Ahh the memories of being a kid in the 70's. What a great time and tv was much better back then. Being home sick from school and watching daytime tv(except my mom watching soaps). I remember her watching Guiding light, Young and the Restless and Edge of Night in the afternoon. Thanks for the memories!
Oh my gawd! I knew the words to every commercial, could whistle along with every jingle, knew just about every character in the shows, and could remember watching almost every single one of these as a kid. I probably should have gone outside more...........

I remember my father telling me that "the best time in life was when I could put my feet under my mom & dad's dinner table". Now I understand what he meant by that! Ahhhh, childhood, alotta time was wasted wanting to be GROWN UP!. LOL. Thank you for posting, it WAS a nice time to be a kid!

Dark Shadows! Man, when I was a real little kid, my Mom worked at a local Woolworths so my oldest sister (in high school) used to watch me and one of my other sisters after she got out of school and this show was a daily staple for us at 4PM. It scared the heck out of me back then but I still remember that big TV in the living room with the turntable and radio, I think it was a RCA and back then a 25 inch screen seemed huge! Later I watched the entire series when it had its run on the Sci-Fi Channel. Great memories thanks for posting!

I watch it on Tubi now. I was too young to understand the original run, but I did know my babysitters were always talking about Barnabas.

How I miss the good old days I want to go back once again enjoy my childhood, I don't know we want to grow up fast

Wonderful! Memories of staying home from school, and hoping you could stay out just "one more day, PLEASE?" OMG Dark Shadows! Loved that show...even had the board game---but it got thrown out! Oh well, thanks for these great vids....some of these shows I missed until we got "cable" in the late '70's---our three channels and the L.A. stations.
Not only do I recognize everything, some of it still gets a physical reaction - the Capt. Kangaroo song makes my stomach flip because I know the school bus is almost here. And so many of these clips were from when my people were all alive, and most were young. I miss them.
No, I watched Captain Kangaroo from 8 A.M. to 8:30, and then I would turn it off and walk up the hill to go play in the playground early, in my time school didn't start until 9 A.M.!

The reruns of the Dick Van Dyke Show were on when I came home from school for lunch. I also remember watching the reruns of Bewitched at 12 o'clock when I was at another school before I went back to class at 12:30. Nowadays it's Who's My Baby's Daddy, paternity, and lie detector tests.

I love old time commercials I was born June 30th 1962 I am 56 years. old now and the old time tv there's alot good memories I had fun when I was little and my brother Marc and I had fun when we were little

Whats just as memorable as the shows are also the classic jingles! Doesnt seem to be as frequent today but im sure the youth may have some favorites of thier own just as we do. Great compilation and thank you for creating it.

I don't know how you did it, but I loved it so much! Thanks so very much for sharing such wonderful memories, some of which I forgot I even had. I sang right along with every commercial and magically knew every jingle and motto by heart. Your blast from the past made me smile ear to ear!
It certainly did that, I even turned my 19 year old son (happens to be named Johnny), on to your videos and he really got a kick out of them. It helped him understand an era that he knew was mine and that he always thought would be cool to live in. Thanks again!

You've captured the era perfectly. It reminds me when mom and dad were at work and my grandmother watched us when were little kids. These are the programs we watched in the U. S.

An excellent compilation of what was on TV during the daytime back when Daytime TV was worth watching. I miss the days of tuning in to see a Lucille Ball comedy show, a fun & entertaining game show or even Dark Shadows for drama. Nowadays, Daytime has become a vast wasteland of sleazy talk shows, cookie-cutter judge shows & woman-oriented gabfests.

Part of the joy of being home from school sick or summer vacation when I was a kid was daytime TV. I loved the game shows. Nowadays, it's judge shows or talk shows. Damn, I miss the old days.
I never watched the soaps much. My mom started watching "General Hospital" in '73 and I got interested in it because of a murder mystery storyline that started. I even figured out who did it before the big reveal. It was pretty easy, all the suspects, save for one, were all major characters in the show at the time. On the day of the big reveal, just before the name was announced, I looked at my mom and said it was Savannah, or whatever the character was. Mom looked at me amazed and asked how I figured it out. I just told her what I said here. You have it be one of the major characters, that would be stupid. This character who was the murderess was a new one. Easy to write out.

