One of my favorite and most refreshing messages in one piece is that exact message, that it’s never too late. Sure the MC is young like every shonen protagonist but there are all kinds of ages who find their calling. Robin found her calling with the strawhats _10 years_ older than Nami. Brook got back in the game after literally dying. But my favorite underrated one is probably Franky. He already had a life built for himself on water seven. He was already pushing 40 and boss of a family. Yet even he turned his life around and went out to see. And what’s most important about it to me is that he’s almost Shanks and Buggy’s age. We even saw in the wano flashback when they pulled up to water 7, it’s a young Franky working on his creations while a young shanks and buggy are right there. 20 years later shanks is shanks and buggy is, though obviously not a shanks, still having done his own thing. Franky was the one who stayed in the same place. Yet here he is, he hitched a ride on the newest era even though he’s damn near shanks age, the man who helped foster said newest era. Not that Franky was a failure or anything, but even for him it wasn’t too late to start a new journey. Its like when people who didn’t go to college want to go back, you may be in your 30s in a class of 18-23 year olds but there’s not a damn thing wrong with that.
What I love most about Crocodile is that he is a great example of a villain that remains calm in almost any situation he is in. He helps to contrast a lot of the other characters that give over the top reactions.
Just an interesting information: in the anime it's not the "1812 ouverture" from Tchaikovsky that is played in the background when Luffy beats the sh*** out of Crocoboy. It's actually "symphony n.9" from Dvorak written in 1893 and here comes the fun part... the song is called "From the New World" (inspired by his 3 year stay in America)😁 That was, I think, a BIG WINK from Oda because at that time the new world was not mentioned yet.

A lot of people forget crocodile played a big role in marineford. When Ace was about to be executed he intervened. And when Akainu was about to finish off Jimbei and Luffy he saves them. Without him you could say Ace would’ve died before he was suppose to and Luffy and Jimbei would’ve died too. Those 2 moments were big plays in the war for sure.
We could also apply that to the barrel luffy used in the early episode. Without it, luffy will die much much earlier in the story. Such a wasted big player oda never revisited
And bro took a slash from mihawk -- the same slash which decmiated entire fleets of Don Krieg and put Zoro on a stretcher. Crocodile took that without even flinching.
this is why I love Moria as a character. He had high ambition and the means to back it up, but ended up loosing all of that when he fought Kaido. He then much like buggy became very lazzy and complacent. However. I think we'll see a very much stronger Moria return, much like how he was back in the day. I don't see him as a bad person. He just lost his way and did some things that were bad (stealing shadows of people etc. ), but I believe in 2nd chances and I do see Oda bringing him back.
14:30 I would say that motivation is indeed the biggest factor for getting stronger in One Piece. Haki can literally be translated as "Will" or "Ambition" if someone grows disillusioned with their objectives or gets too comfortable with their current lives, they won't be able to use Haki properly. The best examoke of that is when Sanji literally said that he can't use armament properly to defend himself against Maria beating him up because he didn't *want* to fight a girl, as that is not what he does. Haki also seems to awaken when someone *wants* something a lot. Luffy saving his brother and crew, Usopp getting that difficult shot in Dressrosa, Coby not wanting people to kill each other... Thats how it happens, right?
I agree almost 100 percent the only thing is conquers' haki is when you exert your will upon another that why we don't see Luffy and zoro going 100 they believe in freedom of self
So long story short, it's AMBITION that gives all these characters their strength, luffy to be pirate king, robin to find the ryo poneglyph, whitebeard to have a family, kaido be the modern joy boy, all these super strong characters have incredibly strong goals and the ambition to fulfill it
What people don’t know is foxy already awakened his devil fruit which made the world move at extreme slow motions which is why the story is so long and foxy has already found the one piece and moved to the moon to fight the finale boss Emil who wasn’t effected by the awakening.
Honestly before forming Baroque Works I believe given Crocodiles mafia theme he worked for Du Feld who was his dad or father figure and because of his connection he was able to get Lassoo either from Egghead or Punk Hazard and a good deal for Galdino and Goldenweek for holidaying at Vacation Island.
