- Опубликовано: 18 июн 2021
- Metroid Dread was announced during the Nintendo Direct E3 2021 presentation, and is a brand new 2D Metroid coming to the Switch in 2021. Since it's announcement, there has been a lot of debate over the price point of this new Nintendo Switch game being $60, and we are going to try and figure out why.

This has been a BIG debate online so I figured we would break it down! Are YOU buying Metroid Dread? Did you buy 2 copies like me? Lemme know!
I'll try.
Definitely buying Metroid Dread bro, 19 years in the making, the Metroid franchise was the originator alongside Castlevania for the "Metroidvania" genre; Metroid Dread is worth $60. A must cop.
I bought one copy and that's it I grew up with the gba games and funny enough never got to the GameCube ones.
It's worth $60 imo. I paid full price for Super Metroid, and it was worth every penny
No I'm not buying it. I'm don't buy two copies of a game unless if one copy breaks.
I'm proud to say that i was one of the million people that bought Samus Returns
Me too. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Dude they're actually under 700k people not 1 million it was very underated and I'm not even lying it's a hidden missile tank
I loved it
I bought it day one baby. And I loved every minute of it. And I never played the original. I have everything else but not the original
Me Too...#Salute
Ask the Metroid fans who have been waiting 350 years for a new game if we are bothered about paying 60
Cause news flash, we don’t give crap
take my money!! 🙌
I forked over $100 for the trilogy, I still play that so $60 won't be an issue
Happy to pay $60, pre ordered day one. 💗
some are willing to sell their souls just to have a new brand new Metroid game🤣
People: Metroid Dread shouldn't be $60!
Me: $60? I got that $90 special edition 😂
Lol
I totally get why newcomers would be turned off, but as a long-time fan I'd pretty much pay anything. I would have already ordered the special edition if it wasn't for low stock and scalpers
Big facts, I need those amiibo too 😂
In Canada 90$ is the normal version +tax
🤣🤣🤣that’s me
Its funny because if this were a new 2D Mario this wouldnt even be a discussion
It's because the New 2D Mario games are basically targeted towards children and old people. I feel like everyone collectively agreed that 2D Mario does not have a particularly good playtime/cost ratio. It's also because Metroid is a series that suffers in the sales department, and when you take something which doesn't sell, and put a high price tag on it, you're setting yourself up for a commercial flop.
@@gu3z185 I don’t get why people are always so hung up on playtime/cost ratios though. You can pay £50 for a 20 hour game and have wasted your time (I feel this way with Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright), just as you can pay £50 for a 5 hour experience and feel fulfilled.
@@meathir4921 I played Hollow Knight for 50 hours and loved it, played Dark Souls for 60 and loved it just as much. Having a good value doesn't mean that the game will be less fulfilling, but I agree that there's too much emphasis when it comes to playtime. Metroid games are very replayable anyway, so I don't see it as much of an issue.
People would 100% complain, even more so if it was a 2d Mario.
2d Mario would just sell better because most people who buy those games aren't clowns complaining on the internet.
Nintendo: Here’s Metroid Dread while you wait
Nintendo Fans: ITS NOT WORTH IT
Me: I’ll take your entire stock.
I'm more excited about this than Metroid Prime 4. 2-d Metroid is where it is at.
@@bluesfier7758 agreed 2d Metroid is just more atmospheric and better gameplay in my opinion I like both but 2d is the better of the two
I have all the Metroid games that have came out and I'm vary excited about this one regardless if its good or not
I suppose that the 60.00 price is a “calculation” on Nintendo’s part. They may figure that no matter the price, the majority of the sales will go to fans of the series, and that they won’t care that it’s 60 bucks. And in the case of this fan of the series, they are right! They can shut up and take my money 😂
Thats basically the case, if you think that a game wont interest a substancial new public, than the price wont change anything.
The game will sell if its marketed
Well, nobody can stop you from being anti-consumer, Sebastion. It is because of people like you that we have the game at sixty in the first place. Thanks?
@Jenny Melo The money from the wallets of Metroid fans are what has kept the series alive for the past decade, and it's the reason why this game exists at all. Anti-consumerism is not when somebody spends money on their favorite franchise.

