I once watched an obese guy eating a huge steak while this song was on in the background. He was eating so fast and vigorously that he started to break a sweat. I remember it whenever I watch an episode of Kaiba now.
Kaiba was one of the very few anime where the OP animation and show are logically connected to eachother. The music amplifies this. The song itself may not be entirely about the same subject matter as the anime it's connected to, but the lyrics can be interpreted to mean something that is absolutely the same subject matter. In short, the anime is a romantic tragedy about the soul-body-soul connection, and the song is a romantic tragedy about the soul-soul connection.
The ending and opening of Kaiba are so far the only ones I like in anime so far. The blood that was not red and was without guts made the crazier parts of the anime easier to watch as some things. At least I am not super Squeamish. I do have to watch some of Kaiba a second time to really get it since there was lots going on, it has subtitlesand with where I was at when I first watched it I couldn't focus super hard on it, but it is worth a second watch after a long time of not watching it for a long time I think.
A must watch love story in a dystopic universe that feels like Tezuka meets Anno with style that Imaishi seems inspired on to date. I expected Gainax staple tangling missiles in a missile scene though.... This is Madhouse.
Glad to hear that i'm not the only one flattered by the change and the last episode. The personal stories are great, as far the third (piano) episode could be the best imho.
Makes me wonder why show like this, Haibane Renmei, and Kino's Journey aren't seem more often. I'll be honest: the effort made in the animation in REDLINE could have been put into a more meaningful storyline, such as those found in the stories above. Think about it: REDLINE, boiled down, was a convoluted love story where explosions and things happened. At least some of the guys behind that animation are working on the new Lupin the Third show. It's a start.
Not to sound like a boomer but damn, they really don't make anime today like they used to. Sure, there's some great ones here and there, but in terms of original or auteur anime unbounded by genre, I don't really see much aside from Miyazaki. Frieren might be one example of a good anime today but so much of it is still Anime™, iykwim. So much of anime today is entertainment for the target audience, which is not bad, but I haven't really seen one that is authentic with a pure artistic vision unless talking about anime of the past decades.
OMG... *_* i cry see this anime and this music make me think and sense my emotions...lol a litlle strange i know. Love it no words. Best anime *_* have the best music *_*
People saying Madoka was terrible because the only reason people like it was cause it was "Dark 'n' edgy"? If you think this you probably didn't watch all of it. I liked it because of the characters and where their actions and decisions take them. The same reason I liked Kaiba.
I agree completely. I do admit, though, that having distanced itself from most usual tropes of the genre added to the flavor. Just like Kaiba again: Kaiba looks like a children's cartoon, has character designs that seem to come right out of Hannah-Barbera... and yet, it is nothing at all like that.
@Einhander49 I was merely referring to the visual ascetic of the shows; I don't think of Madoka in the same way most people exalt that show in. I'll go ahead and say it: the shock in that show is cheap in the same way that killing little kids in Modern Warfare 3 and Mass Effect 3. Now, the way they killed off people in this show was downright haunting. They destroy both the mental and physical being with such abandon. I still have nightmares about the third episode.
(11 years late but) madoka kinda has a similar concept with the soul gems and “zombie” bodies. i’m kind of biased since it was my first anime though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I absolutely agree with you. Personally i found Madoka a little empty of real important and haunting themes, but the difference between the two is mesmerizing, i can't even think of them on the same plane. Kaiba has so much effort and cure in it, that is a true piece of art. While the story will remain in your mind forever - if not all, some parts Madoka... erhm, just no.
the lip sync, her singing isnt matching the video, its known as Lip Sync, she looks like bruce lee in martial arts films "Want to fight?" (lips still moving) "Fight with me!"
Do a video review and stop hunting people for their thoughts. I could be an elitist of anime because art-anime are the only ones I watch, but the show's fanbase could not be a problem. Ever. Plus i'm not the one on these comments who said the worst thing about Kaiba/Madoka. And least: you watched the whole show as well. ;)
what wrong with you peoples?? if you like it pls turn it on otherwise shut it down... nobody sing or perform horrible, you peoples make yourself look horrible instead!!! stuff being posted mean to be share not to be urglized.
I hope you're kidding us because i can't understand how we've ruined the show to you. Our attitude, even if pretentious, remains our attitude, so it doesn't affect you and you can easily forget about us. But maybe not since you read our exchange awhile ago. So I'm surprised that you put so much effort to coming back after time has passed. So really, what's the problem? - unless it's a shitstorm because shitstorms from unknown youtube users aren't nice.
Looking complex and being simple is not necessarily pretentious, and let's be honest, they definitely weren't looking to impress considering the art style they chose. It turned a lot of people off from the show since it looks vastly different from most anime. Anyway, I don't wanna rave on too long as it probably doesn't matter to you, but "pretentious" isn't really a correct word to use when criticizing this show. If anything it has more unapologetically unimportant information than most other anime.
How do you think acting like an elitist does the show any favors? Talking like you're some sort of anime authority doesn't convince people that the show is good. It alienates them. You were the first impression I received from the show's fanbase, and my immediate reaction was "I do not want to be part of this". You are turning people away from something you clearly love with your superiority complex. I'd talk more about the show itself, but I'm running out of space: Maybe I'll video review it.
I read through your little back and forth exchange awhile ago, and I just thought I'd let you know that, thanks to your pretentious attitude, I can no longer enjoy Kaiba. You've ruined the show for me. Thanks a lot.