I remember seeing Beat the Clock and Mister Magoo and Bozo the Clown and Beany and Cecil and My Favorite Martian in the mornings too. It must have been between 67 and 75 because I wasn't alive until 66.
Wow, I can't believe how much TV I watched as a child growing up. I recognized every show and commercial on this video!
Thank you so much for putting this together!! Even thou I was born in 73, I remember in the late 70's early 80's watching a slew of these great shows as a kid. I remember one of our independent stations WITI Ch. 18 use to have a 4pm-7pm block of old shows like Gidget, Family Affair, Courtship of Eddie's Father, That Girl and The Patty Duke Show. I hate TV today, nothing but garbage. The networks don't give a darn anymore, just stupid useless talk shows and reality TV. Thanks again!!
What an familiar and sweet old sound that was-the sound of the channel knob being turned!!! I haven't heard that sound in years! I can still hear our dad sternly telling us kids "leave that TV set alone. Only your mother or I are allowed to turn the channel so you keep your hands off!" Our parents were proud that they managed to buy a color TV set for the family, and our dad was petrified that one of us kids would somehow break it if we tried to turn the channels ourselves! I think a lot of parents didn't want thier kids touching those expensive color TV set back in the 60s and 70s! Thanks for posting!

So many great memories..I was quite a tv addict ..I didn't have a good home life..so all those shows were escapism.

Every Time I go to one of you posts... It brings back the memories! You really manage to catch a true cross-section of the period! (Back when TV wasn't always good... but it was endearing!)

Donna Reed was so beautiful, Hazel was so smart, and I wanted to live in Mayberry, of course it would be nice to have Samantha's power. Love all your memories keep up the good work.
+Marty Andrews Well on the Columbia lot where it was filmed Hazel was 5 houses down from Donna Reed, 4 doors down from Father Knows best ( and Later I Dream Of Jeannie ), 3 Doors down from Dennis The Menace 2 doors down from the Partridges and next door to Samantha. Great job with this and the Sat. morning compilation. The only thing I missed were show in syndication like Flintstones, Gilligan's Island, Addams Family, Munsters, Beverly Hillbillies, Batman, Dragnet, Perry Mason, Patty Duke, Father Knows Best, Lost in Space, Brady Bunch, I Dream of Jeannie; talk shows like Mike Douglas & Merv Griffin; & other game shows like Truth or Consequences, To Tell the Truth...there's of course always MORE & you fit so much in already. Enough to do a part 2. Thank you!
Johnnyboy, It'sw amazing to think how during the '50's & '60's in my house, we had one TV and yet me, my sister(2 yrs older), mother and father all managed to watch every night without major battles. Did we all get along better 45 years ago or were the shows that good that everyone could agree on something that we all liked? Amazing, sitting alongside of my parents watching the "Patty Duke" show and then Perry Como right afterwards. What a great time!!!

Argh ! You did so well - even including Dark Shadows - but you left off the most important rerun of them all, the one that every kids watched after school somewhere from for a couple decades: Gilligan's Island. The timeslot varied a bit between markets but was usually about the same general time as Match Game and lose later afternoon shows. It was definitely targeted at the elementary school kids coming home and plopping down before maybe going outside or whatever.
Oh God, the Roger Thorpe years on Guiding Light were the best.
Oh, if someone would start a TV channel that would show only shows from the 50s, 60s and 70s, it would be the only channel I would watch. Even game show reruns would be cool. I grew up watching these and they are so much better than the crap on TV now. Oh dreams and wishes.

+crystal miller the channel BUZZR shows game shows from the 60s, 70s, and 80s-and with the black and white ones from the 60s sometimes they even show some of the original commercials.
+tracey mallard we have ANTENNA TV, ME TV, DECADES, and COZI-but the only one I watch is ME TV, I used to watch ME TV and ANTENNA TV but now they've started to "crunch" the closing credits. AndI've NEVER watched COZI and DECADES because they show everything with those black bars on both sides for some reason.

The woman running out of the audience on The Price is Right (7:42) looks quite a bit like the mother/wife from Married with Children.