In the East Blue, we met pirates who failed to conquer The Grand Line (Krieg, Buggy, Zeff), then in the Grand Line we met dropouts from the New World (Crocodile, Moria), then in the New World we meet pirates who were defeated by the Red Line (Kaido, Doflamingo, Rocks). to quote Doflamingo, 'power has a short shelf-life'
Also when u reread the ending of the Croc fight its pretty obvious that Luffy bruised his ego and so instead of fighting smart like he did before Croc chose to go melee and got beat up. Kind of reminds me of Bakis fights vs Oliva/Pickle were after seeing he could beat them with technique he decided to go brute force at the end, different motivations sure but kind of similar results.
Crocodile grew content in where he himself was his devil fruit mastery was crazy it wasn't until he had a reason to chase for the top that he became as powerful as he is now
Great video. I would have to say the backstory of a character makes the character strong. And Oda has done an amazing job of building up characters and giving them backstories to go along with them.
It's worth noting that Crocodile did manual labor for months while wearing sea stone handcuffs in Impel Down. We know from Luffy and Kidd that this acts like training with weighted clothes in DBZ. That could have helped contribute to Crocodile getting stronger and less dependent on his Devil Fruit.
When i did my first watch of One Piece in 2014-15 it sent shivers down my side in impel down when the episode ends with "Sashiburidana? Muuugiwaaaaaraaaa~ heeeeh heeeeh heeeeeeeee" Wish i could experience that hype again.
#Tekking101 Crocodile is such an interesting and cool character. His mafia type attire with his golden poisonous hook, AND his sand logia fruit. During the Impel Down arc, Crocodile and Mr 1 were cool as could be! I’m glad that Oda has brought him back into the story. He isn’t my favorite “villain” by any means, but like I said, he’s a GREAT character. 🤌🏼 I truly hope that Oda has Crocodile aid the Straw Hats in the final arc. 🙏🏼
Personally I don’t think Crocodile didn’t know Haki, he just couldn’t use it. Haki is about willpower so if he becomes completely complacent and loses his ambition, like you also reasoned, I think he could’ve become unable to use Haki. I imagine after his fight with Whitebeard he kinda lost the will to fight and he didn’t need Haki that early in the Grand Line. I think after he got his ambition/his drive back, he revived/revitalized his Haki and then trained earnestly to become a threat again. The only reason I think this, is that he is said to have clashed with Whitebeard. Obviously Whitebeard won, but it always sounded like, to me at least, they had an actual fight. And since no one ever accused Kid of having actually really fought Shanks, I imagine that Crocodile must have at least put up some form of resistance against Whitebeard, which simply sounds improbable without Haki.
I mean considering he's a Logia and was a hotshot he probably was an example of the "Logia users who think they're invincible often die young." Crocodile thought he was invincible being made of sand and Whitebeard humiliated him with Haki.
True aside from joke bountys like chopper's and Bepo's and a few of doflamingos commanders nothing was that low in the new World and certainly no captain bounty
Don’t forget cocodil was having a mental break down during the last fight and forgot he had devil fruit powers when he remembered at marine ford he went toe to toe with mehoc
Crocodile wasn't just the first major villain, he was the first villain that was way above Luffy. With the exception of Smoker, Luffy didn't actually struggle with his opponents, power-wise, and beats them fairly easily once he starts to fight them one on one
@@maxteraform my bad my guy I swore your message when I replied to it was saying that Crocodile wasn't the first major villain luffy had or maybe I posted that reply in the wrong comment I did read like 10 of these. Anyway my bad if my reply didn't apply to your comment bruh👌👍
I feel that had Crocodile's bounty not have been frozen while Alabasta arc was going down, his bounty would have been around 200 mil. Caribou who has similar powers and level of control over his powers had a 210 mil bounty, so I can't imagine crocodile's bounty being far off.
