- Roger Daltrey of The Who, then promoting his second solo album Ride A Rock Horse, appeared on the children's TV program Wonderama Aug. 24, 1975. This is about a millionth generation but I cleaned it up the best I could and edited out the Tommy clip and music videos (you can find those elsewhere on RUclips in much better condition). Director Jeff Stein originally intended to use part of this as Roger's segment in the movie The Kids Are Alright but it was dropped to keep down the length of the film.
I turned 7 years old that day… and, man! Do I love Roger Daltrey!
This is one reason why Wonderama was great. It was a show for little kids (10 and younger), but it would feature adult discussions like this. And he got a lot of hip guests who were charming to both the kids and the parents, What I loved about Wonderama and McAllister as a host was that it and he acknowledged that kids were kids, but our lives were just as meaningful as adults Rather than looking at kids as kids, he respected them as future grown-ups, and allowed kids glimpses into the adult world that didn't treat them like kids. The show also gave parents a break from the constant inanity of weekend morning TV, by throwing them a bone. When celebrities appeared on PBS kids shows, they pretty much acted on the level of 7 year olds. I preferred Wonderama because it helped me aspire to be an adult.
💯
He had the song "Kids Are People Too."
I remember watching this show when it was actually on television. Later when I was a teenager Roger Daltrey was my biggest crush - after Tommy. Would love Tommy to come back to concert with the Who.
Love Roger more now than ever but even I had to laugh when they introduced him and only one person clapped!
That's because the kids from that show didn't listen to The Who.
Jon Applegate this part was filmed in front of crew, only 🙂

Roger Moore ?
This is awesome, Roger Daltrey on Wonderama. I grew up watching the show, loved it as did many other children back then.
The big jump was coming in less than a year. Punk!
Got that right. You're wording is perfect.
I laughed.
I was at this show and Daultry was not there !! The prerecorded segment was shown on a few small tv's they had there. Marvin Hamlish was there and was very entertaining. I was 11 years old.
Oh no 🤭
I was 9! LOVED this show.
kids shows in the 70's were hip enough to put on the big stars not just the flavor of the week teen sensations or little kids singing the top current songs by the big stars
I watched this when it aired. I can’t believe someone actually posted it. Amazing.
Young blue eyes! *sigh* and that smile....
Punk Rock was a year away. Roger was spot on.
I saw this when it was originally aired! I was 10! WOW!!! Thanks for posting!!
I have been trying to remember the name of this show specifically for this performance for 15 years. I remember watching this when it first aired. I was 11 and had just recently went by myself to watch the movie Tommy.
Yep, the best times for us old cats, was 10 at the time this interview, always watched Bob! LOL
Love Wonderama and The Who!
I was in the Wonderama audience for a filming in 1975 when Donald O'Connor was the guest star, and someone from Baskin-Robbins too.
Hey kids, you too can be a rock star. This is how you juggle a mike!
Lovely guy! Back when rock stars were genuine and not controlled by publicists.
I went to the taping of this show. I was 12 and a big fan of the Who. When I got there and heard that Roger Daltrey was to be a guest, I was very excited, but his segment turned out to be taped. A let down, though I did get to meet Marvin Hamlisch, there in the flesh.
I was at this show too !!! Yes Daultry was not there. They showed him on a a few little TV'S they had there.
He is so cool! I would love to sing with Roger Daltrey, I would love to hang out too! One cool bean!!
I bet the technical staff were freaking out when he swung the mic around!
I used to watch Wonderama whenever we visited our cousins in NJ. Never did get to see Roger but I liked the show just the same :).
I remember this.
Thanks Bob for turning me on to The Who ! ( I was 12 )
This show was meant for kids but never played down to them. Always had great guests, performances, and discussions.
Insane!
I think Bob Mcallister just fell in love...
Bob was fantastic.
Wow, that's an amazing clip. As a classic rock fan and as a kid in the 60s who loved Wonderama, this is special.
Classic TV! I saw this when it came on the teevee! Regular viewer of the show!
If he isn't the epitome of what a rock star should look like, then I don't know what is... he's gorgeous!
wow! Roger predicted punk 1:35 to 2:05
WTTG in DC area... yeah, I watched this show often back then... Wonderama was a great 'kids' show...
4:44 awkward
I cringed a little...
😂😂😂😂 the interviewer 😂😂😂😂 blue eyes and blonde beautiful hair,,,, no wonder the interviewer comments,,, Roger was,, is beautiful,,, and comes across very humble and likeable,,, I watched an interview with him recently and he still comes across as very easy to get on with,,, which speaks volumes
He's now 77. When he looks back at this video, I wonder what he thinks, nostalgia?
Is that still Bob McCallister? OMG, I used to watch that show back in the late 60s when they always played the witch doctor song. I'm surprised he didn't have Roger open up a fake peanut can of snakes.
You know, I seem to remember seeing this. Weird to see this again. You'd think such a big star like Roger wouldn't have appeared on such a small-time show like Wonderama, but hey...nice anyway.
Small time show????????????????? Every kid with a tv, in the NYC metropolitan area watched Wonderama!!!!!! Comment Reported!!!
Thanks for posting this Brian.

