Awe, thank you for letting me know. I appreciate the channel support 🙏🏻 if you have time as you’re watching my videos to also watch the ads that pop up, it’s very helpful. Thank you 😊
Well It’s just about time for our baby to start going out, so I’m glad I caught this video. We were waiting till after he is fixed. Very soon. He still bites but now we know it’s just him being soooo excited when we pet him and kiss him. He doesn’t hurt he just has to have our hands in his mouth. We keep telling him no bite but that doesn’t work. We tried ignoring him the minute he bites us, that doesn’t work. Idk. He’s such a sweetheart. He has slowed down a lot though. We think he got his last tooth in. He’s so adorable. Every time someone walks in a room where he is you just can’t help but pick him up and kiss him and he loves it. ❤❤❤🥰🥰🥰😘😘😘
What about if they go outside and pee (a good amount) then come back in and pee again inside the house very shortly after that? I take my puppy chihuahua out a bunch of time anytime he shows interest in wanting to get down I take him out first and then bring him in try to get him to eat some and then usually he naps on the couch beside me and essentially it’s a continuous routine I work from home so it’s pretty consistent. I’ve just noticed him do this a couple of time now go out potty then come back in and shortly go again inside the house if we give him any space to roam for a little bit in the house or let him down off the couch to eat.
I just watched your video and it was a big help!! We got a 3 months male chihuahua yesterday, he has been vaccinated twice, he needs one more but they had been training him already, my question is, at this age, is it ok to feed him morning and afternoon? That’s what the previous owner was doing but he seems to be hungry in shorter periods of time 😬
In one week my husband and I are receiving our baby Chihuahua, Frida Valentina!!!! 🕺🏻💃🏼🐶!!! I’m immersing myself into your videos! We love watching you!!! We watched your video on crate training and followed the link to Amazon but the crates they have seems so huge. So if by chance you see this message please let me know what the proper size is for my sweetie pie.
Hello!! I’m currently working on the suggestions you have given here. Thank you very much. My pup is a boy. We live in the northwest lots of snow. I do also have a big dog. I’m wondering if I should do the crate pad and bed idea and also this education to help my Chihuahua mix go potty outside. We have had some difficulty but that’s on me because I was letting him have run of the house. So I’m thinking puppy pad in crate by the front door and crate with bed attached for down time. Then every 2 hours we all go outside to potty in our yard. What do you think? Or should I just have a crate with a blanket by the door and only have him go outside every 2 hours? I don’t want to confuse him. Thank you very much. I love your videos!
My apologies for missing your question so long ago. I just now saw this. Yes I think it’s an excellent idea for everyone to go outside with the puppy when he’s learning to go potty. Often times dogs learn by example so if he sees other dogs going outside to go potty then he will follow suit. If he’s the only dog but he goes out with his human to go potty, that’s OK too because then you’re right there to give him praise when he has success. Wishing you and him the very best 🙏🏻❤️
Hey thank you for the video what age can I start training mine ? She’s 10 weeks and weeing all over the flat. I have to go downstairs to taker her out I’m on the 6 floor is it to late ?
Hi Kelly!! I would love it if you could do a video on how to teach an older chihuahua to use a pee pad if they’ve always been used to going outside. I have a 6 yr old rescue chi that I would like to get to use the pee pad just like my other baby...
Hello, my apologies for taking so long to reply. I only just now saw your comment. I would actually use the same method for an older puppy as I do for young ones learning to use the pad. Watch these 2 videos to see that method: ruclips.net/video/mwx2lun7Vm8/видео.html ruclips.net/video/Q3_hSqo-220/видео.html I hope you find that helpful. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Girl Ka yeah, it takes a while for them to get the hang if it. I feel like the rigid consistency up front pays off in the end though because early training helps reduce bad habits that become more difficult to break the older they get. Thanks for your feedback.
Some dogs train in 2 days, I've had a dog that did but the one I have now isn't getting the hang of it at all. Unfortunately, I don't have access to enzyme cleaners so that's a problem. Also I got her a little late, at 4 months and she spent her life in a crate and never learnt to potty in a spot
I live in a condo. I will be getting a 1 yr old Chihuahua soon from a animal rescue. Do you have tips on how to manage potty training. I live on the 24th floor!
24 floor! OH my goodness. Is there a designated potty area in your building? Ground floor? Roof top? I would say number 1 CONSISTENCY! If you take her or him out to the potty area at the same time, morning, afternoon, evening - right after meal time, they are VERY smart and will figure that out. Otherwise, set up an indoor area, such as a potty crate or a potty pad in the bathroom, bathtub area. There are options. Chihuahuas are PERFECT for small living spaces, such as in a high rise.
Melissa Fabbri that’s awesome! I think Border Collies are considered one of the more intelligent breeds. Well, at least in this case, yours seems to be quite smart 👏🏻
@@SweetiePiePets lol that was supposed to say my border collie mix taught my pup how to go potties out side, she goes under the tree and tries to chase the older dog but she keeps falling in the snow (wee have over two feet of the wire stuff out side except under the tree and the driveway)
Melissa Fabbri oh wow, she’s even smarter than I realized teaching your puppy the ropes 😍 what a good girl! My Tina used to help train the babies too. It was so helpful.