i would argue that crocodile actually outclassed luffy at alabasta pretty solidly but crocodile got so hung up on trying to break luffy's spirit (maybe as he was reminded of himself when he tried to take on whitebeard) that he ended up giving luffy enough opportunities to win. and crocodile is a different animal at the end of impel down. he still carries that smug sense of superiority but he doesn't spend nearly as much time talking shit as he did in alabasta. he basically just goes straight for the throat, every time. it seems like he genuinely learned a lesson from luffy that he didn't when he fought whitebeard the first time and that gave him the motivation to pursue what he actually wants more aggressively than he did before and it shows when the first thing he does upon reaching marineford is to immediately take a swing at whitebeard
Hey Tekking, the music that plays when Luffy beats Crocodile is Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, not Overture by Tchaikovsky. Perhaps this signals a post-animal facts era: music facts! 😛
Tekking If moria joins cross guild it would make alot of sense that it would be a guild that was filled with pirates that had there will broken. perona and dracule is good foreshadowing for it as well and morias powers would be useful to a new nation that crocodile is building. Bigmom had her devilfruit create a nation, world gov has imu, crossguild has moria, becuase all of there dreams (WorldG,CrossG,BigM), involve creating a nation. Devil fruits are related to dreams, maybe the fruit chose them similar to a zoan but a bit different like possibly fate, compared to will. * edit* just realised dolflamingo also had sugar, and moria could be crocodiles sugar Uwu.
It's crazy to me how some people just can't accept that villains from the past CAN get stronger over time. People acted like Lucci (on Egghead) was still the same Lucci who got defeated by Gear 2, for example.
tbf i feel part of the reason crocodiles bounty spiked so high is he was a huge part of the impel down prison break and his bounty was frozen at the time he was defeated so it was due to change
14:44 I actually love that in One Piece age doesn't matter for you to get stronger. Which is true in real life too. No matter the age you can find love, you can learn a new skill, start a career and even find a new dream! ❤
I agree so much with you there. Motivation, ambition and finding something you truelly want to achive can make you grow and level up IRL. As a trans feminine person who finally accepted, embraced and started working towards my new self at the age of 33, I started improving every part of my life. Stopped drinking (5months sober), lost weight (down 2 pants sizes in less than 3 months) and restarted my social life after a decade of neglectfull self care, self harm, and social isolation. Now im a positive, supportive and reliable person thats helping my self and others i care for.
Something funny about this logic is that it it makes sense that Nami, after stealing part of Big Moms soul, directly confronting Big Mom (to protect Tama) and Kaido (when everything seemed lost) would come out of Wnao having awakened conquerors haki.
Haki awakens with motivation and willpower, but I'm still absolutely convinced that the opposite is true as well: as that spark goes out in you, you start losing your haki as well. Eventually that goes, too. How do you think Crocodile or Moria could have made it to fight even Marco or King, or Izo or Ulti or whatever, let alone the actual Emperors, if they hadn't known haki? How could Buggy have hung out with the strongest man in recent world history without picking up a few things? They didn't. They learned some good stuff. Some of them could even have had Conqueror's Haki. And then they gave up and lost the edge and that was the end of that... until recently, anyway. They should thank Luffy.
2:34 Crocodiles my favourite villain and he has the best villain ost in the series 5:07 tbh Oda also said he feels he used crocodile too early so he probably decided to bring him back, I’m so glad too he’s my favourite villain
Dude, I've been thinking about the same thing! Crocodile lost some of that 'willpower' in the past. That's why I think he wasn't able to use haki, b/c he literally didn't have ambition. That's what I think his secret is that Ivankov was talking about, he's ashamed that he was a coward. And I think Mihawk is desperately seeking purpose, he's just not showing it. You're right that he's similar to Kaido, in that sense. What do you do once you get to the top of the mountain? When Buggy said 'remember the reason why you first went out to sea', that was definitely a tease for things to come.
