Not many interviews will you see a lead singer bragging about the drummer eh.
Jimmie Young
Townshend never misses an opportunity to minimize Moon's talent, while Daltrey never misses an opportunity to praise it.
Why does this have so many likes? Townshend always praised Moon (not to the level of Entwistle), he did talk a lot of smack to Daltrey though.
thats because not many lead singers are/were in a band with Keith Moon
My band
Not all lead singers had a Keith Moon!
Roger is the Ultimate down to earth Rock N' Roll Good Guy
5 years too late, but i think he always just seemed like the dude in the band who wanted to just jam, and play some sick tunes with his friends/brothers
Brian Johnson is up there.
@@anneominous7172 I agree
Clarkson isn't being a sycophant with what he's saying. He really does love The Who and Daltrey, and thinks that Quadrophenia is the best album ever made. It's like seeing a schoolboy meet his hero
Che Guevara love Jeremy EVEN MORE and Roger has always been so humble as Pete gets allnthe glory then Keith then John all soloing together onstage and Roger was able to sing loud enough to still be heard, live at Leeds has Entwistle so loud its HILARIOUS!! Love that sweet honest Londoners laugh!!! Oxoxo
The Who are the greatest rock and roll band of all time, I fucking love Clarkson even more now!
Exactly.
Who's not a Who fan.
Pun intended.
Bit of Who trivia.....
The only member of the Who Who didn't drive was Entwistle.
The Ox.
Sorry for the second dear boys.
Couldn't help meself.
See, that's where Jezza is wrong, the greatest album ever made is Zeppelin II, Quadrophenia is like number six or something like that, still an epic album tho!
@mustafawee
That didn't stop him from getting behind the wheel and accidentally killing Neil Boland when they were being attacked by skinheads.
The guilt haunted Keith for the rest of his life.
Clarkson: "$50,000.00 in 1967?!'-Daltrey:"It was on the 2nd floor!!!" HELL YEAH! Moon was the man.
And to think how much better he'd have been THE MAN if he hadn't killed himself...
I think Daltrey got this mixed up, I've read it was $5,000.00 and that seems to be about right when you consider inflation and value.
He's embellishing a bit. The pool wasn't on the second floor. There are photos.
@@loosilu Not of the car. Nobody ever saw it in the pool.and everybody at the party denies it evner happened. Besides Keith left the party early, because he broke a tooth and went to the dentist.
Why is someone "the man" for smashing stuff up?
This is easily one of the most adorable interviews in TG's history. Clarkson is trying so hard to keep his cool, I love it
+StupidBlech He looks like a boy on christmas morning.
+gertiblitz everybody loves Roger! is the man and viril icon
Favourite TG interview.
seems like a laid back guy has not let the fame go to his head :)
He is very down to Earth. Met him a couple years ago at a benefit show he did in Orange County, Ca. The dude drove his own old 1940's Mercedes tour bus to the show and backed it into the loading dock. Nobody does that!
I’ve met him twice. I was very lucky - the first time was at an screening of 'Tommy' for the fortieth anniversary of the release of the film, in Whitley Bay. The second time was at the Champagne tasting because he decided to commission a Cuveé for charity. The first time he said a few words to me, gave me a hug and kisses on the cheek - the second time he greeted me like he knew me 'Hello darlin', how are you doing?' gave me a little hug and talked to me for a while. He really is kind, warm and friendly.
EXACTLY!!!!!
Thing is I like about Roger is that despite his phenomenal career, he can still have a laugh like a fella down the pub. Great man.
A really down to earth fella
“They didn't know what they were doing”
“They didn't know what we were doing”
“But they didn't know that we didn't know what we were doing”
Mannnnn that really was a hell of a time to be alive
Roger Daltrey a Rock God who stilll stands with two feets on the ground.
Considering Clarkson is such a huge star himself, it's kinda fun to see him fanboy over someone else :)
Yes!
Leonardo Bruno No, the Who ! Pay attention, you idiot.
Leonardo Bruno No, the Who ! Pay attention, you idiot.
Lead singer of The Who beats television game show host.
He isn't on the same plane as Roger. He is a mere TV star.
Daltrey and Plant are undoubtedly the best front men ever
They ARE the greatest band ever! No one can compare to Peter Townshends' writing, Johnny Twinkle's exceptional bass playing, Keith Moon's eccentricity and Rogers' scream and rock god status. I fucking love this band!
Twinkles? hahahahaha
Roger has been sober most of his career. I know in the early years if any member of the band does drugs, he'll punch them. Fists, the anti-drug. Stay straight Roger. You are a role model.
Boring
The Who rocked harder than Led Zeppelin. They just did.
And if you disagree, you haven't listened to The Who enough.
johnbazy ♡
Wrong. I don't disagree because it is not opinion is is just a fact. Led Zeppeli best band EVER
The Who were a high energy band. More so than Zeppelin, which were great, but different. The Who’s sound was driven by Moonie.