I watched this with Dempsey and he suggests owners do a happy dance when their wee pal does the right thing in the right place, but please none of you use that bush beside the back fence or he will pee right on top of your scent!!! Sheesh. That boy has attitude! I hate the happy dance now....I think I overpraise him.😈😂😍
@sweetiepiepets Pleaser help 🥺🙏 What do you mean by define the puppy to a smaller space between going potty ? 😵💫😓 I really don't get that.. because when I get my pup in 20 days, I don't think I will be using a crate/cage/small space etc...
Confining the puppy to a smaller area helps with potty training because there are fewer places to “go” so the chances of going in the wrong place are greatly reduced. Keep in mind that it’s a misconception to think of crates as mean or inhumane. Dogs in the wild have their puppies inside a cave or small area. That’s their natural instinct to want to be able to hide them and go in a safe space. A crate/small habitat area is actually comforting to a puppy rather than confining in the way humans might think. If you decide not to use a small space… Well good luck trying to potty train. I’m sure it can be done but it will require 24/7 monitoring of your puppy. That’s hard while you’re sleeping
Gary L yes, you can train them to do both. I recommend to start with just one of the methods though and then introduce the outside once inside is mastered. Good luck to you
If I were to use a Fresh Patch inside the house from the time I would get my chi puppy can he/she ever be trained to go ONLY outside? Or on the covered lanai where I could move the Fresh Patch and keep it there as a permanent place for potty? I am concerned that if my puppy is trained to pee inside the house he would start peeing in other parts of the house as an adult dog even where there is no Fresh Patch. Can Chihuahuas ever be fully housebroken? Do any of your adult Chi's make mistakes off the pee pad or whatever you use?
what do I do? My mom says that she is gonna buy chihuahua but I am in school for 8 hours and she is 7 hours and we have no one at house to go outside with her! my mom said that she is gonna buy her, so you don't change her mind. Help!
My puppy is four months old and potty pad trained but we want to start training him outside, so are you saying that in between potty breaks he has to stay in a tiny cage or am I allowed to play with him in the living room as long as he’s right with me? We have an enclosed pen in the kitchen with a little bed and a pee pad, should we take the pee pad out? And how often do we take him out? Some people say every hour some people say more often and my head is spinning. Thank you so much for any help
So sorry I missed your question before. While he’s still training, he should stay in his crate when you are not able to be right there watching him. Think of it as a toddler in a play pen so you can make sure he’s safe while you’re not immediately paying him mind. And don’t worry, if done right, they LIKE their crate set up. It’s sort of like their own little habitat with all their needs and entertainment. Don’t forget the toys or he will be bored. I’ve made a few videos that you might find helpful. One of them is training your puppy from pee pads to outside potty training and the other is implementing a schedule. I’m also working on a video that will be released this Thursday on my newest habitat set up that I prefer for my puppies. Wishing you and your sweetie pie the very best.
In that case you’ll need someone to come help out during your long shifts. Once they’re trained, some of them can hold it for 12 hours. But during training, they won’t be able to last 12 hours. If you don’t have anyone to come take them out, I recommend training her to use pew pads in this house.
Yes, it works for males the same as females. Keep in mind that “marking” is different thing than going potty so you’ll need to get your boy fixed before puberty so he doesn’t start marking
So if you have a little pup who hasn’t had the vaccines and you start with the potty pads inside … when you are ready to outdoor train do you totally cold turkey take the pee pads away?
What I like to do is slowly transition the potty pad toward the back door, then half way out the door, and eventually outside completely.. best of luck to you
Would you have your 8 week old puppy immediately go outside if you already have a potty trained dog? Is the older dog going to want to start peeing inside? Also, it's winter I think it might be too cold for her little body. She is a chiweenie.

Parvovirus is a deadly puppy disease and can live in the dirt without a host for up to seven years. If your puppy goes outside to go potty and is exposed to Parvo it could be very detrimental. I think the best method is to clean up their poo immediately when they do so there’s no chance of the behavior. One of my adoptive mothers told me she has success with her sweetie pie by simply establishing a new behavior/routine. She turned it into sort of a game where every time the baby would poo, she would tell the baby to sit and stay while she watch mama pick it up in a tissue and flush it down the toilet then make a big / excited deal over it. She says her baby leaned the new behavior and eventually would poop then sit next to the poop waiting for mama to pick it up. No matter the reason, it will take patience and consistency to work through the behavior. Best of luck to you and your sweetie pie
Such good advice! A lot of people let their little pups have run of the house and then get upset when there’s accidents!!
Yes so true. Puppies are like babies and need to be taught how to do things with love and patience ❤️
Thank you so much sweetheart. This video was helpful and so cute. You do such a great job. Your babies are so sweet. I wish you were in Georgia. 🐅💕💕

They’re killing my soul.
Lol!! Maybe you shouldn't let them in your bed yet!
What age can I start potty training my chiweenie
The earlier the better/easier. I start at age 4 weeks when they first begin to walk out of their beds.
Why do some Chihuahuas eat their own poop & how can you stop them.
We aren’t quite sure why some of them eat their poo. There are various theories including some sort of vitamin deficiency or a learned skill from watching their mother clean up after her babies when they are young, but I tend to think it’s a personality trait. Some dogs take on the role of “care giver”. They feel it’s their job to take care of all the dogs (sometimes they eat only their own poo or only the poo of the other dogs in the pack…it’s random). There are some products you can buy to feed them which supposedly helps to make the poo a more fowl smell/taste, but they all have mixed reviews and many people report it does nothing to change the behavior. I think the best method is to clean up their poo immediately when they do so there’s no chance of the behavior.