60$ is fine. 2D is the real metroidvania, the way it’s meant to be
It's Nintendo. It's quality. It's not going to launch filled with bugs. (*Bloodstained*)
That's not nintendo's fault, luigis mansion 3 on the other hand wouldn't allow me to shoot fish into a birdcage without crashing (it got patched)
@@ZER0O9 I didn't. I bought I day 1 too.
this isn’t funny
Cough 2077 cough
The quality of the game is why it'll be worth the $60. Going back to the whole comment Shawn said about if you took Samus and the Metroids out and put it as an indie character would it be worth it... If Nintendo/Mercury Steam is making it, yeah it's still worth it. I wanna see more of this game. $60 is a very easy pill to swallow.
People paid $60 for Anthem, S.E Avengers, Balan Wonderworld, and Cyberpunk 2077.
Fallout 76, For Honor, Outriders... $70 for Godfall. Man this list can go on and on and people will never learn. It's not that hard to wait for a day one review at very least. And in this digital age, fomo should be non-existent.
Also smash ultimate
Ratchet and Clank....
Can you imagine buying balan?
@@cwise610 that was $70 for 6-8 hours of gameplay
$60 is fine….. we’ve literally been paying $60 for Wii U games for like 4 years
We paid 60 bucks for n64 games. I still want it cheaper.
@@cameron9643 to everyone that want it cheaper, theres only one way, not buy it. We are not talking about manipulative microtransaction but only a product sold for a price.
We? LoL
True.
@@CHIVA195 all the people in this comment section, so yup, we.
When I was a kid my Game Boy Advanced was my main console for a while. I played through Metroid Fusion at least 6 times. I’m looking forward to Metroid Dread and I plan on buying it on release day.
Metroid Zero Mission also!
Fusion is a great addition to the Metroid library
Metriod Fusion and Metriod Prime were my first Metriod games. I believe I played the Nes Metriod, but I was young so I didn't really play it.
I have only beaten Metriod Fusion and Metriod Prime and Metriod Prime 3 Corruption. I have tried Samus Returns but my Buttons are missed up on my 3DS so I quit.
Same here, Metroid Fusion was great.
I became so desperate for Metroid Prime 4 that I started buying a lot of Metroidvania games.
I don’t know why someone would just assume that because a game is not a 3D game it isn’t worthy of a $60 price tag. Back in the NES days all new games were approximately $50, for a major game like this. I would say the price is completely justified!
That was the past through the market has completely changed
So don't use it as a example to justify why it's worth it
Nintendo used to do all 2d games in the nes days also so does that mean all indie devs should use that to justify pricing their 2d games 60$ on the switch due to inflation?
No
When the NES was around, 2D games were top of the line. In 2021, 2D games are a relic of the past, and require very little time/money to develop compared to modern 3D games. So...they typically cost less to the consumer.
@@John6-40 your acting like 2D games dont have some if the best games out there
Now see I don't agree with that I can see Metroid prime being $60 but a 2d Metroid at this day and age the market is flooded with them for $20 time spinners 1,000 fights in the list goes on and on and I'm pretty sure that'Metroid too for the 3DS was only $40 which I think is reasonable like I said $60 for prime absolutely worth it but for a 2d game when the market is already flooded with them at budget prices$40 I could have seen and that's pushing it
The issue I have they’ll have a 2D metroid and metroid prime 4 at the same price, not worth it, should be $40
First we complain of the lack of Metroid games. Now when we're getting one, the price is an issue 🤦♂️. I'm happily gonna pay the $60, we need to show Nintendo how important this franchise is to us. And I know it will be worth it as long as the game is good.
Same, $60 is nothing for me lol
You nailed it. If this was NOT a Metroid game, I would not pay $60. I'm only buying it day one for the full price because it's Metroid and I am so happy to see this series return!
How much was Bloodstained?
@@bemersonbakebarmen $40
Is not just about being Metroid and having Samus. 2D games can have high production value. Coming from Nintendo one would expect something with a higher production value than a random indie game (I don't claim that's always worth it, but I have high hopes for Metroid).
People are out here willing to pay 60 for a wii port but not this 😭 if it’s a new game I think it’s worth 60.
I paid $50 for Super Metroid back in 1994. So when you adjust for inflation Metroid Dread is actually cheaper. Now I rarely if ever buy games for full retail. But as a fan who has bought every metroid game since the original NES game I will be buying this game day one.
