One convincing argument supporting Elvis Presley's lack of racism is the degree to which all of his HIS music was so very influenced by the Negro Spirituals and other Black music of the time, in which Presley grew up. It WAS! And, such is life and such also cannot be refuted, can it?

It's hard to imagine racist would be a disgrace to Elvis when he repeatedly took writes, money, and fame from Black people. He basically stole Black magic and profited from it. Such a shame. @@crazy4corbinbleux Michael Jackson was a beastly animal that stole from other black people, as well as the innocence of his many male tot victims. He definitely stole the moonwalk from old time AA dancer, Bill Baily that can be seen doing the same dance steps on black and white film clips, from way back in 1952. Jackson's own employees say that the dirty dancer refused to issue their paychecks for months at a time, and expected the maids to work for free. Prince was much more talented than the grossly over rated boi predator, Michael Jackson. Of course Elvis was not racist. The film does a great job at addressing cultural appropriation and giving credit where credit's due whilst also showing that Elvis did what he could during the societal struggles of the time and I believe Priscilla recognizes that. I wish Piers would at least address that instead of continuously indulging in his own echo chamber and, with that, staying incredibly small-minded. If anything, Piers is really good at simplifying a really complicated and layered issue, essentially doing the same as what he accuses 'woke cancel culture' of. So what is he really contributing besides preaching to the choir and feeding his ego?

@@crazy4corbinbleux maybe read what I said again: "The film does a great job at addressing cultural appropriation and giving credit where credit's due whilst also showing that Elvis did what he could during the societal struggles of the time" Elvis grew up in a black community. That music was truly a part of him, as the movie shows. Was it wrong that a white person got the opportunities that a black person didn't? Yes, obviously. Was it wrong that he got to make all that money from it while a black person couldn't? Yes. You could also view him as introducing black music to the masses and breaking barriers. Essentially that's what he did and he suffered the consequences: they way he was moving - inspired by black culture - ended him up having to do service overseas for two years. But after that he continued anyway because he was simply being himself, and with that making a statement. Things aren't always so black and white, pun intended.
Uh. “We”? Speak for yourself. I’m black and have always been under the impression the man was a racist. I have many people in my community to back up these sentiments.

Loads of white artists have black female backing singers, because they sound great and usually can sing the pants off of the star lead singer. The reason they are backing singers is because historically the music industry didn't want to promote them as solo artists and white audiences preferred listening to, and watching, white people singing and playing rather than black folks, so it was, and in many cases still is, their only way of making a little money. It is only our new "woke" environment that has tainted everything and turns everyone against everyone. MJ said the media only called him out after he broke sales records. His comments were in 2001, and they were blatantly false. The allegations were well before that. He was simply deflecting. As for his comments about Elvis, he was angry that Lisa Marie divorced him. He never made those comments prior to that. This is not a new story. Jaded people always make such comments. They want to hurt those they feel hurt them. The allegations about him and young boys began in 1986. The Police started to investigate him in 1993. None of that lines up with the timeline of his argument. He was simply playing the race card instead of making a reasoned argument. He also mentioned that no Black people were on book covers. What an absolute lie! Oprah was the biggest thing in media at the time (maybe still is). Shaggy was the biggest selling artist. Eddie Murphy and Denzel Washington were two of the highest paid actors in 2001. Elvis never called himself the "King" and would tell people that Fats Domino was the King of Rock or that Jesus is the King, not him. Elvis and Jackie Wilson were friends. When being from the South labels you as racist. In parts of Canada for instance, people are not used to seeing black people. Racism might be an issue there (I'm from Canada and have seen it). Segregation does exist in some US Southern states (and elsewhere in the US and Europe) but not all people in South are racist. Black Americans are part of the fabric of the United States and were there long before others came on board. Elvis grew up with them, sang with them and lived with them. I'm sure he could not envision the US without its Black population. When I compare Canada to the States I always feel that the US has its very own unique soul and both white and blacks are part of it and let's not forget Elvis did remind others that Black Americans were the source of his music. I just cannot envision the Unites States without its Black citizens. It would not be the same country. When Elvis says " Oh Dixieland, where I was born......." he is refering to the land that belongs to all Americans there, both white and black.
If you watch the news racism is alive and well in the South. But that’s not true. Southern culture makes up a ton of different people. One thing I can say factually we have a problem with is gossiping about others. Some Southerners will be hospitable & kind and then go talk about others and in a way our culture encourages this bc we are very vocal and love to talk. There will always be people who hate others for skin tone, but they are a very low % of society & have to hide because racism isn’t openly socially acceptable.

