Where most characters are trained to fight, used to fighting for their lives and whatnot, Neo fighting style is defensive. Everyone is trained offensively whereas she is defensive. They can't trick her into a fight because Neo prefers to avoid fights and it seems to be what she was trained for. That's what I love about Neo. She's effective and does what she came for and you can't taunt her into a fight either.

In this fight, and her fights against Yang and Ruby, she invites the attack and then uses agility and speed (and sometimes her semblence) to dodge, parry and avoid anything thrown at her until she can land more effective hits back. When she fought Yang, she didn't hit her once until she could take her down in one move, when Yang was frustrated and tired. When she fought Cinder on the other hand, she's confrontational, aggressive, angry. She wants revenge. She blames Cinder and wants to see her hurt. So she goes all in (and for the record, still almost wins. Cinder's maiden powers are the only reason she survived Neo)
One thing I love about Neo’s fights is how much personality is conveyed through her moves, more so than most other characters. The way she redirects and parries attacks so casually, the constant misdirections and cocky smirk; it always feels like she’s toying with her opponents, because she KNOWS exactly how good she is and what she can get away with.
The lone exception was when Ruby miraculously punched Neo's open umbrella button above Beacon Academy. Not sure if that was a semblance move. However it was impressive that Ruby did so starting from a teetering hanging spot by her scythe handle off the edge of the air battleship, dodging Neo's extended umbrella blade in that singular quick move.
Considering Cinder didn't remember Jaune as Pyrrha's teammates, I doubt she'd tell Neo about a team she doesn't care and their relationship with each other when she is obsessed Ruby. JNPR was mostly in the shadow of RWBY when it came to interferring with Roman and Cinder in the early volume.

I wouldn't blame her, but I don't see Neo working directly for Salem unless she sees no other option at the time. Neo's smart, so she'll do what she has to to survive, but I get the feeling she doesn't agree with what Salem wants, at all. I can totally see her betraying and killing one of the antagonists late in the series, hopefully Cinder.
Neo is my favorite character to watch fight, just the way she uses her opponents weight and momentum against them and moves so elegantly, I’m really glad that she’s stayed consistent throughout the show

Okay, so to answer the "why" i think it's possible, Pyrrah was one of, if not, the most famous student and also the final center of attention in the academy battles. As we know already, Neo was also in the academy but disguised. Pyrrah also used to be part of the team so it's not impossible that Neo would use her form to mentally hurt/stun them. If Nora, a living person's form, can stun Ren that easily, then imagine how they would react if someone they lost and miss was used instead. I don't expect Neo to know Pyrrah and Jaune's relationship but I can imagine Cinder telling her.
People say neo shouldn't have won so easily, should considered team ORNJ, fighting style. They're all very aggressive fighters and neo isn't, she uses a person's momentum against them, that's how she won. She used their own abilities against them, then ran. She also messed with their heads. They were simply outmatched, neo fights smart, not hard.

Rajes Wary Highly debatable. Qrow and Tyrian are relative to her. Havel destroys Qrow after his Dust boost. And don’t forget Ozpin who could fight someone with maiden powers. Oh and Penny.
@@sibsart2039 Penny stood no chance against Raven, unless of course if she uses her Winter Maiden powers just like Cinder. Ozpin would give a good fight. Hazel is slower unlike Tyrian and Qrow. Volume 5 lackluster fight doesn't count, RT done dirty to Qrow, cause he's nerfed. Raven is smarter, strategic, tactful, skillful, tricky, caclcuted, calm and resourceful type. Tyrian have chance to take her out due to his semblance and poison but he lacked hand to hand combat. Qrow has slim chance, thanks his semblance. In conclusion, with their semblance, they can give pretty good fight against Raven. Raven didn't use her semblance, we didn't know her full potential. Portal creation is strong power if you ask me, she basically breaking space and time law.