TheScienceShark WHAT?!
TheScienceShark That sounds amazing
Link?
I know it’s been 6 years since u made this comment but I demand context
@@LunarLoser We really like our steaks. The faster you eat the more constant the flavor is.
There was something about this anime that I -absolutely- loved.
fictional response! agree!
Most Underrated anime,, beautiful Yuasa..
I saw Kaiba when it came out. And I guess I will always come back to its magnificent and immaculate music
time to cry again
Nostalgia
I feel at peace with this music.
Same my friend.
カイバだあああああ!

I wish there was an mp3 of this out there! Such a good song, very calming and lovely.

Como que mis ojos empezaron a sudar 🥺

Idk if you’re still alive 11 years later but anime is hugely popular and beloved around the world now!
Not to sound like a boomer but damn, they really don't make anime today like they used to. Sure, there's some great ones here and there, but in terms of original or auteur anime unbounded by genre, I don't really see much aside from Miyazaki.

XShrike yea, it's messed up. will have to find a good copy of the PV
This version has less hiccuping I think www.dailymotion.com/video/x32aph6
best anime eva , so great!
I love when people address the artist in their comments. Like she's going to see it.
People saying Madoka was terrible because the only reason people like it was cause it was "Dark 'n' edgy"? If you think this you probably didn't watch all of it. I liked it because of the characters and where their actions and decisions take them.

@SephirosB That's how it usually is for anime. Cases in point: Madoka Majica or Kino's Journey
hahahaha! me too... i wonder what yamapi sees in her. well, all i can say is that pi always have unique tastes.

Madoka... erhm, just no.
If I could feel love I would love her.
Hm... nice song...
Kaiba
i know right... i liked him with chikako watanabe. both very influential and popular people
This anime looks childish but I was surprised by the sheer amount of adult themes. Great series.
Especially episode 2.
Why? I´m Yamapi´s fan and (if the rumor is true) I would be happy that he´s got someone
I'm not crying! I'm not crying, dammit!
Nope, youtube just has a habit of playing some videos with the audio and video out of sync, usually the video a little faster.
Beautiful song but the constant skip glitches piss me off
@nonoriginalusername I know right? This girl just seems so incredibly charming :D
fukkin beautiful
ใช่ คางามิ เซระ ป่าวครับ
The girl is kinda cute!!
Has this anime been licensed yet?
maybe the out of sync sound in the vid is done on purpose since youtube has extreme copyrights buttsecks machine that operates 24/7
good song BTW
awsome song
Kinda annoyed that the rest of her work isn't like this at all...
This reminds me of M83
Anyone else?
wait wait wait
there are people who don't like Madoka?
the lip sync, her singing isnt matching the video, its known as Lip Sync, she looks like bruce lee in martial arts films "Want to fight?" (lips still moving) "Fight with me!"
Audio is fucked up.. lots of cutting
I went to school with this girl hahah
UTM
@REXanadu Except that maderpa is overrated tripe and it shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Kaiba or Kino's Journey
yeah.... me too. i vote for chikako watanabe more than her for yamapi
Not bad, but i like "follow me" better, it has more jpop feel
nah cause they match the song just delayed
Do a video review and stop hunting people for their thoughts.

grrrrr...it bugs me that she is his girlfriend..but still like her voice :)
it's not like we could da anything against it, isn't it?
what wrong with you peoples?? if you like it pls turn it on otherwise shut it down... nobody sing or perform horrible, you peoples make yourself look horrible instead!!! stuff being posted mean to be share not to be urglized.

Oh man, Kaiba, such a pretentious little anime. *activates trap card*
Its damn beautiful
the song is yea
also the anime, Its like equivalent to 13 Gen Urobuchi shows
Looking complex and being simple is not necessarily pretentious, and let's be honest, they definitely weren't looking to impress considering the art style they chose. It turned a lot of people off from the show since it looks vastly different from most anime.

ISneezeRazorBlades
it had a lot of symbolism that meant nothing, now that's what they used to impress people otherwise why did they use it?
