The Simpsons holds a place in pop culture unlike any show ever has or ever will.
It's funny, with all the amazing animated shows taking progressive strides (South Park, Family Guy, Rick and Morty), I agree that it's hard to believe any one show will take a leap into the beyond.
The only comparable thing is Star Wars imo.
True that.
in the spirit of this video , I'd hold off on the prediction "..or ever will" 😉
South Park better
one of my favorite jokes, i forget which episode, but bart and lisa were looking at some magazine predicting the future and it said people will have five fingers lmao
It's in the vocabulary-building episode IIRC, it's in that magazine that Lisa finds the casette tapes to lose weight... except the ones Homer receive are vocabulary-building ones because they've run out of diet ones
Omni Magazine! Which was a real magazine at the time.
The best guest actor will always be the late Phil Hartman who voiced many on The Classic Simpsons episodes.
Facts!
Rip 😢
He wasn't guest though he was part of the secondary cast. Guest are one or two episodes max and one character, Hartman did more
Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz were my favorite supporting characters in the show.
While there's no denying this show isn't what it was, and though certain modern episodes are great, the early seasons were absolutely outstanding TV. A game changing world affecting phenomenon, a marvel in semi-adult animation. The Simpsons plays a huge role in my childhood, shaping much of my humour and interests today. Great to see these two discussing the behind the scenes stuff!
@Guy Incognito Ho-mare? Who is Ho-mare?!??
I’m one of four siblings and we all loved the Simpsons and it helped shape our humour as children too. We are all very different people in our 30s now and the one thing that still binds us all together is sending each other Simpsons quotes and clips almost daily. I love that it has given us that.
Im 38 years old and have been watching this show since it began in 89'. It holds a special place in my heart...
Me too I believe our family literally sat around the tv during christmas time and watched the first christmas episode. (tear)
My cousin was obsessed with this show and he was the coolest so that’s how I started watching it. Best show ever!
You are old
It’s crap now. Once they went woke I stopped watching.
Changing voices because of race?
Lester in Cleveland show is white. The guy that voices him is black…?????
I hope you stopped in 99.
I grew up on The Simpsons, was 18 in 2007, studying music (in Australia). A few months after the movie came out, we had our big choir night & one of the students had transcribed Spider Pig for a 10-piece choir. The rest of us watching were cheering and stamping our feet. Loved it!
The Simpsons creators are all creative geniuses. They have a lot of insight to share with the world.
Its deeper than that, animator david silverman went on to win an Oscar animating monsters inc, hank azaria became a world class voice and character actor, John swartzwelder being this enigmatic but very good writer who did nothing but interject his ideas with mostly no feedback yet his writing still made it to air
@@deadmeatjb not to mention they’re all time travellers 😂
@@rileytipper5110 corny ahhh minor
Great video! A simple yet groundbreaking show to highlight.... This show keeps a pulse on what's relevant and they're somehow able to keep up (and predict!) what's going on in the world, year after year after year.... Truly remarkable. I have such admiration for the creators, writers, actors, and artists. Thanks for the heart warming, yet cynical perspective... And the legacy of giggles you continue to share with us. Much love.
well I might say "were"
I love this. I'm just starting in the animation industry and love hearing more details of industry tales.
Growing up as a kid in the 90's, The Simpsons were a cultural phenomenon. When the two part Who Shot Mr Burns episode aired, it was huge. The X files episode 2 parter was also huge. It was on 5 days a week here in Australia for years.
Which way does the water drain in your toilets?
I close the lid when I flush so I cannot answer this question@@GarytongueBetz-vl1fu
The x files episode wasn't a 2 parter.
Man I loved this show so much as a kid, Up to season 15 all of it was so unique and amazing.
Still isn’t anything like it now, and we probably won’t get anything like it again. Such a great show.
