My case for IF has always been that if I'm on a cut. Is that up till the point that I start eating in any day, I simply don't get hungry. I can just stave off cravings entirely by not eating until noon, and that just gives the rest of my diet a lot more flexibility.

@@garymcnall4065 That’s the point of IF tho, you won’t get as hungry. I HAD to eat breakfast, if I skipped it I would get nauseous later and have fainted once, I think from skipping breakfast. Been doing IF for a few years now and can easily not eat for 24 hours if I want.
Some days I will just do OMAD (one meal) and I will eat a whole pizza and still be around maintenance for cals consumed for the day.
Some times I will eat breakfast but skip lunch, while that’s technically not IF, I find skipping a meal or two easier than eating 5 meals at 500 calories for example.

From my experience IF isn't really done for longevity reasons. In practise, it's done as a way of controlling caloric intake for the day by having a smaller eating window. However, there are additional benefits that come from this pattern of eating which include a boost in mental clarity (less brain fog), it helps reset insulin sensitivity (something that's absolutely overlooked by the fitness industry) and if you go for very long periods, say 20 plus hours, it also reduces inflammation in the body and increases the rate of autophagy (getting rid of dead cells and replacing them with new ones - this makes you look younger for longer).

I have been happy since I started using intermittent fasting. The real benefit for me is it stops me from binging at night and overeating. This definitely helps me maintain a lower calorie intake. It is also starting to seem like I am going to bed and waking up earlier, but too early to tell if this is a fleeting phenomenon or here to stay. Lastly I allow myself a cheat midnight snack if I am hungry near bedtime. I have a set amount of Nuts/seeds with dried cranberries. It helps a lot with cravings.

I remember being told that intermittent fasting may give your digestive system a chance to focus on repairing itself?, It also help you understand stand/break bad habits (biscuits with your tea, chocolate bar with your newspaper ect). I remember a religious person talking about lent, giving up things for lent helps you understand the control they have over you (alcohol, caffeine etc). I've done intermittent fasting a few times but it's always gone along with a "Diet" and healthy practices, it's always made me feel better but separating fasting from everything else seems difficult...

To be honest, all optimization is “hacking.” Eating a lot of meals throughout the day is hacking, too. The important thing about findings that intermittent fasting (or time restricted eating) being either “better” for you or at least not harmful, is that it’s a permission structure for people to try things that other people told them shouldn’t do and see how it affects them personally.
If I listened to all the people who said that low carb and IF was either bad or useless, I wouldn’t have found the only diet that doesn’t feel like a diet to me, and I doubt I’d have lost 120lbs so far.

longevity and bodybuilding are kind of paradoxical in many ways, you're not gonna find any muscle men with a BMI of 20 I'll tell you that.
For reference if you are 5ft 10 (178cm) , you would need to weigh 139lb (63kg) to have a BMI of 20.

Okay and unrelated, but would like to see a video for joint recovery/ best practices stuff like that.
As an example i think i messed up my shoulders when i first started doing BP at the gym (didnt know wtf i was doing) and had some calcium deposits there for the last 2-3 years.
Ski injury at the lower back - Im programming my mesos not to overdo my lower back like i used to do and now im fine.
Worst one is i think cubital tunnel syndrome, managed to get away from it for a while, now it's back. Seems to resurface as soon as i try to do heavier stuff on Push days. I really like the normal bench press a lot and the slow/ paused larsen press, full rom. For the last couple of mesos went heavier because i want to improve the strength see where im at, but that really messes my elbows - tried different positions if i go wide, shoulders hurt like hell, right one especially, if i go close grip my arm angle goes a lot below 90 degrees and i think that flexion really fucks up the elbows. Im staying somewhere in between as shoulders seem ok with it and i have enough velocity for the push. Damn elbows if i stay for example in a bicep curl position at the top for long enough, part of the forearm and the pinky and index fingers go numb, even in my sleep if those go numb due to random positions it kinda wakes me from time to time. as soon as i finish this meso (day 1 3x5 heavy touch and go, day 2 2x5 larsen slow paused, day 3, 3x5 larsen slow pause + of course other movements, those are BP realted) and next meso ill try to focus on triples see where that gets me, afterwards i will focus more on the back, maybe do a cut cuz i got fat (and strong) and maybe ill ditch the BP for dips and machines see how those feel on the elbows.
So regarding this last thing do you have any recommendation? Im sure if i go to a physician hell probably say REST or something like that, dont do shit and so on so i prefer to find things on my own. Tried some stretches, massaging the area, but i think the best thing is indeed the rest + light weight which is annoying as hell.
I know this is not a short comment but would appreciate it if a video would miraculously appear for these things, or a short practical recommendation.
Thx again, cheers from Romania :)

