Your salary in Taiwan could be 1/3 of that in US but your living expenses are 1/3 in Taiwan!? this probably only happens if you compare NY to TPE, I noticed that the living expenses in Taiwan have been getting crazier over the past few years, the other advantage you can take is the tax rate
I also had similar "reverse culture shock" when I came back to look for a job.... (I think it would be better if you also consider a start-up company in TW.)
As a resident doctor in Taiwan, we actually have NO PTO at all in the first half of the year in our hospital. Then they will give you 3 days off in the second half😢😢
Interesting, RUclips brought me here. I am running counter to your goals. I am preparing to leave Taipei for the USA or the UK. As a 25-year design head, I can tell you that most local companies in Taiwan don't value brand strategists or brand designers unless you want to find a job in startups. Many senior designers or strategists have been leaving Taiwan for Singapore, Shanghai, Toyko, Canada, and the USA. Taiwan is losing its best soft strength.
I totally agree with you that most companies don't value brand. Do you think it's gotten worse or better in the last 25 years? I'm curious to hear your thoughts.
I did! I get into it a bit in my other video, if you're interested I'll link it here. But unfortunately due to corporate policies, they weren't able to accommodate :( ruclips.net/video/UKJR7B46KYk/видео.html
thank you Joanna :) I don't think I'm at the stage of my career to run a company yet haha but thank you for the positivity and encouragement! maybe one day!
U are too naive to just move back to Taiwan. Branding strategy is from headquarters. You can only focus on local companies that they need branding strategy, but they pay less than you expect. I think u could get whatever you can find first and move forward from there. If you work at ad agencies in Taiwan, it would be a nightmare, ma'am. U would not like it. I am sure.
thank you for your comment sir! I'm certain the work culture is immensely different. However, more and more Taiwanese companies are facing transitions, so hopefully there's more needs in branding from this market!
Taiwan is a great destination for travel and leisure, but,for sure, it is not a place to make a decent livings. The wages are unreasonably disgusting , and the work culture is ugh.
from my observation, the wages have been better in the last few years, but it's still only limited to specific industries (such as tech, those related to the semiconductor value chain...)
The mortgage price is as high as in New York(Taipei), and most people can't afford their houses, so they are either slaves to their jobs or helped by their parents.

As a Taiwanese who just found a job (but in a different field), what you said is totally true..
it’s a different mentality looking for a job in the US vs Taiwan!

did you go to a start up? how did it go for you?
歡迎回來 Kristine 😄

hahaha just me trying to plot my path
Didn’t you tell your New York job that you had another job offer from a Taiwanese firm lined up as a way to negotiate with the New York firm?
I did! I get into it a bit in my other video, if you're interested I'll link it here. But unfortunately due to corporate policies, they weren't able to accommodate :( ruclips.net/video/UKJR7B46KYk/видео.html