Bob's Burgers is pretty close tbh, and Futurama.
thank you for saying that the show was unique and amazing up to season 15. most people (sheeple) are ALWAYS saying that the show was good up to season 8, not even giving seasons 9 to 15 a chance. there were plenty of funny episodes during seasons 9 to 15 as well (HOMR is one of them, imo).
@Guy Incognito Thanks for proving everyone's point, dipshit.
@Guy Incognito not to me. seasons 1 to 15 were the good years, also thanks for proving my point about people being sheeple.
@@robroy6374 I would say up to 10 is amazing, and 11-13 started a slow decline that they never pulled out of.
The Simpsons started in 1989, the first episode was aired 3 months after I was born. By 8 years old I’d watched every episode twice. By 20 I’d seen every episode 3 times. it raised me and a whole generation on family comedy and the perception of the world through the eyes of the Simpsons. there is nothing and never will be anything like the Simpsons.
Wonderful. Thank you David, Matt, and GQ.
Treehouse of Horror hasn't been good for a very long time but this year's was a return to form, each segment was solid.
this season as a whole has been a much higher quality. There have been some misses but it seems like they're taking some risks and trying some new things.
@@Justking hmm. well if they give the white actors their roles back, i'll go back to watching it.
@@Justking i agree - the new ones are good again .
@@KairuHakubi OK snowflake.
@@johnmartinez7440 you know that term is used against your side, right? not mine. You can't just "no u" with it.
It was great hearing these guys talk. It almost made me wanna go watch some of the recent episodes. Almost.
I will.
I did a giant binge-watch on Disney+ and actually thought some of it was pretty decent.
Hank Scorpio as the villain in the Simpsons movie would’ve been sooo good
Truly
My 8 year old is currently on Season 3 and loving it.
I told him not to binge it too fast because there are only 8 seasons.
You're a good parent, but they also need to know how cruel the world can be!
Yea, I wonder why when I look at imdb there are 30 seasons when I know FOR SURE that only 8th of them actually exist. Must be some kind of bug
No, there are 34 seasons
@@cliffhanger5363 unlucky, haven't been up to date with the current 'trash'
@cliffhanger 536 after season 9 the show started to go downhill.
I've been watching all the Simpsons on disney + lately, this is so cool to see!

This has been my go-to comfort show, watching it over and over again!
I'd never heard of Herman and Katnip before. I always thought Ichy and Scratchy were only based on Tom and Jerry.
Me too
I thought it was based on spy vs spy even
@@AntonAdelson I've never heard of Spy vs Spy.

enjoy!
I love this show, I don't care what people say about it being over years ago, I still laugh when I watch new episodes too.
I need an hour and a half or more of this 👌
When I am in a bad mood or have a bad day, the Simpsons are always making me forget what I am going through and just make me laugh, huge nostalgia with this show also and watch it regularly even at the age of 26. Such a classic! The first 12 seasons are just golden. After that, the show kind of dropped in quality but still is watchable and had moments of laughter!
This show is my childhood. Would watch reruns after school. Would love new episodes aire on Sunday nights back in the day ❤️❤️
The Simpsons has always been my favorite show ever since elementary school. It’s become a part of my life at this point.
Ok Gonna watch this later man
Seems a really good one
Fantastic. This makes me wanna watch The Simpsons again
I am so happy I found this so happy
Forever wishing Disney Plus had the DVD director's commentary as an option. As a die hard classic Simpsons fan I could listen to these guys talk all day
I love how they are proud of the guests when … we skip those episodes
Speaking of memes, the one with Grandpa (12:55) coming into the club and circling with hat off his head and exiting with it back on after seeing Bart was one of the best.
Gonna luv this
i love it thanks you guys
When Bart raises his hand over the galactic travel mastery
There was a dip some years back, but what I love is they came back so strong season what is it, 32 or 33 is now my fave. Marge, Lisa and Bart becoming foodies, love that one.
3:32 "One of the ways the show stays fresh now" lol are you sure about that
I could watch hours of David, Matt, and the rest of the crew talk about the history of The Simpsons
"I don't like the idea of Milhouse having two spaghetti meals in one day."