I have been playing Metroid since the nes release and I have to say it’s a shame this franchise has not done better. The exploration and storyline are excellent and I can’t comprehend why more people are not even giving it a chance.
for me im just not a fan of those style of games, I did try it once on the GameCube but the games just never hooked me
I fell in love with the Prime Trilogy when it was released for the Wii U. Then, I played Super Metroid on my SNES Classic and Samus Returns and realized how amazing this franchise is. Metroid Dread can take my $63 (tax included).
With a game as amazing as Hollow Knight for $15, it's hard to pay $60 for any games.
@Greg's Retro Channel 2 in my opinion, people that will shell out the money on games just because, are the reason we get half done games and have to pay for the rest of it in "dlc".
@Greg's Retro Channel 2 🙄
@Greg's Retro Channel 2 Missed out on good games? How can you miss out on a game? You could easily play any of those right now, if anything you did what your old self wanted you to do. Now you can emulate any GameCube games or GBA games, you can just buy an old console if you're really feeling it.
@Greg's Retro Channel 2 i see Virginity wall is well protected 😂😂😂
it's a switch game, honestly not worried about graphics as long as its made well
My guy! I say this all the time! I'm glad others feel the same.
Same
Gameplay > Graphics
@@dashoot99 I only care about graphics for FPS games any thing else I could care less as long as the gameplay is good.
Since we got Ori it does feel like a missed opportunity to provide Metroid with the same level of art. Ori is probably lighter in performance as well.
This is a great thought experiment. Honestly, Metroid and F-Zero are the few franchises that I would personally pay an insane amount to own.
Metroid isn’t “Metroid-vania,” it’s the real deal: Samus, blue and green doors, High Jump Boots, Screw Attack, adventure, discovery, etc. And I’d like to believe THIS is what the players want. Indie games have the “feel” of a Metroid game, but they are only carbon copies.
At the end of the day, nobody can tell me how to spend my money 🤑
I can 😂 lol. Jk
I say buy it 😎
Been waiting 19 years, I don't give a flip how much it costs.
I’ve been waiting for this game since Super Metroid. Btw, can’t wait to see zoasty destroy this game.
"It's a 2D game. It shouldn't be 60 dollars."
It's a brand new Switch exclusive. Yes, it should be, regardless of genre. It's going to be a huge title.
Exactly its genre doesn’t define its value, Metroid is one of the best franchises in video games history, now that defines its value.
I just hope the amount of content is gonna be worth it in an age where games like Hollow Knight exists. I recall Samus Returns being quite short.
@@tastethepainbow Samus Returns was also a direct remake of a GB game. Plus, other Triple A studios produce games with 6 or less hour first playthrough stories and charge full price for them. So long as the game reaches a usual first time of 20 hours, it should be fine.
I hate that 2d games are thought of as simple or bad. 2D GAMES ARENT THE SAME AS THE DISNEY CHANNEL WEBSITE GAMES!!
@@tastethepainbow Samus Returns is longer than Fusion and ZM combined….
Literally the main thing that came to mind after the trailer for me was "that looks like it's worth 60 dollars"
I'm playing super metroid for the first time to prepare and its awesome
I'm a Metroid fan, but charging £50 for this when something like Hollow Knight was less than £20, is a little ridiculous. And I'll be amazed if Dread is anywhere near as good as Hollow Knight.
Agreed. I paid $20 for ori and the will of the wisps…which is one of my all time fav games. Itll be hard metroid to surpass that game imo
@Greg's Retro Channel 2 Look I get it, you're a Metroid fan and so am I, but don't downplay Hollow Knight. They have already demolished Metroid in terms of sales, selling 3 million copies, which is more than any of Prime's sequels sold.
The $60 price tag is what keeps me arguing with myself over the Link’s Awakening remake. I know I would love it, but I just can’t dedicate that much money to an almost 30 year old game.
Got links awakening on sale for 40 dollars it goes on sale one time a year so its going to be a long wait
In case you didn't know RGT bought the collectors edition and a digital copy
He has to say it a million times so that we gloss over the part where he says it’s going to fail
It's odd to me that people wonder if a 2D Metroid game will sell on the Switch when New Super Mario Bros U on the Switch has sold 10m copies. This will sell 3-5m easily.
If we want a greater chance of more Metroid games in the future, gotta get the game.
I think a lot of people are overestimating Metroid's popularity. Sure it's on the Switch, but the 3DS had a bigger install base and Samus Returns didn't sell that well on there. As it only sold 470,000 physical copies. While true we don't know the digital numbers. I'm going to guess it was somewhere around 500,000. So...I totally think you're overestimating it's popularity.
