- The time has come to make a ginger bug! Ginger bugs are great fermentation starters and most importantly they are the foundation for making many tasty naturally fermented pops (or soda, or soda pop. Whatever floats your boat)!
I made this ferment from the book "Ferment" by Holly Davis. If you'd like to explore this beautiful book you can check out this affiliate link and give us a little boost at the same time! amzn.to/3l1MSsG
This is my next project. Thanks Anna.
I am so looking forward to seeing how you use this ginger bug! Thank you Anna!
You shouldn’t have to wait too long! 💜
This was really interesting . I'm going to be watching to see what you make
Great! 💜
Hi from Tennessee 😃 I came over from the Stivers. I’ve started getting in to fermenting so I’m so happy to find you 💕. I’ve sub’d and look forward to learning! 😊
Hi back from Washington! Welcome! I’m happy to have you here 💜
Oh, yum!! I've gotta try this! I love ginger kombucha, but I'll bet this has so much more ginger goodness!
I still need to try that! I haven’t really touched my kombucha in about a year 🥴
Very cool!!!
Thank you 😀
Ginger bug is excellent! My kids love it! I like it in the summer when I need a healthy pick me up. I hope you enjoy it! I like mine with a splash of cranberry 😋
Yum! Fermented drinks are so good in the summer! I’ll have to try that sometime 💜
Muscavado sugar is a natural sugar with a molasses taste. It's basically non processed cane sugar. Thick and sticky. It would change the flavor of the ginger bug, making it richer and caramel like.
Interesting! I’m going to have to try that at some point! Thank you 💜
I shared this on a cooking group I'm part of 🥰
That’s so sweet of you! Thank you 💜💜
@@FermentedHomestead of course your videos are amazing
Yum yum yum 😋!!!!!
For sure! 💜
Hello from New Hampshire Hope your ok with this strange weather. Be Safe Be careful I must say I love ginger. Is this a type of nature medicine? Thank you for sharing
Dang that fermented soda that you made a video on was uuhmmm different. My wife loved it and so did all my kids but I couldn’t get passed to thick texture. I’m trying it again. I don’t think I had enough oranges.
I hope you have better luck next time! I’m glad your family enjoyed it 😀
I’ve never had any luck with my gingerbug making! I even named mine Gene, but it didn’t help... lol. Might try your recipe xx Cathi xx
Nice name! Love it haha 😂
Ok. Recipe: Put into glass jar- 1 TBS sugar, 2 TBS warm water, mix until dissolved, add I TBS Freshly grated ginger. Cover with cloth. Day 2: Add 1 TBS Grated ginger, 1 TBS sugar, 1 TBS water, stir. Continue this for 1 week. After 1 week put in fridge. One week later (my Monday) take out of fridge, add: 4 TBS water, 1 TBS grated ginger, 1 TBS sugar. Is this correct? Also, I cannot find the ginger pop recipe, link please.
That sounds spot on. I only had made the mango ginger soda but I plan to do a ginger soda before too long
@@FermentedHomestead After the initial start (day 2), I am using my raw honey from my homestead instead of sugar. Honey seems for me, to be a better choice for my system, health wise. Have you tried that route yet?
I have never made Ginger Bug, would you be able to can it? If so, how long would you process it for? I think I know the answer for this, but just wanting to confirm my sensing. Thank You!
Use distilled water
Hi, I was wondering if you could use home made dehydrated ginger to feed it when it's in the fridge? Thank you.
I’m going to go with probably not. But if the culture is already strong and bubbly it may not matter
It's important to use non-chlorinated water
It is, we’ve had well water for many years