It's really interesting that most of the original warlords fall into the category of lacking motivation Crocodile lost heart after losing to Whitebeard Moria the same after being mutilated by Kaidou to the point that he let himself go and was lackadaisical over getting Oz ready Boa just wants to protect Amazon Lily and hates the world government... kinda weird she gets conquerors Jimbei was kindof too busy navigating politics to seek anything out. He was working to keep Fish-Man island safe but in a keep things neutral kind of way Doffy effectively just became a spiteful mob boss and seemed comfortable with that Kuma resigned himself to become a cyborg instead of challenge the world government for reasons unknown And Mihawk got the title he wanted and didn't pursue new goals. To the point he now is grooming Zoro to kill him or at least surpass him Buggy had 0 ambition prior to lucking into more and more power Even Law was content exclusively with taking out Doffy and his actions after are more just paying back Luffy and then spinning his wheels to grab the One Piece Blackbeard at first doesn't fit until you realize he only held the title for a few days. He couldn't remain a warlord because he had ambitions left
I only expected crocodile to be an underworld broker who then takes power from doffy who gets defeated same as all those brokers who got fujitored I'm glad he's a character that got his groove and his power raised especially compared to lucci who is getting dogged on like a clown as crocodile was way cooler
@@mr.exposition lost to stussy same with kaku. Needed a sneak attack as she protects vegapunk to get even. Joke and i doubt he could handle croco boy who is definitely going to be above level. Heck boa would slaughter him too
I wouldn't call being sneak attacked a true feat. Lucci would beat stussy in a 1v1 ez. Lucci vs crocodile would be really close...could see it going either way.@@ivanbluecool
Anytime someone brings up the age thing I immediately think about Blackbeard who isn’t extremely old, kinda young but is around the range where people say they can’t get stronger. He has become exponentially more powerful than ever before and he’s 40 I believe
Easiest answer: with how the narrative of alabasta played out. Crocodile could of EASILY of switched place for dolflamingo or punk hazard. Both in terms of importance to the overall world building, how it tested the protagonist and the sheer coolness of his design. Crocodiles only weakness is that oda thought of him first.
I think with Crocodile's reintroduction into the story, his extreme weakenss to liquids will be rectified, perhaps he is capable of absorbing more fluid now without his devilfruit losing its ability. Crocodile is a strong dude, I personally believe he will be Yonko Commander level, I think he has always had the potential to be on that tier, it's just that power scaling & progression through the series skews things quite a bit. The non existance of Haki during Alabasta is the thing that held him back the most. If we met him later in the series then he would of had haki, since it is simply a staple of all truly powerful pirates on the grand line.
I wonder if Franky, Chopper, and Ussop could do something to help Gaimon and his girlfriend with their chest situation. Gaimon's body is stuck in the chest and has grown to be a part of it (which can happen in real life; remember couch lady for the 2000s.) But with the best doctor and a couple great engineers (plus maybe Vegapunk) working together, I wonder if they could rebuild Gaimon's (and his girlfriend's) bodies?

A lot of people forget crocodile played a big role in marineford. When Ace was about to be executed he intervened. And when Akainu was about to finish off Jimbei and Luffy he saves them. Without him you could say Ace would’ve died before he was suppose to and Luffy and Jimbei would’ve died too. Those 2 moments were big plays in the war for sure.
We could also apply that to the barrel luffy used in the early episode. Without it, luffy will die much much earlier in the story. Such a wasted big player oda never revisited
@@hid4I think a bigger waste was the stairs that got Kuina. I can't believe that happened off screen too. 😮
Well except crocoboy which doesn't really have a backstory
@@deadsoulzzz3650 that is true i forgot about crocodile.
That Buggy speech is gonna hit really hard animated, I’m excited to see it
It's worth noting that Crocodile did manual labor for months while wearing sea stone handcuffs in Impel Down.
Muuugiwaaaaaraaaa~ heeeeh heeeeh heeeeeeeee"
Wish i could experience that hype again.
Ya know, never really used my beard to ruminate on thoughts… but holy shit does it help. Really allows for extra thought and brainflow
#Tekking101
Crocodile is such an interesting and cool character.
Based on his initial bounty, i think the first time he fought against Whitebeard, he basically speed ran the Grand Line
True aside from joke bountys like chopper's and Bepo's and a few of doflamingos commanders nothing was that low in the new World and certainly no captain bounty
same as Ace
if you read the Ace manga he is basically the same got his devil fruits and felt confident and immediately wanted to fight whitebeard
@@aliomar-vf2qr wasn’t Ace also offered the position of Warlord?
@@siriusblack1612yea but he said nuh uh
Don’t forget cocodil was having a mental break down during the last fight and forgot he had devil fruit powers when he remembered at marine ford he went toe to toe with mehoc
Crocodile wasn't just the first major villain, he was the first villain that was way above Luffy. With the exception of Smoker, Luffy didn't actually struggle with his opponents, power-wise, and beats them fairly easily once he starts to fight them one on one
@@dellmaxson2184
That's not what I wrote
I said he was more than the first major villain
@@maxteraform my bad my guy I swore your message when I replied to it was saying that Crocodile wasn't the first major villain luffy had or maybe I posted that reply in the wrong comment I did read like 10 of these.