@@Hooked_on_Gyro dread almost sold a million on amazon before It's realiase, i think metroid has a big future now
@@sjue316 I hope with every Fiber of my being that you are Wrong. Samus Return's sales number are reflective of the Platform it was released on. @@Hooked_on_Gyro Again. You’re overestimating it’s popularity. I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think I am.
They really should have had someone port the 3DS Samus Returns and include it in the release.
I would gladly pay even more if this ment we are getting more sidescrolling metroid games, I have been waiting an eternity for this game to become a reality.
2D/3D isn’t a debate for price. Remember people have spent 60 dollars on the avengers game and cyberpunk 2077. Who actually cares if it’s 2D
Lol true, imagine paying for the Avengers game 🤮
@@PSBore Sadly I did 😔
Thank you it’s about the gameplay
2d cost much less than 3d devolpment wise
@@AkaySama it’s still 3D graphically though, it’s just a side scroller still. But they still have to texture and model everything in 3D
You can say “let’s take away Samus, the Metroid brand blah blah blah” but the whole genre is labeled “Metroid-Vania” or Metroid like because that name has that status in the industry and that genre of course. And the average game player has either played one of these themselves or has heard of a a hollow knight, blasphemous, dead cells, ori and the list goes on. Plus most people have by now seen some of the hype and story that’s built this game up. Also the switch boost is real. Games like Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Pikmin, Zelda, etc are selling the most of any other games in their respective franchises and this one will follow suit. Also you’re playing as Samus Aran, imo the best female protagonist in gaming history and I can’t wait to play Dread. I bought the special edition, a digital copy, and the amiibo pack personally. But yea to me it’s worth that money since
Okay but compared to prime in this day and age people are saying that this game should be 40 and not 60 because Metroid prime will be 60 bucks and I'm pretty sure Metroid prime will be the far superior game but that being said Nintendo knows that we'll pay the $60 to tie this over until prime and that's the bottom line
@@jamescaulfield6632 You don't know Prime will be better. Also, how many times do I have to tell people this. Value is subjective to the eye of the beholder. End of discussion.
@@jamescaulfield6632 Two completely different genres. Am I going to play this for the 500 hours that I put into Breath of The Wild? Probably not. Prime is first person action/shooter and this is obviously 2D. Don’t want either then don’t pay. You can get the FPS action game from Doom Eternal and a couple others at a cheaper price, but just like with the other Metroid likes, you’re not getting the story of Samus Aran and not playing a game in a franchise that’s 35+ years old at this point. And honestly most of them don’t have that first party Nintendo polish. Retro only puts out games running at rock solid 60FPS no matter the platform. Looking forward to both
@@itsRecreational Have you played a Metroid Prime game? Doom Eternal is completely incomparable, the game could be in 3rd person with fixed camera angles and it would still be identifiable as a Metroid game. There has been absolutely zero games that are similar to Metroid Prime since Prime 3 came out, which is why it's so exciting. The problem with this game being 60 is that Prime 4 has a gameplay model not seen for a very long time, where as Dread has a similar gameplay model to many indie games that released for 15 bucks.
@@gu3z185 But Metroid started the trend(alongside castlevania) hence the name "metroid-vania". It's also one of nintendos most popular franchise, and the other games sold quite well. I'd say it deserves the 60 dollar flag
5:06 False! Metroid (NES) and Super Metroid (SNES) came at full price ($60 back then!)
That's true, but to be fair, they were also AAA games at the time, or the equivalent to that rather. That said, my opinion is that Nintendo is inflating the price to offset the fact that Dread probably wont sell well. They're aware that the game has a guaranteed audience of dedicated fans. This makes it so they know they will turn a decent profit.
@@SethNeroBaker It's disappointing though, they're releasing Dread on a system with absolutely no Metroid games, they don't know how much a new Metroid could sell, and they pull this thing. In a perfect world, Nintendo would have ported Samus Returns for 40 bucks, the game would sell much better than it did on the 3DS, and Dread would be priced at 40 dollars with way more sales.
Actually back then most games were sold for $50 and much less often they went for more... but, $50 in 1990 was $102 in today's money, so actually, games are cheaper today? 😂
Sure, and a 133mhz PC costed 1500$. What is your point exactly?