Lots of warm up - 20-30 rep single arm cross body cable press down, same with something almost approaching a Bayesian curl. I get them very warm and pumped focusing on the eccentric. Work sets - always focusing on the eccentric. For back pulls like rows and deadlifts, I use straps. For bar pull-ups, I pull thumb over bar using Kyle Boggeman’s pull-up standards. For chin-ups, I use rings so the elbow can move freely. I only recently added barbell press back - went exclusively dumbbell for many months. I do finger curls holding a barbell behind my back to strengthen forearms. Dips generally don’t irritate them so I do lots of those. Dumbell pullovers and pec fly can irritate them, so I usually do the lat prayer or pullovers with an ez-curl bar. Always focusing on the eccentric. Still go for explosive concentric on the exercises that don’t aggravate the joint. Otherwise don’t, and stay mindful of what motion and angle irritates it. I’ve noticed myself a lot is in the grip. Good luck.

This is almost a sociological/psychological issue - the vast majority of weight lifters have strong willpower and can bypass the cravings much easier than the general population.
When you're the average person then it matters a lot whether you ate a stranded dessert which later on gave you much stronger craving for sweets, or you eat desserts only after savory meals full of protein.
And if you add fewer chances of screwing up ie eating during a smaller time frame all the better.
Also people who work out have a much greater use for whatever they eat, meanwhile if someone else snacks while awake most probably it's going to their fat stores.

IF makes cutting basically foolproof, in that practically speaking you will not have enough time to go over your calorie budget. If you're eating in a 6 hour window before bed, and you eat to complete satiety, let it digest, eat again to satiety 3-4 hours later... That's the day gone and it's time for bed. In order to overeat you'd basically have to force yourself to stay awake for a few extra hours until your hunger returned.

I lost about a third of my bodyweight through IF. Though I doubt its because of any slight magical hormonal effects or whatever like people claim, it just simply helped me eat less. I don't get hungry until I start eating, so it was easy to wait until dinner, eat all my calories in one go which filled me up, then it was less effort not to snack because I'd just start getting ready for bed. Also, if I was really craving something, it is so much easier to say 'later' than 'never', and by the time later came around the craving had gone. As I've started to take training more seriously, I have a protein shake and fruit before my workout and spread my protein out a bit more, but I highly recommend it for anyone struggling to lose weight. Though it definitely isn't for everyone, especially if youre a morning person it seems.

My understanding, based on information provided by Dr. Sinclair, is that the intermittent fasting regiments, which has been popularized, are typically inaccurate. Fasting for 16 hours per day is optimal and it doesn't matter how many meals one consumes during the 8 hour eating window as long as one doesn't over eat. My understanding is that the motivation to intermittently fast is due to the biological reaction to this caloric restriction stress which "turns on" our "hormetic" response, where in, hormesis has the benefit of increasing the activity of or improving the natural repair processes of our dna. Having "healthier" (whatever that may specifically mean) dna, lowers our "genetic age". I encourage any interested layman to read his book on the subject of anti aging, the field in which Sinclair is actively conducting research, Lifespan: Why we age and why we don't have to. If I have misrepresented the relevant facts, in any way, it is not intentional.

    1. Would be interesting to see if the lower range of BMI benefit for longevity have the adiposity factor accounted to it
    2. It would also be interesting to see the correlation between adiposity and longevity regardless of BMI
What I’m really curious about in a nutshell is, if you are slightly on the higher end of BMI and relatively muscular, and you have normal/healthy level of fat percentage, does the higher BMI alone does poorly for your longevity? Or poorer than the skinny low BMI low Muscle mass dude all things considered equal?
Oh by the way, my insulin resistance, and abdominal adiposity have only starts to improve significantly when I started to lift weight regularly, much better that when I only do cycling, and restrict calories/low carb/intermittent fasting etc…I even eat 4 times a day, never go hungry, and have my weight stabilized since I lift regularly