Anyway my bad if my reply didn't apply to your comment bruh👌👍
I feel that had Crocodile's bounty not have been frozen while Alabasta arc was going down, his bounty would have been around 200 mil. Caribou who has similar powers and level of control over his powers had a 210 mil bounty, so I can't imagine crocodile's bounty being far off.
That impel down prison buff actually goes crazy, doffy gonna be admiral level coming out that cell
1. I did not ask to be called out like this
2. I really hope the live action really highlights this aspect of Crocodile
Tekking you really brought the charisma on this video a lot of uplifting ideas in this one.
new tekking just when i’m done with classes and ready to vegetate🏆
That scene with Jimba telling Luffy about his crew and that affect. Hit me as hard as Aces death and Zoro taking all of Luffys pain.
That thumbnail image of Corc getting punched by Luffy is even better than Eneru's surprised face. 🤣
never thought I'd be Watching a tekking video walking away feeling motivated to get it together
i would argue that crocodile actually outclassed luffy at alabasta pretty solidly but crocodile got so hung up on trying to break luffy's spirit (maybe as he was reminded of himself when he tried to take on whitebeard) that he ended up giving luffy enough opportunities to win.
and crocodile is a different animal at the end of impel down. he still carries that smug sense of superiority but he doesn't spend nearly as much time talking shit as he did in alabasta. he basically just goes straight for the throat, every time.
it seems like he genuinely learned a lesson from luffy that he didn't when he fought whitebeard the first time and that gave him the motivation to pursue what he actually wants more aggressively than he did before and it shows when the first thing he does upon reaching marineford is to immediately take a swing at whitebeard
Hey Tekking, the music that plays when Luffy beats Crocodile is Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, not Overture by Tchaikovsky.
Perhaps this signals a post-animal facts era: music facts! 😛
Im so happy you tied my favorite panic at the disco album into this wking
The 20 minute motivational tekking speech we all needed
God damn this is one of the most inspirational videos Tekking has ever made lol
It's crazy to me how some people just can't accept that villains from the past CAN get stronger over time.
People acted like Lucci (on Egghead) was still the same Lucci who got defeated by Gear 2, for example.
I think what makes someone strong in One Piece is willpower
thats what hes saying the whole vid, but yea i agree its the theme of the story
I get giddy when Tekking uploads a Crocodile video 🎉
Crocodile’s New Groove is definitely a spin-off show I would watch
Actually the music in the background of Crocodile's defeat is called "The New World Symphony: Movement 4"
Coincidence?
I THINK SO!
Foxys new facial hair is his lvling up
tbf i feel part of the reason crocodiles bounty spiked so high is he was a huge part of the impel down prison break and his bounty was frozen at the time he was defeated so it was due to change
“You gotta keep moving forward”

14:44 I actually love that in One Piece age doesn't matter for you to get stronger. Which is true in real life too. No matter the age you can find love, you can learn a new skill, start a career and even find a new dream! ❤
Idk why but that clap snap intro got me 😂😂🎉
Getting that vibe back, that grooove back 😂
I like to think this was Tekking's way of making a motivational vid for his viewers by masking it as a crocodile vid
As an owner of one such strokable beard, I concur.
Mattt be like "crap your hands with me!" XDDDDD
I agree so much with you there. Motivation, ambition and finding something you truelly want to achive can make you grow and level up IRL.
As a trans feminine person who finally accepted, embraced and started working towards my new self at the age of 33, I started improving every part of my life.
Stopped drinking (5months sober), lost weight (down 2 pants sizes in less than 3 months) and restarted my social life after a decade of neglectfull self care, self harm, and social isolation.
Now im a positive, supportive and reliable person thats helping my self and others i care for.
13:28 this hit hard cause im doing exactly that for the past month💀
Thank you for the video! I always enjoy watching your videos!
