I have taken up a habit of taking inter alia your interviews on my daily walks. Headphone, smartphone, RUclips, Jonathan and his guests. Whatever the weather, my walks are always great now! Thank you so much, Jonathan!
Excellent content and speaker. I always enjoy your guests and the topics discussed. So far, you are batting 1000 with me. But hey, even if you had a so so speaker on, it's all good. I'm impressed with how you run your channel, how you address the issues, and the topics you choose to expose. Bravo to you Jonathan.
@@SiliconCurtain You are worthy of this and more. You are top shelf as a professional. I see what you do. Keeping your guests on target, asking the right questions. Really, I appreciate the content very much. And the guests are so relevant. Again, the thanks is to you.
This was an outstanding interview. Finally, we have somebody competent who truly knows Ukrainian society and why it is such a threat to Putin's nationalistic autocracy. Bravo!!!
The discussion of Russia's view of the Ukrainian politics was interesting. It is very familiar to me from American stooges who for whatever reason transmitted it in the mid-aughts, especially on the counterpunch web site. I used to follow that site as a leftist balance against the right-wing Bush presidency, but in the years after the Orange Revolution, I started seeing articles every couple of days about how the CIA was pulling the strings in republics around Russia and orchestrating these "color-coded revolutions." It was clear that the material had to have been transmitted from Russian sources, because not only was it pro-Russian, but it expressed a point of view that no American, even a pro-Russian one, would think of. It seemed hilarious to me because it was obvious that almost no one in American government really cared about Ukraine, as was made obvious by the slow and tepid responses to Crimea. It also shocked me that leftists who could write paragraph after paragraph about the evils of American imperialism would embrace Russian imperialism so brazenly. I hope the counterpunch writers at least got paid Russian oil money for their efforts; if not, they're idiots.
What you observe falls under the definition of "syncretism" the USEFUL accretion of ideas, in this case deemed by an ingroup likely to attract adherents. While political philosophy seems definitive, it is mere social behavior. Aristotle, who observed humans, called humans "the political animal", referring to our nature of creating rhetorical narratives and seeking to attract large influential, powerful ingroup, through which attached individuals obtain greater personal and familial security, and increase their likelihood of atracting mates. ALL seeming emergent larger-scale social accretions emerge from this trait -complex inherent in our obligate social species (we are terrified and truly most vulnerable when alone. Existential terror, drives competition within the species. We and the two other social primate genera, chimpanzee and Baboon, are boradly socially lethal. While some other mammals engage in infanticide toward offspring not their own (and so do we. Incontrovertible evidence exists in murder statistics and in expressed psychological ideation) to be isolated from all remains our greatest terror. Because we engage in competition to prevent this, individuals into oldest age can remain deluded that "if not dominant, then in mortal, lethal danger. Those who "lead" groups often find the most efficient method of maintaining group coherence and quest for social dominance, is to signal esxterior group threat.
Another excellent speaker. I am left wondering if Ms. Popova sees the United Nations as ‘not fit for purpose’ and therefore not a consideration for Ukraine securing its future?
There are many characteristics of the Ukrainian struggle for human rights and self determination that bear resemblance to early American sentiments. Conservative Americans really should see the likenesses and stop long enough to put themselves in the shoes of the average Ukrainian.
These are the best series of interviews on the topic available online, easily. Thanks again for your hard work.👏👏👏
Thank you, that’s so kind. More great guests to come, of course.
Once again thank you for such a high quality guest and discussion
I feel honoured to be listening to these insightful discussions. Great interview. Thank you both. 🇦🇺 🇺🇦 💛🌻

Useful idiots are sadly omnipresent.

Big picture analysis is always so helpful in the sea of soul numbing daily news of the Russian aggression.
