I honestly feel like it's always more hype when not tied to the Affection mechanic. Makes it so the mon is surviving on sheer will and determination.
@@castform7 I mean it all depends on the person. One is pure RNG of an opponent's moves, another is RNG of the affection mechanic.
But a lot of people hate affection, so they'd agree with you. I think it's a little over-tuned in SwSh, at least, but otherwise I don't mind the mechanic.
I remember feeling the hype when my starter held on against Ultra Necrozma 3 times in a row. That was super hype indeed, but it was because it really mattered in a big way. In Brilliant Diamond, affection effects happened so often (and usually in fights with no stakes) they lost all value. Really depends on the context for me. And yeah, if you're wondering, the affection effect I saw ost often in BD was critical hits. Honchkrow gets 100% crit rate thanks to affection (Super Luck + Night Slash + Affection). It's bonkers, mostly because it just happens, no input required.
@@Lucifronz Despite me kinda dissing it in my comment, I don't mind it either. It was actually pretty sweet when I first used it. I'm just personally not a fan of when they mixed it with friendship from Let's Go Onward. I preferred the choice of whether or not I could get it's benefits through Amie and Refresh rather than it being something I have to interact with. That's just my opinion though.
@@Lucifronzwell for the affection, it can happen so frequently, it loses its special feeling very fast. My mons rarely fainted in the games that had that mechanjc

Not just underleveled but like 20+ levels under on some mons.
So yeah… epic fight.
I doubt it was easy...just guts, good moves, spamming Full Restores like Champions, and taking advantage of Red battling in a place where his Pokemon can be damaged by Hail hehe.
Getting excited over Stealth Rock? That's a comp player in the making right there
That 1hp moment on Pearl was so hype! The sound that came out of Tarny I'm pretty sure isn't from this world, but I totally understand her feelings in that moment 😅

Man, moments like that are what make certain Pokemon leave a lasting impression. That Espeon was her saving grace on TWO Champion fights, I have a feeling she's ALWAYS gonna love Espeon now lol.
Yeah, go get her an espeon plushie for Christmas and she'll be on cloud nine.
Boltund in my Shield play through, last Mon left against Leon’s Charizard whilst un-Dynamaxed came in clutch on like 2 HP and won me the title 🫡
The pure emotion that she had in that Red fight is something unparallelable. And her team was strong enough to take out an opponent 10-20 levels stronger than her own. Even skilled players can struggle without some cheesy strats with a level difference like that. Really shows how much she has grown!
Gotta say Pearl is the luckiest Mon ever and Dimple is definitely the MVP of the whole roster
To summarize the final battle: Dimple was the absolute MVP of this run and Pearl remembered the "hang in there" meowth poster.
Also can we finally consider Dimple to be her Ace Pokémon?

the 70% accuracy is a liieeeeee 😂😂😂
classic focus blast and stone edge: 110% accuracy if it's the opponent using it, 30% accuracy if it's you using it

Black and white even have the sequels so she can return to familiar areas like in HG with kanto
Kanto and Johto have now been covered. It's more likely that they will play the gen 3 remakes next
The immediate panic in her voice upon seeing a level 88 Pikachu was incredible.
And not just any Pikachu: It was a Pikachu with a Light Ball.
For those that don’t know, the Light Ball is a Held Item exclusively for Pikachu. It doubles both their Attack & Special Attack stats, making them a huge powerhouse with a defense made of paper. In other words, it’s the most accurate definition of a Glass Cannon.
It also has volt tackle,light ball volt tackle.

I remember my battle against Red back in Crystal. I encounter him completely by accident and was the biggest struggle fight I ever had.
As someone who experienced chugga's crystal lp, hearing both him and your girlfriend shout "OH MY GOD I GOT A PHANPY!" gave me a nice feeling.
So it wasn’t just me 😂

I don't normally comment to videos, but this series of Girlfriend Plays delights me to no end. Her genuine joy, confusion, fear, sadness, and triumph throughout her journey is so real and so raw. It's like being a kid all over again and feeling those same things for the first time. I hope you continue these videos, and can introduce her to Hoenn soon!! I feel she would really love them, especially the remakes.
Also, CONGRATS TARNY!! You beat Red with an underleveled team and still managed to come out on top!! That is an impressive feat and you should be very proud!! Dimple, the true MVP once again - Most Valuable Pokemon. ♥

I'll be really curious to see if she plays ORAS or emerald next. Her reaction to suddenly having everything in 3d, megas, infinite tms, and everything else would be really funny
Same but also what sinnoh game too bdsp or platinum bacuse of the story changes and going to 3d with qol back to sprite then back to 3d from gen 6 on
@@Nelsito99 I'd put good money down on it being plat. I'm sure Noicky has waaay too many memories with plat to do bdsp, especially with how most people hate it
IMO they should go back to Emerald (easier for Gen 3 mechanics) then back to Platinum (which has Gen 4 mechanics).
@@zjzr08 but she just played a game with physical special split it could confuse her and as all games afterwards follow that change it will teach her to get used to it better
@@Nelsito99 I mean it's just one more game before the split, so I think she can handle it (and to tell the truth, it isn't that important on normal playthrough).

Dude, the under-leveled Red fight was peak childhood nostalgia (except I got rolled over much faster as a kid). Would definitely like to see the full version of the Red fight but excellent video as always.

Ah yes, Houndoom. Always had a soft spot for that one! First thing I would do whenever I beat the elite four was waiting for nighttime and going for Houndour...those were the good old times..thanks for bringing back the memories! :)

I always thought of atk and sp. atk as melee moves and distance moves. To me that explanation makes more sense in separating the two types of moves. That part of the video was so funny because it's so relatable to be confused by imo

I just watched the two Heartgold episodes back to back. Can I just say, I love the editing on the important fights. It's so smooth. And was probably really tedious, considering how many little tidbits you had to cut out.
if shes up for up, i would watch all 9 gens! its so neat to watch and live vicariously through her first time experiences! nothing beats that first playthrough!
im sure they’re coming! the next few games (MINUS YOU SUN AND MOON), granted she’s playing the remakes like ORAS and BDSP are much easier to accomplish and she’ll love the fairy type

I think explaining the history of the pre- physical and special split only confuses new players. I grew up on it and didn't even know it existed. Lol. She's in HGSS gen 4 anyways so explaining the now "regular" split as is with no history lesson is more helpful imo. Same with new players in general.

A good video, it made me feel emotions. The first few pokemon games you play are special ones and they make you attached. It's always nice to see someone getting into the series and she did a lot better in a nuzlock than most people do even on their later runs

I first figured out physical vs. special like this decades ago: physical is like a fist fight, whereas special is like a magic/ranged fight. Some water types use water to beat up other Pokemon in close quarters, while others toss or move water with their mind. Some Pokemon deal with being punched better than having stuff thrown at them from a distance or magic.
The juxtaposition of wholesome Boy Meets Girl content with music from a hentai game is kinda wild