HERE ARE THE FACTS: The great legends of color in his era: BB King - Jackie Wilson - James Brown were there to witness Elvis‘ creativity. He was a one-of-a-kind super talent that grew up in the black community during the Great Depression and segregation in the deep South. Born in 1935 in a shack his father built (no electricity or plumbing). His twin brother died at birth. The Presleys were so poor that they buried his stillborn twin brother in a shoe box. So Elvis experienced the depths of poverty from the day he was literally born. He grew up playing with black friends on the streets and in black and white southern Baptist churches, in the poorest mixed and black neighborhoods in Tupelo. His support for the civil rights movement is not known by the greater population in America. The new Elvis 2022 movie is going to examine this part. This is why almost all black musicians from that era absolutely loved Elvis because he was able to take that Memphis sound all around the country and then the world. Little Richard credited Elvis Presley multiple times for opening up the door for black music and creating a path that he could travel and so he could make his mark. Clearly a terribly racist time Elvis put poverty and racial socialization on his platform. But he did it all through Music and his behind-the-scenes actions alone. He never got political I think that’s what actually made him so powerful and able to succeed. JOHN LEE HOOKER - "Elvis was a really good friend of mine.... I had a huge argument with a friend about elvis. In the end it was agreed that elvis, himself, was not racist. There are some who see his rise to fame as something that represents a white man being successful singing black music, while black musicians never made it big. Even those who did, didn’t reach that level of financial independence.

No. That idea is as full of holes & music inaccuracy as a white supremacist evaluation on Presley & 1950's Rock n Roll music. 1)Presley is being held accountable for the lives of the Blues artists that came BEFORE Him. Rock n Roll came from a bigger music gene pool than just Blues/R&B. 2)When Presley crossed over to the POP (white) charts/Hit Parade, in 1956(with 'Heartbreak Hotel'), Black Rock n Roll artists were already topping the POP charts. Little Richard, along with many Black Rock n Roll artists was appearing in the most successful RnR Movie of the 1950's ,The Girl Can't Help It'. He sang the title tune to the Movie & was billed Equally to the white music artists in the Movie. 3)Those Black Rock n Roll artists, Chuck Berry, Little Richard,Bo Diddley, The Platters, Frankie Lymon,Fats Domino(& more) indeed did "make it big" & got rich. It was the Blues & Country artists got left behind by Rock n Roll. BLACK Rock n Roll artists also left behind BLACK Blues artists. ruclips.net/video/W4XVKl4j1VA/видео.html ruclips.net/video/DnBAWvnq8l8/видео.html ruclips.net/video/3750jlrtIKg/видео.html 'ROCK ,ROCK ,ROCK' (1956) ruclips.net/video/n3GJooJUj2Q/видео.html FULL MOVIE: ruclips.net/video/t1GmNhxnEck/видео.html 4) Black journalist STEREO WILLIAMS: "That Elvis had a much bigger hit with 'Hound Dog' compared to its original singer, Big Mama Thornton, is also often cited as evidence of his benefitting solely from being a white face. But in the 1950s, hit songs would be recorded by several artists; and while there were many blatant examples of 'white washing' black hits for white audiences (see: Pat Boone), it wasn't automatic that the White artist would have the bigger hit or the definitive version. 'Blueberry Hill' is considered by many to be Fats Domino's signature song, but it had been written by Vincent Rose and recorded by several artists prior to his much more well-known 1956 version. It's hard to imagine racist would be a disgrace to Elvis when he repeatedly took writes, money, and fame from Black people. He basically stole Black magic and profited from it. Such a shame. Here is one of my favorite quotes from Chuck Berry - the true pioneer of Rock and Roll “No, it is not unfair that six people have on gray suits and I have on a blue suit or it's not unfair that seven people are eating turkey and I chose to have chili or whatever. That's what it was. More people chose his music than chose mine … or my records…” :'( *sigh*