Jimmy Page vs Pete is a toss up...Roger vs Robert/I give the edge to Roger...Bonham vs Moon/Moon wins...and the Ox way over anyone playing bass for Led Zepplin...like Roger said NO CONTEST.
lindy frank agree to an extent, Roger vs Robert is hard but yeah I’d give it to roger. Moon vs Bonham well that’s to hard to decide. John vs JPJ, well I think the ox was a better bass player but JPJ was more than just the bassist in the band. And a Pete Townshend vs Jimmy page? That’s the only no brainier here, Jimmy is regarded as one of the best ever, always in the top 3 rated. Pete is great but not on JP level
no contest the who is better than zep
Easily one of the Greatest voices in Rock and Roll History and a signature of the Who's sound.
What a lovely man Roger Daltrey is. He was rigtht you know...Keith did all that stuff first! Bless Keith. RIP dear boy!
Just saw The Who Saturday night in Columbus, Ohio -- my 10th time, 1982 at Shea my first -- and although they may have lost a step or two still THE BEST live band on the planet. Great stories in between songs and the "lads" seemed to be enjoying themselves. Especially since this is probably (sadly) the last circus tour! Many thanks, Roger & Pete -- been a great ride!! BE LUCKY!!!
My husband went to that 82 show! The Clash opened for them!
Shea was my first concert ever! George Throughgood or someone like that, The Clash, and the glorious Who. Changed my life. Long live Rock!
... and 2015 (your post) definitely wasn't their last tour!
Wow this guy has such a good humour. Enjoyed listening to him
he is the lead singer of the loudest and the greatest band of them all. THE WHo
He still looks pretty fit and coherent for a 1960's-era Rocker, lol...
Roger was never the indulger like so many of his era
awww roger is so small i love him
457Melly Roger loved a good scrap. Never backed down. Cool as.
I know eh sweet too
Most of us musicians are pretty small, we make a lot of noise and jump about so the women can´t ignore us :-)
-Roger is more then a "ROCK LEGEND" he is also a fantastic actor. He was fantastic in the Highlander episodes. The series was great, but when Roger & Adrian were together it was some of the best Television ever. Cheers to you Roger, and Thanks for the music & the Television.
That was so adorable how the host hugged him at the beginning. Obviously a huge fan. I've never seen this show before but will be looking for more episodes. It must be great with a Who fan for a host!
This guy is the coolest Londoner since... er....
Roger Daltrey is an absolute hero of mine. Met him too - he's lovely. Doesn't he look fantastic. The Who is the best rock band of all time - EVER!!!
Daltrey is a wonderful story teller. WONDERFUL.
beating up of the vicar trick. long live keith
What do you mean long live Keith? He's stone cold DEAD, has been for decades!
Fucking hilarious
Turrrrrwaaat
That bit nearly had me in tears laughing. Pure Gold ^_^
isn't roger so cute here looks so young for his age.
daltrey look a lot younger than jeremy
Clarkson is a huge fan. Love this and love seeing him genuinely excited.
Good God, how does this guy keep his sense of humor? Lovely bloke.
He has an epic laugh!
i love it! haha
"they don't know what they doin, we dunno what we doin" XD
A real fanboy moment for Jezza!
Roger is a rock god and Jeramy is a tv presenting god
Roger's the man
+SlowScizor I agree. Pure class.
Saw the who 2 nights ago my god Roger's voice was on. He never smoked go figure
He used to smoke like a chimney! I'm glad he eventually gave it up...
And his laugh is really infectious. Seems like a top guy.
Matt Rizma I can tell you that he is... I've met him twice! He's absolutely lovely.
Rog is so bloody cute. Seriously, what a nice guy! Would love to meet him. And that hug at the beginning really emphasised his height....5'5 I believe...
I had the honour and pleasure of meeting him just over a month ago - and I got a hug! He is truly lovely - warm, friendly and down to earth.
He admits to 5'7" - but Who cares?!
+Bainbridge40 5'6 not 5'5
and Jeremey Clarkson is a big guy, i think he is nearly 2 meters tall.
I saw him again the other evening! I managed to chat with him for a while! He's every bit as down to earth and 'normal' as he seems here. Truly a lovely guy.
Roger's great, he always comes across well in interviews.
His singing voice is so much different than his talking voice!
I served Roger when I worked in my local shop, he lives in the area. Oh and in case you were wondering...he bought some cheddar and some wine ;)
Not a fish and chip shop then 😂
That was a really cool interview and Roger was hauling ass in that piece of shit car!
Back in the 60s I was the Small Faces roadie and they were great mates of The Who, we both had gigs in London and met after work at a mews flat behind Harley Street. It was a WHO's girlfriends birthday and her record player packed up, she asked what we would do for music. Stupid question we had two van loads of gear parked in the mews. Well volume got out of hand as it does, and the MET turned up two coppers got out and asked whet the hell was going on. We told the story and one wrote out a list and said, Play these three numbers and pack it up. well after we picked ourselves up from the road we passed on the message.
Just saw The Who a few weeks ago in Philly for their hits 50 tour. It would be really cool if they had Pete on top gear too.
You and I were at the same concert then!