At 8:53, younger viewers may recognize Captain Kathryn Janeway of *Star Trek Voyager*. Well before that (mid 70’s), Kate Mulgrew played the role of Mary Ryan on the daytime soap opera Ryan's Hope. Never watched Ryan's Hope - only saw commercials. Was in Europe while Voyager was on (finally saw the series on Amazon).
Wow! As a trekkers, I thought that was Kate Mulgrew (Orange is the New Black). I didn't watch Ryan's Hope much (just a place holder for Luke and Laura on All My Children) but I loved the name Siobhan soooooo much!
You had more channels to show more daytime crap than we dd here in the UK......I was hypnotised the first day I watched US TV in 1980..........I loved Bob Barker...years later one of the game show announcers (Don Morrow ) became a good friend of mine.....he is still doing well in his 90's...

You can still find many of the old sitcoms and game shows on tv but the old commercials and clips of old soap operas really took me back! How do you explain to kids that things like smoking on planes and “ancient Chinese secret” were once a thing?

I loved staying home from school with an illness (real or fake) so I could watch all the game shows: Hollywood Squares, Let's Make a Deal, the Newlywed Game, the Dating Game, You Don't Say, Password, the Price is Right, Match Game. My mom loved her soap operas, mostly on CBS, I loved Dark Shadows & would rush home from school to catch at at 3:30 (it came on after the Secret Storm). In the morning she would watch the Mike Douglas Show (anyone remember that?) and I'd sometimes watch Merv Griffin in the afternoon if he had someone interesting on. Now you can get hundreds of channels through cable or satellite, but we found plenty to watch on TV with just 3-4 channels (and in isolated areas of the US, some people couldn't get even that many).
Me & you both Wendy.... always looked forward to staying home from school... who cared about being sick ? LOL. With the recent core scare I spoke to my 11 year old neighbor who's staying home getting his school work online. He said he misses school. I thought, man times have really changed LOL. Thank so much for tuning in :)

Many of the older shows remained in syndication long after their prime time network runs ended, and some, such as "I Love Lucy", remain classics today. In the pre-cable days of the late 1960's/early 1970's, many of these old shows aired either during the daytime hours on the networks, or on independent UHF stations, many which started broadcasting in the late 1960's. Because of syndication, many popular 1950's and 1960's shows were rerun well into the 1970's and later.

Thanks so much for the nod to some of the classic soap themes that were so PERFECT. I simply would have died if you had included a bit of the LOVE OF LIFE opening with the flowers in the window, or the classic opening from ATWT with that beautiful blueish turning globe. It was all just so incredibly good back then. I just continually don't understand what's happened to TV.

I was born on 1/17/1965 & hail from Escanaba,Michigan.Thanks alot for posting.I grew up seeing those for real.We also had Cable TV then.We had WKBD from Detroit,Ted Turner's Superstation WTBS from Atlanta,& later WGN from Chicago.Also it was served by Green Bay Stations & one from Marquette & Traverse City,Cadillac.I watched about 2 of my favorite shows a day on these.

No problem johnnyboy72. I'm so glad that I was born in 1957. If I had been born ten, fifteen, or even twenty years later, I would have never experienced these commercials. Today's generation doesn't know what they missed.
Thanks for the memories most of these shows were dubbed into Latin American Spanish as Bewitched, Leave it to Beaver, Superman the original series, I Love Lucy, etc. So, I can say that most of us children grew up watching American tv, the best in the world in those years.

Those first run shows prior to 67 were playing as reruns during the daytime from 67 to 75. I get it now!

67-71 were my high school years and I had the late block so I had to run home from school so I wouldn't miss Dark Shadows. I'd forgotten how annoying those "ring around the collar" commercials were..lol. Missed TV from 71-73 while in Germany with my Army hubby so was glad I never got hooked on day time soaps. Again, thanks for letting me relive these great times, Johnnyboy!

Great editing! Just enough of each to jog my memories. Wish you could've had the $10,000 Pyramid and a mid-'70s-era Phil Donahue opening instead of those '80s versions of those two shows. I had forgotten a lot of these commercials, but, like most of those shows, almost all came right back from the dusty reaches of my memory. Thanks.
