sorry, gotta disagree. listen to Elvis songs from the late 50's to early 60's after his vocal coaching in Germany. That's when he literally OWNED every challenging song he did, no matter the stylel Got weaker through the 60's movie music with weight gain, but morphed into something completely new and powerful after weight loss, getting in shape leading up to the '68 comeback, almost unrecognizable from the 50's.
He worked at it and got better. He never needed lessons. Waste of money and time. I just always wonder how he lasted as long as he did. He took little bits from people he knew were very good

Great upload with this rare footage. We need a That's The Way It Is part 2, with all these 'left overs' freshly cleaned and polished. To the powers that be: We want them now, 50 years on.
I’m a professional singer and huge Elvis fan. Saw him in concert in 1976. Though this song is a difficult song to sing, both because of the constant modulation of the song key, and so the notes get higher, but also because of the air needed to sustain the notes as this song requires an almost operatic voice, which Elvis had. That being said. There are several songs that are more challenging and difficult vocally to perform in his more than 800 song repertoire. Notably “Hurt”, as his live performance of it from 1976-1977, he often hit 2 notes above the highest note he did on the original recording. The studio version’s highest note used a high A. Whereas in the live shows, such as in the CBS TV Special “Elvis In Concert”. He hits a high B. The B is a full step, or two half steps above A. In sequence it goes A - A# - B. All of that being said, and with all of my knowledge from years of knowing Charlie Hodge. I would venture to say that Elvis did not sing this particular song from the Elvis Country album because he was only onstage for an hour a show. Even if he did change out a few songs here and there. Which he did basically for the filming of TTWII (1970) which this rehearsal was also filmed for. Elvis was a creature of habit. He wanted to sing songs that got reaction from the audience. He recorded hundreds of songs in the studio that he never did live. He sang songs on stage live that he loved and or felt he had to, like Hound Dog, because they were what many of his fans came to see. The Hits. Elvis was a very bright and understanding guy. He wanted to please his fans first, and then himself. I always say he could’ve sung the phone book and I would’ve listened, but moderate fans typically want the hits. Thanks for posting that short clip of the rehearsal. It’s a shame they didn’t give him show quality sound for the rehearsals as they knew it was being filmed. Col. Parker dropped the ball on that one.
Elvis’s voice during this is strained because he’s been rehearsing and his energy levels are high he nails the song in the studio some songs are not live worthy hence why he never sang them live and this is one of them, when Elvis Presley is live he has an audience of fans who only want the hits so Elvis chooses his set list accordingly

@@kennethcurtis1856 Elvis was way past his best after he recorded Promised Land, he had his ups and downs and still did some good work, but he often lack basic coherency in his later years and wordy Rock and Roll songs he struggled with, he also seemed to struggle remembering lyrics for example using a sheet of paper for My Way in 1977 which he'd been singing for years.

It took lots of energy to perform songs the way Elvis did, maybe that's why he didn't sing this song on stage. Nothing and no song was “too difficult” for The King. A lot of songs were rehearsed for “ TTWII” and not all of them made it to the final shows. Simple as that. Matter of preference for Elvis. What he thought would go over best with the audience and what would not. As for not doing it live, the same applies. It’s not that anything was too difficult, it was matter if if he liked it after rehearsing it and what kind of crowd reaction he thought it would get. As great as this is, it would never bring the crowd to it’s feet like Suspicious Minds or Polk Salad Annie and he knew it. He had his finger on the pulse of what his fans wanted, another reason why he is The King!
Right on, my friend! He could make anything his own, which turned out best. I love his rehearsal of How The Web Was Woven. Wish he would have performed Sylvia and The Sound Of Your Cry.
@@bign8580 it takes alot of effort. Elvis would have to do a few ballads and then do it if he was doing a long concert. There are tricks to the trade. Oh my gosh that would be crazy! I’m sure the band would go nuts! LOL
@@ElvisistheMan_ In the clip I saw Charlie Hodge yawning in the background! They really did work really hard for Elvis and with him.
Yesss .. make the world go away was another n a great performance didn't make the cut .. BONKERS lol
Right on, my friend! He could make anything his own, which turned out best.
I love his rehearsal of How The Web Was Woven. Wish he would have performed Sylvia and The Sound Of Your Cry.
Sounds Great to me but I think that song would strain Elvis' voice if he had to sing it on stage every night.
Unless he sang it last to bring the curtain down .
Exactly. It takes a toll after awhile. No need to strain it so much. i love those songs
Well your wrong ....
@@bign8580 it takes alot of effort. Elvis would have to do a few ballads and then do it if he was doing a long concert. There are tricks to the trade. I performed in my life so I know what Elvis thought process was. Not too promote my channel but I'm gonna delve into that. How Elvis songs and how to sing like him of u can. It takes work. Some are born with the talent.
@@markmoscatello9461 Not sure what your trying to say .... But I know what I'm saying .... Nobody .... NOT EVEN YOU .... Is Elvis .... And nobody .... NOT EVEN YOU .... Can do what he could do .... NOBODY .... He could do it all .... ANYTIME HE WANTED .... PERIOD .... No Brag .... Just Fact ....
Tomorrow WILL come and it is because I HAVE FAITH IN YOU ELVIS MY KING!
WOW! Thank-You! Loved this song since the '70s, never saw or heard this. WOW what an ending! Really does equal, if not better, the studio version.
Hello, I was in Las Vegas back in the 1970's , went to the Hilton Hotel , I got to see Elvis in person....he is a great singer...John from North Carolina.