Hey Brian,
I came across this by looking up WHT, a movie channel here in NY back in the early 80s. I watched Wonderama (with Bob McAllilster...this host) every Saturday morning. Thanks for the clip.
See ya,

Watched this one.
Terrific upload, thanks so much!! :D
4:48 Bluest eyes of anyone he has ever seen :)0
Kind of a lull right now...wow..so much was still to come with..Punk, the 80s wave of music, Heavy Metal....The 80s and 90s were a bountiful of music. Today music is a pile of crap.
Bob's in the green coat uniform!
An audience of one......wow....
Thanks Roger for putting up with Bob's BS
This channel is genius. Hiw do yiu find this stuff?
Holy Shee-it! Roger Daltry on Wunderama?
This show was never that cool when I watched it as a kid from the late 60's to the early 79's.
In fact, the coolest guest I recall then was (cringe) Neil Sedaka.
BTW: the great Bob McAllister really hits the ball out of the park in this interview, even predicting the future insane salaries soon to come for atheletes.
o.m.g.!
who booked him? post sesame street show with Daltry talking like its an MTV [early, moon-man years MTV, that is} talkin about long hair and touring to 7 yr olds???
wow, the 70's WE'RE good! i just didn't know it cuz i was 4
MTV was about 5 yrs off.....we had some videos though...shows like hulla baloo, the old grey whistle stop, sat. night live , soul- train....but back then you could see the dead, or allmans live for $5!!!!!!...saw the who in 1979 for $8 in new haven
Carollynn Kreutz Cohen The 70s WERE good. So good. 🌼😀🌼😀🌸😀❤️❤️
What was there only one person in the audience?
@SnugglySara He is one sexy man.... I love my Roger!!!!!
There is ONE person clapping (probably the cameraman or director?) for when he is announced and comes out! lol wtf?!!! crazy days!
Oh my God he's flirting so hard with Roger! Good lord, who wouldn't titter like a school girl and comment on his blue eyes when faced with him IRL? At least he makes it past gibbering, which is all I would muster...
I can tell you from experience that he’s very easy to talk to- he’s very kind, warm, friendly and down to earth.
I found this, looking for: Professor Fingerhiemer... He had a song on this show.
It was so gay... I was 15 when Roger Daltrey did this show. I remember this. Too cool.
I wonder if he knew then that musicians (with a clue), would answer "Roger Daltrey" when listing their favorite influences.
Found this by accident...happy I did because just yesterday? I found a video of my high school and the style hadn't changed at all since class of '83. He was wearing the same "The Who" t-shirt kids wore when graduated.
Guess people haven't received their Daily dose of Rock & Roll any more since this Country has turned into Sheople!
The blue eyes comment was a little....uh....weird.
Him and Lennon have the same style of voice
@spikeri812 That's how I feel.
very strange kind of dialogue for a kids show. I used to watch this show when I was a pre schooler. How many of this show's audience could be Who fans at that age? I like the interview though, it seems very sincerely done.
If he had black hair, you might think he was Russell Brand's father!
Who is to say he isn't? Like Ben Kweller looks strangely like Pete......
Good
lol he totally was!
and now we have american idol...UGH
'The Who by Numbers' (1975) was a disappointing album to me. I think they had too many irons in the fire to put out a good album that year. It's kind of a drag to listen to. Every song other than squeeze box and slip kid is Pete sounding super depressed.