2D Metroid games are some of my favorites so I'm happy to spend $60 on Metroid Dread. I totally understand that other people may not value it the same way, but Nintendo also sold Kirby Star Allies for $60 which was a 2D game that seemed to lack content. I appreciate your take on this that the people sniping at nintendo over the price tag are metroid fans that want the game to do well, but I doubt that's where the majority of this sentiment is coming from. It's a brand new nintendo switch title... of course it's a 60 dollar game. The people attacking the price tag, are simply attacking the game. Stating that it is not WORTH 60 dollars. Like you said value is subjective, and those indie metroidvania titles exist. However, this is a AAA Nintendo title, and it is obviously appropriately priced.
This is also Metroid not some indie wannabe Metroidvania. Nothing against those games but like this is the real deal.
I agree 100% with this take. Those games are valued as such because they are indie takes on an established formula. This game has been in development for 15+ years so the demand for it also warrants a bigger price tag. At the end of the day, if you feel that it "costs too mush", don't pick it up.

No person who has ever played a Metroid game will ever think it's not worth the full cost of a triple A title.
They are the highest quality games imaginable. The top of their league. The creator and still king of their genre.
I don’t think it’s worth it. But then again I don’t think many Games are. Maybe the Ori games, zeldas, pikmin, Skyrim, assassins creed, far cry and a few more. Big Games with full open worlds and fun to play.
Metroid is good but I didn’t even bother to finish samus returns. Got bored with it.

@@gu3z185 And, correct me if im wrong, but Sakamoto is also responsible for literally every other 2D game bar return of samus. But that's not to say it's going to be 100% gauranteed good. If Other M could be bad this could be bad. Just saying I don't believe his involvement is a contributant to it being bad.
@@TheMameBus Yeah, that's why I said most recent. He's had no opportunity to prove himself in the past decade, so I guess he's learned but there's no way to tell.
Metroid (and Advance Wars) did this to themselves. Ever since they went handheld these games haven't been more than $39.99, and additionally, 3rd party metroidvania games that have released since the last games in the series have not been full priced $60 games (I mean c'mon, when I can get Hollow Knight sub $15, what do you expect?), so the expectation has been set over years of pricing. I for one love both of these franchises, but I can't justify their full $60 price point. But that's my personal decision to not buy them, if someone else wants to and is excited for it, hey, more power to ya, I hope you enjoy it. It's no skin off my back how you spend your money.
You’re comparing Metroidvania games to an actual Metroid game? Come on!
12 minute video to say 'lol maybe it's worth it idk'
very cool
Yeah I'll buy it. I haven't played a Metroid game in like 20 years. This one looks cool!
Worth it unless you want "another" open world rpg with way to slow levelling up and pretty much useless perks.
We need a metroid 35th anniversery.
Its the only thing that i like about nintendo
I'm actually curious as to what the length of the game is going to be. The 2d metroids are my favorite because they're not long but they feel very repayable to me. My first run through of fusion was probably a good 4+ hours (I cant quite remember my first run-through, its been a good 16 years). With a 60 dollar price point, I wonder if they're going to stick with the 4 or 5 hour typical 2d metroid length or if they're going to make it longer.
RGT - "this game has spiritually been in development for more than a decade" LMAO
Duke Nukem Forever should been 180 dollars.
NOT worth 60 dollars! I'll wait till it drops to 40 dollars :)
Nintendo: Metroid never sells a lot of units
Also Nintendo: let’s charge $60
They charge that much for all their games. Doesn't matter if it's 2D, 2.5D, or 3D. I'm fine with it. The people complaining just need lives. They're charging $70 for Ratchet on Playstation and that's only a 12 hour experience from what I've heard.
@@sjue316 actually, people complaining DO have lives which is why they're not willing to part with hard-earned money to pay for just anything Nintendo throws at them. 😂
@@sjue316 at least Rachet and Clank is a current gen game in 4k with raytracing. A lot of Nintendo games struggle to reach 720p
@@DS9TREK Nintendo's own games don't struggle. It's all the third party developers that suck at development. Nice try.
@@DS9TREK This game will easily run at 720p portable and 1080p docked, remember that it's a sidescroller. You only have to load in half of a room at any given time, and the door system makes this even more likely. The only games that struggle with performance (not resolution, dynamic resolution isn't a thing that Nintendo does) are Breath of the Wild and SM Odyssey, just because of the huge worlds that this game most certainly does not have to load in all at once.