At 0:57 when she fake 'gasps' as Ren charges at her! It's amazing how much personality RT managed to give to a mute character! Neopolitan is by far one of the best characters in the whole series! XD
She's not evil but she's also a dangerous criminal who doesn't mind hurting people and even outright trying to kill them without being sorry about it at all, and Roman wasn't a nice guy either, they probably treated each other ok and all that but apart from that they weren't good people at all, and they clearly didn't care how many people they had to hurt to do their immoral things, so.
RWBY has always had that problem, they absolutely suck at coordinating multiple fighters at once. For a show that's supposed about teams and teamwork, they can't actually show that teamwork well at all. There are some exceptions but they are far from the norm.

How nice of Neo to stand perfectly still and just tank the single most telegraphed punch in the history of fiction. Now I'm picturing that scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail where Lancelot charges at the guard, but with Oscar and Neo taking their places.
I love how, even when Neo is disguised, her body language would give her away even despite the fact she doesn't speak. Like that little saunter she does as Nora before turning to attack Oscar.

Yes, because being very strong becomes a character into a good one. Not devolepment, not charisma, not having a personality no, just power. That's very superficial
Out of all the fighting styles, Neo's has to be my favourite. Where most characters in literally every show ever are far too impatient to care much defence, Neo literally parries her opponents and uses their own power against them. Defence is the best offence in her case and she executes it well. Not only that, but her weapon and her semblance help even out the playing field. Where she can't just parry bullets, she can use her weapon for defence. Since it's not a simple shield, it has more use and a bit more mobile (rip Jaune's heavy shield). I've always loved defensive types of fighting but obviously it's rare to find a character that actually uses it, let alone uses it well and repeatedly. I also like how her umbrella can also be used offensively (the lil sword inside) so that when she needs to kill her opponent or simple parrying tf outta them isn't enough, she has an alternative method.

I like how Neo gets this almost creepy sound effect playing for her repeatedly. Im not sure how to describe it, but the first use in this clip is at 0:16 when she gets hit
It's the typical dramatic sound of broken glass falling used in movies, but they added some distorted string music to it, like a badly played violin, to make it more ominous. She does break into glass when her illusion is shattered, and her fighting style is quite precise and elegant, like playing a violin requires. Glad you noticed and pointed that out. It's very subtle, but a damn nice touch.
@@blanclover122 well if we think of Maiden Powers as enhancements of a semblance or a second sermblance it does make sence since penny "works" because she has a part of her creators semblance. It was also stated by Pyrrha that once aura/semblance is the manifestation of ones soul, hence why grimm dont have semblances and why Penny can be a Maiden

i actually disagree, ren has always been quite weak tbh, jnpr strenght were phyrra and charged up nora besides jaune could only improve from the point he was in the beginning. Neo on the other hand has been dominating every fight from the prospective of combat skills
@@francesco9281 The thing is : team JNPR has been improving constantly since arriving to Atlas, so on one side we have team RWBY being able to fend off Atlas's most elite hunters, and on the other side we have team JNPR getting rekt by Neo 4v1 while not giving that much resistance. So yeah, I'm not surprised at Neo winning the fight, I'm disappointed at HOW EASY it was, even Yang gave her more trouble 1v1 last time they faced. Clearly nerfing team JNPR to save time, because with all the fighting happening in this episode, they didn't want to waste too much time showing how this team had improved

I wish Neo's eyes shifted sides like they did in her original volume. If you look closely at the Yang vs Neo fight, Neo's eyes shift sides depending on if she's acting defensively or offensively. I believe that her pink eye always stays on the side of her pink hair and her brown matches the side with her brown hair in this volume.
God I love how you know how you can still figure out who neo is during the times she transforms into a different person. Just by seeing how she's so different from people. She's literally just 90 percent smug, that even if she's a different person, you can spot her. Like even just the way she lets go of oscar when she was holding him quiet was so neo, that if didn't know this episode and you just showed me that scene. I would definitely just see neo.