“YEAH USED ME SKINNER!! YOU USED ME!!!”
Grew up on the simpsons never heard of Herman and Katnip till now lol
A lot of people slate the show now but being born in 1992 this show means a lot to me. It means a lot to anyone born in the 80s onwards I guess. It’s a huge part of our lives. Unpopular opinion, I never want this show to end
I was born 85 but i watched the Simpsons moment i could comprehend words,i will ball my eyes out ,when they do their last episode, show is almost older than me
Simpsons is what I watch to go to bed. Love the comfort
Born in late 1991 and have watched every single Simpsons episode ever, still can remember many many quotes
Also born in late 1991! Grew up on this show and now rewatching as an adult
I’m a big boy
Same story here!!
спасибо огромное за этот волшебный мульт сериал
Simpsons has been around so long for a reason. Now bring back APU!! Thank you, come again.
Yes please!
Such a poor decison caving into crazy ppl demands shows how weak the ppl behind simpsons are though
@@umarrazvi It's not the creators but the producers. It's only about money, not about politics. Don't be naive
@@tdb517 I know the producers care about money but crazy ppl have made it political. All Simpsons characters are sterotypes but apparently we cant have minority ones coz.. idk its bad, so they say. And wont they make their money anyway once u dont cave into loonies demand give it 2 weeks they cry about something else. So im not being naive im just saying the truth for what it is
@@umarrazvi you're calling the people behind the Simpson weak. It's inaccurate and simplistic. Calling everyone woke and weak is not a good way to make a point
Interesting hearing this point of view
Iconic show with so many memorable jokes and quotes. The Conan years (for me) are and will always be my favourite
GQ knocking it out of the park with great interviews like these.
I could watch 2 hours of this
The tree house of horror has been a staple in my Halloween tradition.
Kids, take notes. You're looking at two living legends
I still remember the Don Hertzfeldt couch gag
The New Orleans montage is iconic
I’m 32 and still watch the show almost daily. My 6 month old also loves it 😍
Don Hertzfeldt couch gag has to be the best one
The Simpsons hold a special place in Pop Culture, it was one of the first animated shows to hold a very special place in everyone’s hearts
Enjoyed watching this video 👍
Are you a robot?
@@crosstar nooo😅
GQ bringing the heat
The Simpsons: Epic! [SIDENOTE] SpiderPig goes down as the most memorable jingle for me...ever. Marge's introduction kills it!🤣"How did the pig tracks get on the ceiling?" Also, I wish they would've spoke on Phil Hartman's legacy and the characters he has played. I don't think there are more memorable characters than Troy McClure & Lionel Hutz!♥
Best animated show of all time.
Bar none. (Seasons 2-12 or whatever) nothing ever got close.
Nah. But its def wayyy up there
@@FoxGoesSquee yea, nothing comes close
The limping on of the show for decades after relevancy has ruined its legacy IMHO. Like 3 - 8 was up there as probably the best animated run ever but the "Simpsons" overall ruined itself with decades of inessential shows.
Not even. There are far better animated shows out there.
I appreciate the anime inspiration. Especially the death note reference.
I remember being happy to go to my babysitter because I knew three things. 1. I can play the NES. 2 and 3. I could watch the Tracy Ulman Show and get a chance to see The Simpsons short...though the 1st season of the show I was disappointed (as a kid) not seeing "The Real" Simpsons like what was on the Tracy Ulman Show lol.
Iconic!
I thought Groundskeeper Willy was Scottish because the Scotts invented Golf so they perfected the keeping of grounds. lol.
_I'm_ just now realizing that his first appearance was in an episode that featured groundskeeping heavily. It had literally never occurred to me before oh right, the character was made for the role in the story, not just at random to fill out the faculty.
this is why it's probably best I don't have my own TV show yet.
"Grease Me up Woman"
"O-k!
@@markoz673bajen8 ...okey dokey.