The black community did NOT like Elvis, and even after his death until recent years have struggled to appreciate his work when artists like Otis Blackwell and Chuck Berry are getting overshadowed by his music. Where are the real pioneers of his music? No one will ever know their names or see them on the covers. As someone from the black community and as someone who attended schools with history books that were manipulated to not share our STORY- I know the entertainment industry is no different, if not worse. I am not gonna let Piers Morgan or any youtubers (race unknown) convince me that my own community loves elvis when I know the complications and controversy that existed with him in our community. The most annoying part of this film was their obsessive urgency to keep convincing the audience that Elvis always credited black people and went into the black streets and brought blacks and whites together. They knew this is one of his biggest controversies and in an effort to save his legacy and cover his back, they overdid this part of the film. This was complete hyperbole and kept getting rubbed in our faces the entire 3 hours. I also found it completely disgraceful and horrendous the release date for this film falls on the day before Michael Jackson's 13th death anniversary. Coincidence? I don't think so. The moment Michael started breaking the ALL-TIME record sale of biggest selling album of all time- including elvis, The Beatles, etc. OVERNIGHT they called him a freak, a homosexual, a child molester, and everything they could do to turn the public against him. If you saw the Elvis film yourself, you would have seen what they did to him as well the moment he got overnight success and started to say he was being too provocative and couldn't dance the way he could on stage. Michael had it even WORSE- as a black man.

/// Statistically, he is still the #1 artist of all time. I'm not saying this from devotion, rather, if you stack up all the stats and compare side-by-side with the competitors, he holds most of the records (except most #1 songs in the USA): Elvis had most gold/platinum, multi platinum; most Top 10 songs, Top 40, Top 100, and double-sided single hits; most weeks, most chart activity, and having #1 hits simultaneously on Pop, R&B, and Country, and being sucessful in nearly every genre he covered. The beatles still hold the most USA #1 hits on pop chart, but all the other areas they are far behind Elvis. Unlike Beatles, Queen, Mjackson (who were stuck in only 1 main genre), Elvis had a quality none of these others had, ability to adapt to any music style: For example, those artists I just named could not do what he did: sing operatic ballads, sing Gospel, Country, Adult contempoary, blues, spanish flavored music, bluegrass covers, etc etc. Can you picture Mjackson trying to sing My way, or Queen sing Country; or Beatles do gospel? Finally, when other artists... beatles, Mjackson, Madonna, little wayne, etc all claim to have exceeded Elvis chart history, they are only quoting the ---HOT 100 chart--- which came about in late 1958, thus cutting out 5 years of Elvis career! You must factor in the TOP 100 (which began in 1955) because Elvis began his career before the HOT 100. ***thats how all of these artists are outdoing Elvis statistics because they cut out his biggest hits from the 1950s.
The movie got this part false.. At the ending credits they tried to spread propaganda and say Elvis is the highest selling artist of all time. Elvis was then confronted on the set of "Jailhouse Rock", and Elvis said that he never made the shoe shining comment. Various men were jealous of Elvis, so one way of attacking Elvis, is to spew lies. Very simple. In order for a comment to be valid, it has to be on camera or audio. "Jews do it on purpose." quoted by Michael Jackson on audio documentation. MJ also attacked Jews on the famous song, "They don't care about us", off his Nazi imperialist inspired album, "History."😱
Elvis gave Rock & Roll a face: Elvis Presley was singing in the 1940s in black and white churches down south during segregation in the great depression. His viewpoint coming from dirt poverty was profound. His twin brother was stillborn and buried in a shoebox. His home was a shotgun shack with no electricity. That was his humble beginnings. He grew up in two legendary neighborhoods Shakerag in Mississippi and Beale Street in Memphis Tennessee. Elvis came from gospel and country and knew as many blue songs is BB King and they were great friends as you saw in the movie. That’s the holy trinity of rock ‘n’ roll. So Elvis was absolutely a pioneer as he was singing before Little Richard and Chuck Berry cut their first record. ELVIS MERGED THE BLUES AND ROCKABILLY AND GOSPEL and gave it a sound and stage presentation. NOBODY LOOKED OR SOUNDED LIKE HIM…. He was absolutely one of its pioneers and he engineered a very creative style that’s inspired everyone in the business one way or another. For a white man to be breaking segregation laws and fighting for black artists to be able to enter THE FRONT OF music venues and treated with dignity the same way a white person forever changed those dark and dirty “colored only “ entrances on the rear or side of venues. No single human being change the face of music more than Elvis Presley dead and that’s just plain facts. ---
You divorced the man don’t say you still have feelings for him! You were married for only 6 years then dumped him and never left Graceland! for over 50 years! Move along Prissy Beauleau you are not a Presley anymore! You’d like to think so but you’re not!
Elvis Presley grew up in a majority Black community and was very religious with him attending Gospels at his local church for example, Elvis's 1968 comeback with his "If I can dream" was and still is his in my opinion his proudest moment as a tribute to a terrible year, (1968) for the USA in which Martin Luther King was assassinated in Memphis, (home of Elvis Presley). Finally his backup singers of the late 60s and early 70s the Inspirations were Black singers who have over the years spoken positively about their time with Elvis Presley especially Sissy Whitney, Whitney Houston's mother.
Where does Elvis Presley rank all-time?
One convincing argument supporting Elvis Presley's lack of racism is the degree to which all of his HIS music was so very influenced by the Negro Spirituals and other Black music of the time, in which Presley grew up. It WAS! And, such is life and such also cannot be refuted, can it?

