im from iquitos and yeah, my experience is that people from lima arent very friendly. dont know why but it could be a big city thing. i now live in florida but when i visited new york city, no one was friendly and it reminded me of lima. when i go to my hometown, everyone is so warm and friendly.
im peruvian, my father always talked about a "lost" brother of his, the story goes that he was press ganged/conscripted into the army and sent off to fight the terrorists, eventually "going missing", i never really cared much until one day he found his facebook profile, then in mid last year he visited us, turns out that he had finished his service a year after and settled in Puerto Maldonado, where he stayed for the next 40 years of his life
Hi most people fly to Maldonado to then take a boat to one of the few jungle lodges along the Madre de Dios river, also people in the jungle are more chilled out and party creatures, be aware of gigantic spiders, snakes and huge bugs and insects, Maldonado is the starting point for Amazon jungle adventures and exploration, it’s not a destination on itself really
I have been there! I could have been your guide for free, love that place, there are some tours that make you go deep into the forest wich are quite the experience
@@SomeFreeTimeActivities yeah, there are many agencies in the city who do that, though they are not done every day so I suggest to look up their websites or facebook in order to get an idea when is the next tour available
If you are still in Perú, and you don't really know where to go, I really recommend you to go to Piura - Tumbes (North coast of Perú/Look for "ñuros", you can swim with turtles there. Sadly is not the beast season to go in, but in the north the temperature is hot all the year)
Mas videos de mi Perú porfavor, me entretiene verte siendo extranjero. Debido a mi economía nunca salí de Lima pero espero poder conocer yo mi propio país jaja
The town of Puerto Maldonado is not a tourist attraction, so you only see a few tourists. If you do some research, the major attractions are outside of town. These include some of the In-Jungle resorts and some of the most spectacular sites of the Peruvian Amazon. The Tambopata Reserve, for example, is one of those places where you need to be at least once in your life. My experience in this area of Peru was incredibly unique, very different from the more recognizable Cusco tourist experience. I'm glad you visited Puerto Maldonado, but you missed a lot of what makes this area great.
Currently, how safe is Cuzco, Puno, and Arequipa? I was there 5 years ago and loved it. However, i heard there are a lot of protests. What have you seen?
"is a rare sight"......sometimes some Haitians will come through or some black Cubans. One of my black Cuban friends was living here but he made the trek to the US and now lives and works in Texas....He is very dark skinned and I was like his only friend here. We were "Super-Minority Brothers". Another funny thing about Peruvian culture is that they will refer to people even as a term of endearment based on their body shape or color of their skin. They will call me "Colorado" or "Gringo". Even if one of their own is dark skinned they will call them "Negro" or in a husband/wife relationship "Mi Negro" or "Mi Negrito". They even use the word "Sambo" which when first heard it I was a little shocked. Also if you are skinny they will call you "flaco" and if you are fat they will call you "Gordo" (fatty). If you have asian eyes they will call you "Chino" irrespective of if you are American Indian, Chinese, Japonese, Korean, etc. All asian looking people are call "Chinos".
I did not get/need any vaccines to visit Peru. You will need yellow fever and malaria if/when visiting Africa however. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching! Saludos! 🍻
Seems like it is not a hot tourist spot. But I enjoy going to places like that as well, you really get the see the real culture and the real people. For example I loved Cordoba while I thought Buenos Aires was cool, it just wasn't as interesting.
I dont know how I end up in your channel, but I love when people explore my country.
I sincerely appreciate the kind words! Thank you for watching, more videos to come! Saludos 🍻
Another great down to earth video! Thanks for sharing your journey off the beaten path!