I was really hoping for a "took the wind out of their sails" pun lol
The reverse moria smile got me
Something funny about this logic is that it it makes sense that Nami, after stealing part of Big Moms soul, directly confronting Big Mom (to protect Tama) and Kaido (when everything seemed lost) would come out of Wnao having awakened conquerors haki.
Zoro explained how people get stronger in one piece. Fight strong opponents and you’ll get stronger. Win or lose that’s kinda just what happens.
This video is a sign from the universe. I gotta get movin!
Correction: Dvorak’s 9th “New World” symphony 4th movement.
Love the content sir. Best one piece RUclipsr
Thanks for reminding me what I'm trying to do in life!
Haven't even started yet but crocodile is by far my favorite character so I'm here for whatever it is
21:30 well seeing as how swordsmen use whetstones to maintain their blades, Mihawk likely uses Grindr if we're being realistic here 😂
I have never seen an android dragon ball android shirt but im here for it
Haki awakens with motivation and willpower, but I'm still absolutely convinced that the opposite is true as well: as that spark goes out in you, you start losing your haki as well.
2:34 Crocodiles my favourite villain and he has the best villain ost in the series
5:07 tbh Oda also said he feels he used crocodile too early so he probably decided to bring him back, I’m so glad too he’s my favourite villain
No joke Tekking I have that exact shirt in my closet!! 😆😆
God I love Crocodile. My favorite laugh and personality!
It's really interesting that most of the original warlords fall into the category of lacking motivation
Crocodile lost heart after losing to Whitebeard
Moria the same after being mutilated by Kaidou to the point that he let himself go and was lackadaisical over getting Oz ready
Boa just wants to protect Amazon Lily and hates the world government... kinda weird she gets conquerors
Jimbei was kindof too busy navigating politics to seek anything out. He was working to keep Fish-Man island safe but in a keep things neutral kind of way
Doffy effectively just became a spiteful mob boss and seemed comfortable with that
Kuma resigned himself to become a cyborg instead of challenge the world government for reasons unknown
And Mihawk got the title he wanted and didn't pursue new goals. To the point he now is grooming Zoro to kill him or at least surpass him
Buggy had 0 ambition prior to lucking into more and more power
Even Law was content exclusively with taking out Doffy and his actions after are more just paying back Luffy and then spinning his wheels to grab the One Piece
Blackbeard at first doesn't fit until you realize he only held the title for a few days. He couldn't remain a warlord because he had ambitions left
Like Muse’s song knights of Cidonia
“Don’t waste your time or time will waste you”
LETS GO TEKKING CROCODILE VIDEO
Tekking would love Panic at the Disco lmao. Never change Tekking
Crocodiles theme song .
At first you don't succeeeeed, pick yourself up and try again pick yourself up and try again try again
Crocodile was holding the rain back in Alabasta like how Kaido was holding up Onigashima
I only expected crocodile to be an underworld broker who then takes power from doffy who gets defeated same as all those brokers who got fujitored
I'm glad he's a character that got his groove and his power raised especially compared to lucci who is getting dogged on like a clown as crocodile was way cooler
Lucci no joke, hes way more powerful now than he originally was. Problem is luffy is emperor strong now
@@mr.exposition lost to stussy same with kaku.
02:47: It's Dvorak.
Anytime someone brings up the age thing I immediately think about Blackbeard who isn’t extremely old, kinda young but is around the range where people say they can’t get stronger.
He has become exponentially more powerful than ever before and he’s 40 I believe
Yo finally you gave my beard which i've been growing for 8 years a purpose
Or he just uses haki as a counter. His haki coating being able to counter liquids does not sound crazy at all.
I wonder if Franky, Chopper, and Ussop could do something to help Gaimon and his girlfriend with their chest situation.
Gaimon's body is stuck in the chest and has grown to be a part of it (which can happen in real life; remember couch lady for the 2000s.)
But with the best doctor and a couple great engineers (plus maybe Vegapunk) working together, I wonder if they could rebuild Gaimon's (and his girlfriend's) bodies?
I can’t wait for Oda to give us consistent chapters again. These breaks are killing me
Kaido said it best, “Haki conquers all”
Thanks for the upload, always love when I see a new video from you
Speaking of song lyrics that inspire getting up there is a whole One Piece opening called Hard Knock Days.
Thank you for acknowledging my beard wisdom