IMO, games like Ori and Hollow Knight are probably to thank for the increased interest in Metroid Dread due to the renewed popularity in 2D games. I hope this does well and I will likely be picking it up.
Do you think they could release the special edition with a digital download version also?
There is nothing wrong with Metroid dread being 60 dollars
It'll be $50 in my local Walmart. It's been in development forever and as long as the game is good and has the content it's fine. However, Advance Wars should be like $40 tho.
Metroid should be $40, Advance Wars should be $15, tbh.
@@John6-40 Advance Wars is two games though, 15 is undercutting it by a bit.
"Metroid Prme Hunters on tbe DS" is like saying your favorite Resident Evil is RE6.
you are the best, rgt! you are the first video i watch every morning while drinking my coffee
I’d rather pay $60 for the first *new* 2D Metroid in 19 years than shill out ANY money for live service garbage or new triple A trash being released. Nintendo is one of the only companies making good FUN games anymore
Good fun games... it looks mediocre so far
@@darkknightdante178 To you. They’ve only shown one small section of the game. They’re not going to lay all their cards out before the game even releases
The fact that there are a lot of indie Metroidviana games has zero to do with the value of this game. By that logic any platformer should be 14.99. any online shooter should be free, any puzzle game should be free, ECT. This kind of logic is flawed at best.
Totally agree! It's like saying Mario Oddyssey it's not worth 60 dollars because there are cheaper 3D platformers.
Very good point
Agree too, based on that logic, TLOU should be 10 dollars since it’s a cheap Walking Death copy.
This need to be the top comment. This is not an indie game
Do you think Metroid Dread is going to be $45 better than games like Shovel Knight? $30 better than Mega Man 11? Other than Nintendo, who is selling ANY 2D platformer for $60? Do you think Dread is going to be the best 2D platformer of all-time?
Was never into Metroid until Prime, and my gamecube broke before I could finish it. Then Metriod trilogy came out and I got the steelbook edition. I am waiting to see if an HD remaster of those games are coming out before I delve back in. Loved those games. But i am kind of hesitant to play them with the motion controllers.
Not a huge 2D guy but I may give this a whirl.
When does this game come out ? Or is it only open to pre-order right now ?
This game comes out in October, and you can preorder a cart on Amazon or digitally through the eShop.
I've never played a metroid game in my life but the trailer and gameplay for dread looked interesting enough for me to get it for $60. Also yes let me trade in 10 games to gamestop to get 10 cents towards metroid dread.
Play Super Metroid, it's available already to the switch. It will get in the mood to play at least zero mission, Samus return and fusion .
I will buy it at 60$ but it's real retail should be no more the 40$. Trilogy will be 60$ and prime 4 also.
It’s a triple A developed main-line title for one of the most influential gaming franchises in the world. Why tf would they charge under the regular game price?
Idk why people are even asking if this is 60$ its a new game and not remake. They actually went out of there to bring this game back form years ago. And people saying it's not worth 60$ or even making videos of stupid topic. Should look into playing over games or choose other career paths.
"if this was an indie game without Samus, it would certainly be $20 or so"... yes... and if my Grandma had wheels, she would be a motorcycle.
You are missing the point.
In fact this comment is so dumb that it made my eyes water.
It's about the branding. If it didn't have the Nintendo brand attached to it, it wouldn't be above $25.
It's really that simple. I can list you 10 metroidvania games that would destroy any Metroid game ever made.
Metroid may have been responsible for pioneering the genre but those days are long gone.
There's much better Metroidvania games available now and they cost a fraction of the price.
@@rezarfar If it didn't have the Nintendo brand attached to it, it wouldn't be above $25 because Nintendo is a AAA publisher.
@@ejiro8061
Yeah but you're paying for the publishing brand then.
There's literally no difference in the quality of the product, the only difference is, one is made by an unknown developer and the marketing money in many cases are generated from Kickstarters and the other is from a well know brand.
You can't sit there and tell me that had Nintendo made and published Hollow Knight, it would've been worth $60. Purely because it has Nintendo's logo on it.
But because Team Cherry did it, it's worth only $20.
@@rezarfar Maybe a Nintendo published Hollow Knight would be worth $60 if it had the same budget as Nintendo's usual games.
@@ejiro8061 so you're telling me the exact same game would be worth $60 just because Nintendo?