Massively overrated …decent singer in the early years and that’s it ….with the 60s everyone moved on and wrote their own stuff he was at the mercy of songwriters giving him rubbish

Of course Elvis was not racist. The film does a great job at addressing cultural appropriation and giving credit where credit's due whilst also showing that Elvis did what he could during the societal struggles of the time and I believe Priscilla recognizes that. Elvis grew up in a black community.

The Black community did love Elvis back in the day.
MJ was in a lot of legal trouble. Just as most people in trouble, they blame everyone else but themselves.
Elvis never called himself the "King" and would tell people that Fats Domino was the King of Rock or that Jesus is the King, not him.
Elvis and Jackie Wilson were friends. Jackie Wilson had nothing but good things to say about Elvis. Elvis helped Jackie Wilson when people were not going to his shows. When Jackie Wilson suffered a stroke and went into a coma, Elvis paid all of his medical bills for years until he died. He did that secretly, not to grandstand, but to help his friend. Elvis was the most humble, humanist popular entertainer in history.
"Throughout history, white men have always branded the pages of history with Great White Hopes putting Whites over Blacks like nobles like Elvis being the King of Rock and Roll, Springsteen being The Boss and The Beatles being the best. Yes, these guys were good. But they weren't better singers or dancers than blacks. The difference is that whites control the press, the media, and they make the public believe whatever they desire. I will change this now with the power of my songs and dance and looks and total reclusiveness and mystery world. I am not prejudice, it's just time for the first black king now." - Michael Jackson
@@crazy4corbinbleux Elvis was named after people not by himself. Elvis never said Im the king but MJ with his giant ego painted his portrait surroubded by angels on big canvases and declared himself many times Im the King. Thats WHY ELvis is the most humble human being.
@@urfever Elvis was given a crown at the end of his global televised concert "Aloha From Hawaii" in 1973, and not once did he put it on his head. He claimed that Fats Domino was the true KING of rock n roll. Michael Jackson got his paper crown at Burger King and developed quite an inflated ego after the sales of his second adult solo album, "Thriller." Queen and Abba have quickly beaten its sales, and have officially surpassed Michael's old records. However, MJ fans love repeating old news that Jackson still has the "Greatest Selling Album Of All Time." Nope. 😄
@@Jake-pw7rj LOL you are comparing a Greatest Hits album (a compilation of old records) to a single new body of work?? How are those even on equal playing fields? They are not. Thriller was the first time we heard that record when released and it became THE BIGGEST SELLING ALBUM OF ALL TIME. The fact that I recently just found out Michael wrote the hits like Billie Jean, Beat It and Wanna Be Startin Something is a testament to how after all these years, I still discover new things about him that sets me in awe. What a true King.
@@crazy4corbinbleux You were told that Wacko had help by such songwriters like Ted Templeman on "Thriller." Again, the album was produced by Quincy Jones. Musicians like Eddie Van Halen were hired to play guitar because Michael Jackson could not play one musical instrument. On the other side of the coin, Prince composed all his songs, played multiple musical instruments, produced all his albums and even created musical scores like on his brilliant soundtrack to "Batman." Sorry, but Michael Jackson tapping his toes, hand clapping, and popping his lips, does not take any musical talent. It does not matter that Queen and Abba's best selling albums are hit collections. They are still selling in massive numbers and are leaving Michael Jackson in the dust. That is too bad.
Priscilla was one who was responsible for those rumors. She only cared about the film being successful because she profit from it.
@@momfluent5367 Gossip is very common in some European countries too, mainy in the South of Europe and Racism is a real issue in Europe (far worse than in the US). Americans for the most part, are good hearted people and much more down to earth than people in Europe. Nowhere is perfect but I love the US and the Southern states.
Why is it okay for a black father to say “my daughter ain’t marrying no white boy!” ? 🤔 That’s the definition of racism. It goes both ways!