Wish this went longer.
Unlike the actual series
It’s amazing the Simpsons are still going.
The Simpson is ICONIC.
First let's say 8 seasons were so good I rewatch episodes even today, after that....
They are the true time travelers 😂
Simpsons and Futurama are the GOATS
4:11 YEA! SPIKE R MONSTER!!!
Growing up in the 90s in the Philippines, obviously, English isn't my first language. But watched a few episodes and I was hooked. At that time, I couldn't catch all yhe the jokes.
Watching this made me study hard to be fluent in English and then made me curious to expand my horizons to get the pop culture references
Happy 33rd Anniversary The Simpsons 💛 (1989-2022)
This was fun
The deathnote treehouse of horror episode made me watch deathnote for the first time😂 it was so good
I really hope they try experimenting alot. The episode "lisa the boy scout" was great
I would love to see some earlier draft scripts of the Simpsons movie
Can you guys get Ty Ollson to break down his career. Mans been in everything.
11:30 this would have been waaaay better than the movie we got...
Simpson Pictures That I Gone and Done should do a couch gag.
First animated sitcom? Fred Flintstone would like a word.
america's favorite non-prehistoric family
Even Homer Simpson was more self aware when he was singing his own name to the tune of The Flintstones theme, before hitting a chestnut tree with his car.
@@alanjamesh.zamorano1677 Yeah, but not much. Come on, lots of sitcoms wiht 'real people' who have LESS self awareness than Flintstones.
Seasons 3-10 will never be matched
How to spot a scrub: Doesn't appreciate Season 2, the best season.
it should have been Hank Scorpio.
it would have been awesome
Duffman! is thrusting. In the direction. Of the problem. OH YEAH! Can't wait for the Duffman centeric episode.
BTW, I have a theory that Duffman and Zapp Brannigan are related. Just like Fry and Farnsworth. They look alike, they act alike.
Also, I'd love the see the return of Hank Scorpio.
I really believe The Simpsons will run forever
how crazy and sick was the mc escher couch gag please? 3:17
I've seen an episode of Herman and Katnip, and it honestly doesn't seem like it's more violent than Tom and Jerry, in fact they both seem the same.
I’m currently working through each episode on Disney upto season 14 now. It’s a pity the Michael Jackson episode isn’t on Disney
yo ho ho matey
but he returnes in like season 30 or later
It definitely should have been Hank Scorpio 💯🤣🤣🤣
I hope if they ever decide to stop the Simpsons full seasons. They at least keep the Treehouse of Horror and Christmas episodes. I really look forward to those each year. I also hope they have another movie planned. :)
That would be cool. In the UK, they do that a lot with comedy series, just make a Christmas special.
Seasons 1-13 to me we're the best.
RUclips suggested me this video after i watched an India Jones video, is it cos Silverman's hat?
I was expecting Matt or Trey but they did well 😂😂
Thank you for the BEST show EVER!!!
lol it's not the best show ever though .
Its great seeing them 😊
I do love the crazy camera angles
I wish i could do a couch gag .. maybe i will try to make my own ones first.
The dethnote episode was great!
I wish they did a neon genesis parody
I was also surprised by spider pig …
I just think because they've built this show around stereotypes - the dumb, lazy husband, the disapproving housewife, the bookworm girl and the rebellious boy - it'd be hard coming up with fresh ideas that make sense with these characters. I feel like I've seen a dozen episodes about Lisa not fitting in, Marge trying a career, Homer fighting with a celebrity. It was fun for a while, but has become repetitive to me.
But also, I'm thinking of all my favourite shows, and I can't imagine any of them still being good if they ran this long.
release the scorpio cut
I'm watching 2 guys try to explain the death of my favorite shows.
It's not just the influence they have on 'toons..... many a Father Ted episode has a Simpsons vibe to it
The celebrities ruined the show as did the family guyesque asides. This show's first 20 seasons are the cornerstone of my sense of humor