Short...but so beautiful it just doesn't matter. And I'm only 5' 3' tall, so he didn't seem short to me when we met. LOVED gazing into those eyes...and lookin' up a little bit to do it!
Daltrey is a Rock legend
"You are a pensioner..?" "No!" He looked so offended.. lol
He is now :)
I don't blame him. He's worth $85 Million. Through hard graft and also gives to charities.
.He's probably paid enough tax to keep a hundred pensioners going.
Moon was a better drummer than bonham, entwistle was a bass giutarist, paul-jones ( session player) was a bass player. page & Townsend were both great, so were daltrey & plant.
@MaxHanno My Opinon - The Who is SOOO MUCH BETTER than Led Zep
I love Roger Daltrey...utterly brilliant bloke
I saw The Who in concert a year or two after this interview in Philly! Amazing show and some of the best rock ever!
*Jealousy Intensifies*
He has an Epic laugh! :D
I'd love to see a movie about the who, but only up untill Keith passes. It would be so interesting
roger daltrey has always got amazing hair..... 30 through to 60!
Pete said they were banned from Holiday Inns and his family were refused a stay once. You can tell Clarkson is absolutely in awe
Another excellent guest star appearance interview by Jeremy. And Roger Daltrey is so down to earth. Thank you.
Old rock stars on Top Gear are almost always great fun and have brilliant stories to tell.
A DAMN NICE LAD!
why is there such a huge distance between roger and jeremy?
2 of my favorite guys.
God, yes I could imagine it! He was the bad-ass. That is why, I'd guess, his candle had burnt too quickly. However, Mr. Daltrey did very well.
This interview raises an important question, is it possible to hate a person who has exactly the same musical tastes as yourself?
roger daltrey is a legend who not only made good music and lived it up who has also supported charity with his own money and now has his own country life to live out his older days when he wants it his own fishery supports the countryside as well top man in my eyes......he is what all the young musicians want to be for a reason
Youd like him as a mate
I like Led Zep but the Who is far better, always has been always will be.
LOVE Daltrey's laughter!
Roger is brilliant &
he has the sexiest voice ever...
7:38 i love to hear someone laugh from deep down in the stomach. always puts a smile on my face
I love Rogers laugh :D
Roger has such a cute laugh.
U can tell when Jeremy is genuinely in awe. He was.
Well done Roger ..(!)
I've watched this TV Show on and off (with my youngest son who loves it) ...
how does he manage to stay so young looking? What year was this?
gr8 interview
i just love "the who!" they don't make rock bands like that anymore
He looks so short in comparison.
Haha i love Roger Daltreys laugh! xD
clarkson looks absolutely chuffed haha. giggling like a school boy.
i was a fan of Daltrey from the Highlander series and then i found out Who he was and love the band too
I really love the Who, but I really HATE seeing anyone using them to back up their invalid arguments --- without the so-called "manufaturing" they would never become the Who you hear in records & live performances. This is part of modernity --- which the Britons first invented. Should be proud of it rather than dissing it; or, you have t quit making fun of those "developing" countries having different ethics for not having double standard and messing up your logic.
The guys a legend! One of the best front men in the business along with Freddie Mercury.
Isnt he a great guy or what?? :D
this was 10 YEARS AGO!
@mapscannotcontainme
I came back to this to quote that bit, they just dont make em like keith moon anymore lol, i wasnt around those days but i wish i was, life was more free
cool, they have roger daltrey on one of the collest shows on tv
50K in 1967 would be about 358K in 2016 according to the rate of inflation. WOW!
I think he's genuinely made an error, it was probably 5k
Roger is such a cool man. He's great x
He has got a bus pass, my dad hasn't and my dad looks ways older than Daltrey!
Roger Daltrey for knighthood.
I'm not the least bit bored! Thank you for the explanation - quite an interesting history. I used to study language history and I still enjoy learning the origins of slang. I remember when I heard Roger Daltrey call himself 'just a regular Shepherd's Bush geezer."
Yes, The Who is my favorite band.
Roger has charm and great humour...
this and Alice Cooper are my fave interviews on this show
@Pulsar205 It's funny, the movie "Tommy" is about that very thing.
Lovely Roger.... what a great guy, and an entertaining interview subject. And yeah, he's as short as Bowie and just as cute. ;-)
the feeling i get from pete and roger is that when one of those remaining two pass away, they wont spend the rest of their days killing their records like paul McCartney is doing.
Everyone from the who have always been genuine guys - roger is still the young lad he used to be, hes no different an nor is pete.
Happy Birthday, Roger Daltrey, 75 years, born 1st of March 1944.
Looks in great shape for 60 even.
Rog 😍
Ahhh Shepherds Bush...remember the market as a kid in the 1970s...nick your wheels on Friday night, flog it back to ya on Saturday morning 🤦♂️🤦♂️😂😂😂
Roger gave me a guitar lesson last week. I'm honoured aha :P
Just MY size. When I met him his presence made him seem taller than everyone in the room, but having him be only a few inches taller than me...fantastic! The better to gaze into those blues...