That last little scene there, the worry on Nora's face as she looks back and see's tears. That was a really powerful moment kind of just hidden slightly out of the main focus. I wonder how many people missed it. The love story between Nora and Ren has been on going in the background for quite sometime but it's getting harder and harder to "hide" it. I really wish we'd get a kiss in the near future lol
In my opinion the problem is that they attacked her at all. you have her outnumbered four to one with a clear exit behind you. why not just turn the fuck around and leave? you know she's going to attack you but at least that way she can't lead you on a wild goose chase. like, seriously. sprint for it and lock oscar in a random room. she'd never find him.
I'm gonna say it. That punch Oscar landed on Neo should not have happened and i am upset that he landed it on a character who's establishing scene was beating Yang flawlessly who was arguably the strongest member of Rwby.
According to the team, they actually had that scene planned out WAY differently, such as the corridor not being so long, and Oscar being practically next to her so the sucker punch would be more realistic to the Neo we know.

***VOLUME 7 SPOILERS NEAR BOTTOM*** Neo could've easily injured them but she didnt. When she messed with Ren, there was a clear opening she could have went for to not only hurt him but kill him, but she only knocked him off her feet to get away. I know she has one goal, to get the lamp and get out. But every villain we've seen (Except Wattz and Hazel I believe) would've went for that opening to give themselves the advantage and leverage, a good example being Cinder at Haven with Weiss. Weiss wasnt a threat to her at the moment, but Cinder still went for the kill. Another example being Clover, Tyrian and Qrow. Clover wasnt a threat to Tyrian because Clover was more interested in Qrow then Tyrian, but Tyrian went for the kill. While Team JNPR was a threat to Neo, with being out numbered and all (Essentially 3-1 since Oscar wouldnt have much of a fight.) Neo had many chances to hurt them. I wonder why she didnt

I wouldn't blame her, but I don't see Neo working directly for Salem unless she sees no other option at the time. Neo's smart, so she'll do what she has to to survive, but I get the feeling she doesn't agree with what Salem wants, at all. I can totally see her betraying and killing one of the antagonists late in the series, hopefully Cinder.
Neo is my favorite character to watch fight, just the way she uses her opponents weight and momentum against them and moves so elegantly, I’m really glad that she’s stayed consistent throughout the show

Like i said, it's not "I know", it's "I think." I am not demanding you to agree with me. So feel free to think what you like. Okay, so to answer the "why" i think it's possible, Pyrrah was one of, if not, the most famous student and also the final center of attention in the academy battles. As we know already, Neo was also in the academy but disguised. Pyrrah also used to be part of the team so it's not impossible that Neo would use her form to mentally hurt/stun them. If Nora, a living person's form, can stun Ren that easily, then imagine how they would react if someone they lost and miss was used instead. I don't expect Neo to know Pyrrah and Jaune's relationship but I can imagine Cinder telling her.
People say neo shouldn't have won so easily, should considered team ORNJ, fighting style. They're all very aggressive fighters and neo isn't, she uses a person's momentum against them, that's how she won. She used their own abilities against them, then ran. She also messed with their heads. They were simply outmatched, neo fights smart, not hard.

Rajes Wary Highly debatable. Qrow and Tyrian are relative to her. Havel destroys Qrow after his Dust boost. And don’t forget Ozpin who could fight someone with maiden powers. Oh and Penny.

Volume 5 lackluster fight doesn't count, RT done dirty to Qrow, cause he's nerfed. Raven is smarter, strategic, tactful, skillful, tricky, caclcuted, calm and resourceful type. Tyrian have chance to take her out due to his semblance and poison but he lacked hand to hand combat. Qrow has slim chance, thanks his semblance. In conclusion, with their semblance, they can give pretty good fight against Raven. Raven didn't use her semblance, we didn't know her full potential. Portal creation is strong power if you ask me, she basically breaking space and time law.

RWBY has always had that problem, they absolutely suck at coordinating multiple fighters at once. For a show that's supposed about teams and teamwork, they can't actually show that teamwork well at all.
There are some exceptions but they are far from the norm.

