongoDB. I seem to be getting familiar with everything at the moment. I am redoing my portfolio and just finished the design and using React while also working on short web developer RUclips videos and a blog. Now there's only one problem:

I've worked with API's before! Basically you're calling code to use someone else's code. You CANNOT fully access that code or save it. I was using Renesas Synergy which uses an "Eclipse" environment. I put my HOUSE on the line using that crap and failed to make their platform work. In Aerospace or Defense, these APIs are useless because the "proprietary" software you can't see is somewhere else. You cannot compile without an INTERNET connection to those library files that are HIDDEN from you.

I'd really like to get into Java. But I'm worried because I am a senior front end dev, with a very lovely salary, and I'd have to go back to square one on a much lower salary If I pivot. I'm wondering if java is really a good option to take at this stage in my career... And is it simply based around making API's and working with SQL data etc.
