Listen as truckers were already walking on ice every time we start the damn truck. If your walking on ice might as well dance! The DOT and EPA can eat a mud flap! Straight piped and loud Jake’s and whatever engine you want! Only rules we should abide by is being safe on the road.🤘🏾

With my 1947 Mack I replaced the original engine in 1989. I used a reconditioned 8v71T Detroit Diesel engine with a new 10 spd road ranger, newer rear ends. It is my logging truck in Alaska. The chances of me buying a newer truck is up there with pigs producing people.

My dad bought a freightliner glider that was totaled. He purchased just the cab and the and the title. The title was NOT a rebuilt title and was clean. It cost $34,000. He brought it home and he swapped his 2014 Cascadia cab for the Glider cab. It took him 18 months of nights and weekends but in the end the "new" truck had a S60 from a 1999 Pete and an 18 speed. That was in 2016. He just hit 700,000 miles with it and it still runs like new. The gauge cluster was removed and installed the Petes speedo and RPM and engine warning cluster was put in place the petes computer runs the engine and cruise and jakes and the Freightliners Body / Chassis Control Module was custom flashed ...that process took six months of tinkering to figure out.The cruise was the hardest part to get to work. If anyone wants pics and wiring details just email me from my about page and I will send you pics. My dad was offered $120,000 just last year by a dealership working on it. And YES, Freightliner will work on your engine swapped truck ONLY if it is a glider.

It depends on how you want to do it. There ARE legal ways to repower a new truck with an old engine....but the paperwork more or less grenades the resale value. That and it can cost thousands and take months of red tape. For example if you sell the truck as scrap then buy it back with a salvaged title. You can do a repower and get a rebuilt/reconstructed title with whatever engine on it and at that point its now effectivly a not quite glider thing with a 1 off special vin.
However good luck ever selling that truck. People are going to take one look at the title and nope the hell out. Plus a few guys i know who did it had the paperwork take upto 6 months in some cases plus a ton of safety inspections and so on. The paperwork alone ran them nearly 7k.
You can also get yourself a salvaged glider with a good frame and transfer everything across one way or another if you catch my meaning and just retitle the rebuilt glider and get the same reconstructed title. Its a pain in the ass but entirely doable and usually cheaper and faster.
There is also the beyond useful life span rule but that one has been so abused and is so wishy washy that anything could happen.
The main issue is that now that commifornia has set the precident you can ban pre emissions engines entirely....its only a matter of time before the EPA get dollar signs in their eyes and turn the goverment fine rifle towards you.

The problem could be in the computer, not the motor itself. Like you said Ryder is pretty reputable company and has been around a long time, remember the motor only does what the computer tells it and the computer is the weakest link subject to temperature , voltage and humidity changes that can effect it. Had a '14 Pete in and out of the shop for a better part of 6 months till a remanufactured computer fixed it.

Do like acme markets used to do back in the day. They ran all Macks .
They tore the trucks down to the frame rails, get all the steering suspension and brake work whatever they needed. The transmission and rears got all new bearings and seals along with whatever else they needed,. They installed a factory rebuilt pedigree engine done at Macks engine plant in Maryland. Then they got a brand new factory cab all dressed out with brand new interior everything and they refurbished the fiberglass Hood.
They came out beautiful you would have thought they were brand new trucks unless you looked really close. Acme markets was a very well managed fleet at the time
I've done a few of those cab replacements on DM and RD dumps and roll off trucks back in the day. Installing a fully dressed cab really isn't that hard . I'm going back probably into the early to mid-nineties and at that time a fully dressed cab for an DM r Rd was somewhere around 7,000 to 8,000 brand new.
Just a side note back in the 1960s they made a BCR kit that converted a b model into an r model,, kind of
Sort of. If you knew what to look for, there were a lot of differences, but to the untrained eye it looked like an R model

God only knows what they might do, for all I know they could ban all diesel powered trucks and equipment in the next couple years. And you have idiots like Elon musk telling them that we can replace it all with electric powered trucks. Those electric semis have a tare weight of at least 30,000 lb is a bobtail. Not to mention to do that half hour charge that he claims you need a two megawatt charger. That's a 480 volt, 2,500 amp, three-phase circuit for each and every charging stall. And that only gives you the capacity to charge 48 trucks in a day if you time them right comment and we both know it's never going to be time right and it'll be a line waiting to charge

The EPA fined the Diesel Brothers on RUclips like $850,000 for showing how to delete or by deleting trucks.
So do you want to be fined, then possibly have to put back a DEF system. It’s a shame that you pay $150,000ish for a truck and it’s motor/emissions won’t last.
The EPA needs to get a better systems developed or lesson the emission standards. Maybe there needs to be lawsuits against the EPA(yeah right) to get the emission starts to a level where the trucks can be used with living in a shop
Love your content, such a fan of big trucks n the industry. I’m disabled, but if god every blessed me so I could work again it would be as a OTR trucker.