Out of all the fighting styles, Neo's has to be my favourite. Where most characters in literally every show ever are far too impatient to care much defence, Neo literally parries her opponents and uses their own power against them. Defence is the best offence in her case and she executes it well. Not only that, but her weapon and her semblance help even out the playing field. Where she can't just parry bullets, she can use her weapon for defence. Since it's not a simple shield, it has more use and a bit more mobile (rip Jaune's heavy shield). I've always loved defensive types of fighting but obviously it's rare to find a character that actually uses it, let alone uses it well and repeatedly.
I also like how her umbrella can also be used offensively (the lil sword inside) so that when she needs to kill her opponent or simple parrying tf outta them isn't enough, she has an alternative method.

I like how Neo gets this almost creepy sound effect playing for her repeatedly. Im not sure how to describe it, but the first use in this clip is at 0:16 when she gets hit
It's the typical dramatic sound of broken glass falling used in movies, but they added some distorted string music to it, like a badly played violin, to make it more ominous. She does break into glass when her illusion is shattered, and her fighting style is quite precise and elegant, like playing a violin requires.
Glad you noticed and pointed that out. It's very subtle, but a damn nice touch.

@@francesco9281 The thing is : team JNPR has been improving constantly since arriving to Atlas, so on one side we have team RWBY being able to fend off Atlas's most elite hunters, and on the other side we have team JNPR getting rekt by Neo 4v1 while not giving that much resistance.
So yeah, I'm not surprised at Neo winning the fight, I'm disappointed at HOW EASY it was, even Yang gave her more trouble 1v1 last time they faced. Clearly nerfing team JNPR to save time, because with all the fighting happening in this episode, they didn't want to waste too much time showing how this team had improved
@@RoulicisThe they didn't lose per say, she just outsmarted them and ran away. Team jnpr was also being chased so they didn't have all the focus on neo (and Oscar) that's what led them to "lose". If look to the actual fight they even got the upper hand at the end of it and neo had to rely on her shattering semblance to escape

I wish Neo's eyes shifted sides like they did in her original volume. If you look closely at the Yang vs Neo fight, Neo's eyes shift sides depending on if she's acting defensively or offensively. I believe that her pink eye always stays on the side of her pink hair and her brown matches the side with her brown hair in this volume.

That last little scene there, the worry on Nora's face as she looks back and see's tears. That was a really powerful moment kind of just hidden slightly out of the main focus. I wonder how many people missed it. The love story between Nora and Ren has been on going in the background for quite sometime but it's getting harder and harder to "hide" it. I really wish we'd get a kiss in the near future lol
They already kiss in the chapter 6 of this volume.

The problem is that they all came at her one by one, if all four attacked at once, neo might have had a harder time
In my opinion the problem is that they attacked her at all. you have her outnumbered four to one with a clear exit behind you. why not just turn the fuck around and leave? you know she's going to attack you but at least that way she can't lead you on a wild goose chase. like, seriously. sprint for it and lock oscar in a random room. she'd never find him.

That punch Oscar landed on Neo should not have happened and i am upset that he landed it on a character who's establishing scene was beating Yang flawlessly who was arguably the strongest member of Rwby.

Yang lacked tactics at the time she fought Neo. If RWBY had fought Neo she'd hold her own but have to put up a decent fight.
According to the team, they actually had that scene planned out WAY differently, such as the corridor not being so long, and Oscar being practically next to her so the sucker punch would be more realistic to the Neo we know.

Neo could've easily injured them but she didnt. When she messed with Ren, there was a clear opening she could have went for to not only hurt him but kill him, but she only knocked him off her feet to get away.
I know she has one goal, to get the lamp and get out. But every villain we've seen (Except Wattz and Hazel I believe) would've went for that opening to give themselves the advantage and leverage, a good example being Cinder at Haven with Weiss. Weiss wasnt a threat to her at the moment, but Cinder still went for the kill. Another example being Clover, Tyrian and Qrow. Clover wasnt a threat to Tyrian because Clover was more interested in Qrow then Tyrian, but Tyrian went for the kill.
While Team JNPR was a threat to Neo, with being out numbered and all (Essentially 3-1 since Oscar wouldnt have much of a fight.) Neo had many chances to hurt them. I wonder why she didnt
She wasn't there to kill them. Her job was to get the relic & get out. Fighting longer would just expend more aura. She's efficient