Your perpetuating the very sickness of today's greedy neo capitalism mentally.
Two different organizations are responsible for making EXACTLY the same product without any difference at all.
One is worth 60 billion as an organisation and the other is worth 1 million.
But you think the company that is worth 60 billion has a right to charge 3 times as much as a company that is worth 1 million?
Do you see the problem with your thinking here?
I'd pay $100 for dread! I'm just stoked to get it and if you wanna try to get a physical of one of the older ones then you'll pay close to that anyway 😆.
Hello RGT85 and hello to everyone tuning in. Be safe and enjoy the weekend!
Does anybody know how many copies of metroid dread is RGT85 getting? I don't think he mentioned it
Fans: we demand another classic 2d metroid!
Nintendo: ok
Also fans: but make sure it's $10
No, $30 would be fair. You can't pretend Dread is a AAA game with $20 million budget. Nintendo could've hired an indie developer to make Dread for under $2 million and then sold it for $30 to better overall sales.
Can't see myself paying 60 for any 2d game. Love metroid prime, id pay 60 for metroid prime 1 and 2 together, just to avoid buying another gamecube
Samus Returns was $50 at release and worth it. This is absolutely going to be worth $60
People don't wanna pay $60 for an awesome Metroid 2d game, but they keep paying $60 for the same re-released games from the wii u to the switch, specially donkey Kong and Mario bros, which they are 2d.
Will it be awesome though? Mercury Steam is no Moon Studios or Retro Studios level developer. Dreads art direction looks pretty mediocre so far. On the technical site it looks dated. Lighning is flat and overlit. Compare that to DK: Tropical Freeze and Ori and the will of the Wisps on the Switch.
For $60 a game has to grab me. And as a huge Metroid fan Dread does not blow me away so far. Mercury Steam needs a new art director and a better engine.
@@cogigo A game doesn't have to be breathtakingly beautiful to be awesome, the game looks really good in later areas, the white industrial areas that are shown off in the trailer look the way they do on purpose. Stop judging a game by its graphics, yes there are beautiful games like Ori and DK, but this is a Metroid game. It's always been carried by gameplay, the games have never looked amazing.
I would pay 60. I wouldn’t pay 60 for advance wars....that should be 40.
Yeah, Nintendo are really stretching wanting full wack for advance wars.
Both are overpriced, but Metroid fans will pay.
Nintendude Gaming, yep. If you want to play a good turn based strategy game you can play Wargroove for 20 bucks.
This shouldn’t even be a “thing”.
Dread is a brand new game.
Rift Apart (Ratchet for noobs) is a brand new game. Why aren’t people complaining about the price of that?
What, because it’s 2D and graphics “aren’t as good”? Shut up.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.
If you don’t like the price, don’t buy it.
It really is THAT simple.
I agree with you but the debate is that it’s a lot cheaper to make a Metroid game than for example Mario so why are they priced the same
"Ratchet for noobs"?
@@nicholasvaccaro4826 That is a not necessarily a true statement. 2D isn't always cheaper than 3D. There are a variety of variables involved that affect development costs.
@@josephmissig5301 you think it was cheaper to produce Mario odyssey’s than the new Metroid game
Rift Apart is a AAA game that looks amazing. 2D games aren't AAA and haven't been for 15 or 20 years. I don't care if it's Metroid, Mario, Donkey Kong or Kirby. Nintendo should not be charging $60 for a 2D game.
I thinks your argument has some good points. Another question might be worth looking into is whether or not metroidvania games have been short changing theirselves lately, I would pay a lot more for games like hallow knight, which has the content to back a higher price.
“Worth $60?” *Me buying 3 copies plus 2 amiibo packs* lol noooo not at all
“it didn’t sell well, that’s factual”
Okay, this is a huge pet peeve of mine, but that ISN’T A FACT. That’s an opinion BASED off facts or data like the number of units moved and sold. To you, those aren’t *good* sales numbers and that’s perfectly understandable, but for god’s sake let’s be more self-aware in distinguishing between fact and opinion here.
Why do people think a 2d game doesn’t deserve a full price? Makes zero sense. These games have a ton of replay value.
It’s the general public a lower price might intrigue those who are new to the series or more casual players who don’t play many games
im getting this, i just hope it is not very short
Good context video for Metroid. I'm a Metroid fan but I had no clue it's not as big a seller as I thought