It just amazes me that the epa can get parts made and enstalled that are bad. doensn't do its job. should never be installed. For the price and the cost to repair, not worth owning a newer truck

EPA doesn't build the "parts" or 'design" them all they do is put out this is the standard you must meet them. Problem was really bad starting in 2003 to 2010 because EPA came in and moved goal posts forward by 3yrs NO ONE WAS READY. Other problem was it was changing every 3 yrs so engine manufactures trying to meet EPA rules, trying to fix current engine problems plus working on next emission step. Problem that's still on going DRIVERS, OWNERS after 14 yrs still don't understand system. Still won't clean DPF filter, replace DEF filters, still cant read engine owners manual, still idle the piss out of it and say this engine not like my 2000 I had well daaaaaaaaaaa. AMAZING we local fleets with dump trucks, concrete trucks and the city truck they don't have problems as over the road trucks. Same crap they complain about now and complained about old trucks too. I know it would piss off a lot of folks but if the guys at the top can’t get their favorite caviar for their dinner meeting on trade they are having, then maybe we can start opening up a few eyes or maybe km just dreaming, but the crap they come up with sitting behind their keyboards is unbelievable and they have no clue of the repercussions of what their actions are! Trucking companys should stop for 2 weeks show who really has the power. In 2 days all stores will be empty, 3 days no gas at station and would take few months to recover. We have outside forces that sue for every rule change in trucking industry. Or they put someone in charge of Dept of Transportation that has no clue about trucks or shipping. Biden doing it right now he's like we should raise tax on fuel. Problem they kept sticking their hand in funds and used money for other things. I had a question why is the Unkm elected people in the department have the ability to make laws like this or regulations they’re on elected officials which is illegal because we have to have Congress elected politicians who makes the law not these appointed people in the department are deciding to make these rules and regulations so how can they make you pay anything or regulate you when they’re not even elected officials from the We the people looks like the government does not work for us when they have an elected officials making rules and regulations and being able to charge you fines that’s distortion in the illegal on the government half

The problem with the emissions equipment on our trucks is that it is all aftermarket. The engine manufacturer and thuck builder does not male the emissions equipment. What needs to happen instead of tryong make bs laws about changing engines is this. We need to send somepne to Washington to represent us and get a law passed that makes all components of the emissions system 100% full parts and labour warrantied for 10yrs from the sate of sale of the truck no matter how many owners it still is covered for 10yrs. Then the makers of the parts will start making sure that they work properly. As it stands now we are guinea pigs to them because we pay for all this junk that does not work

Hey guy!!! When you talk about crap like changing motors and getting ride of the emissions motors and replacing them with a good motor. It brings the EPA and DOT attention to owner operator and normal guys working. Please don't do crap like that. I imagine you are an educated man by the way you talk and act. But think before you talk about stuff. Damn New Yorkers. They think and act like they know everything.

@@mcstgg You are right!?!? Not educated, I have a bachelor's, 11 years active duty Army, but I think buy no means am I an educated man. I just don't like things being brought to attention that guys who are trying to get buy and survive on their own. Guys who love their jobs and their trucks but have keep to keep working. What I am trying to say is that not all trucks are perfect and the emissions crap is not reliable and very expressive to fix. And when people bring to attention how some guys are running their trucks. It makes the government and states start paying attention to owner operator's and can screw them over. So I don't like crap being brought out to the light. Sorry about the New York comment. Just ever time I am there it seems like I run into the rudest people.

This bs about not being able to swap engines is just bs. Take for example a new truck grenades its engine. Does that mean it cant be fixed. I think not. But wait you put in a new engine and the serial # does not match the vin woops. Engine swaps are legal. If some dick head cop or dot tells you different tell him to write you up and you will settle with him in court. That will end that part of the harassment

    • @flintcreektransport

Engine swaps are legal as long as the engine getting replaced isn’t older than the engine that was in ..... I know. Crazy law !! Only if you get caught though !!!! 😜

No good will come of this emission nonsense. I'm absolutely sure every company that has tractors on both side of the emission divide can look at their numbers all day long and just shake their heads. Big fleets just have a ton of extra trucks sitting around for spares. Terrible way to have to do business. Those jacks are really handy. Are they individually portable?

Just spoke to their mechanic the other day. They can't and won't do gliders anymore. Strictly mechanics and rebuilds of existing equipment and they must adhere to EPA standards. Besides, their D-60's were crap as they used the cheapest rebuild kits they could get and they are not as good as they could be. Detroit runs at a higher RPM and needs a solid balance job on the entire crank, rod, and piston assembly. At least matched to 0.10 of a gram. A three angle valve job is always a good thing and they don't even know what that is apparently.
BTW... I did ask why they still have their web-site up advertising gliders if they don't do them anymore. The answer I got left me a little dumbfounded. "We let the web-designer/tech support guy go a couple of years ago."