Priscilla was very gracious about the film. Love endures forever.

JACKIE WILSON: "A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man's music, when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer copied from Elvis." --- JACKIE WILSON (Elvis quietly paid for Jackie's medical expenses until the day he passed away in 1977. Before Jackie's stage accident he would carry a small signed photo of Elvis in his pants pocket. Every day, bar none.)
RANDY JACKSON (of the Jackson 5): "Elvis used Rock and Roll music to bridge the gap between whites and minorities. He was a wonderful person."
LITTLE RICHARD "He sung my Tootie Fruti & by him singing it, made it bigger & made ME bigger" And then he said: “I thank God for Elvis Presley. I thank the Lord for sending Elvis to open the door so I could walk down the road...”- Little Richard
CISSY HOUSTON: "Elvis loved gospel music. He was raised on it. And he really did know what he was talking about. He was singing Gospel all the time - almost anything he did had that flavor. You can't get away from what your roots are." - Cissy Houston (The Sweet Inspirations co-founder & member & sang vocals for Elvis, also mother of Whitney Houston)
Calling Elvis racist is equivalent of saying a dog is a cat! Far from it
I had a huge argument with a friend about elvis. In the end it was agreed that elvis, himself, was not racist.

I'm Black American Grew up Hip Hop. My first Love is Rock n roll Music with ELVIS as the KING of it All. ELVIS the King, ARETHA the Queen, James Brown the God Father. God Bless America. Rest in peace Elvis Aretha and James.
Hello! I agree. Did you know how close James Brown was to Elvis? They were as close as blood brothers... even during the race riots and tensions of the 1960s and aftermath of the 1970s. Listen to this song: LOBVE ME TENDER - JAMES BROWN's Elvis TRIBUTE. ruclips.net/video/zrBk0WErpHU/видео.html
JB QUOTE: “I wasn’t just a fan, I was his brother. He said I was good and I said he was good; we never argued about that. Elvis was a hard worker, and dedicated, and God loved him … I love him and hope to see him in heaven. There will never be another like that Soul Brother”.
ELVIS' FUNERAL: During Elvis' private family wake, James was the LAST ONE TO LEAVE. 3 hours and 30+ minutes later -- it took several of his security guards to physically help him out of the room. James was devastated -- James and Elvis sang Gospel together many a night to all hours of the morning at each others' homes. James Brown was considered family by the Presleys because they were so close.
This movie was amazing... We've been twice in the cinema to watch it. Very sad story but at the same time so amazing... And the music... The soundtrack is just UNBELIEVABLE!!!
It's a movie. You want accuracy, watch a documentary. Even the Kurt Russell one was full of errors. Top Gun 2 isn't 100% accurate to Navy standards either.
I've seen Top Gun 2 and Elvis 11 times already. Got Regal Unlimited. Both films still draws a sizeable crowd on weekdays.
@Johnny NotEnglish I think the goal was to make the movie more dramatic. I don’t think they should’ve done that, but I’m just a fan. Who am I to say what they can and can’t do. Especially when his family approves of it
Johnny and goat... You know better... Good for you 👍... I'm not going to argue as if I do, we will find out Elvis was not a man he was cis woman etc.etc.... I like this film that's all can I or I can't say what I think these days?
What do you want to say? Elvis didn't sing?
Wasn't special? Script has been accepted by.his beloved.and that's it.
Won't watch a movie glamorizing a pedophile. You should be ashamed of yourself.

This makes me emotional and Elvis was a great guy
Depends. Racism belief ones race is better than another. When it comes to music, no. He thought blacks were better but that is music. In general, yes. Outside music yes.
Such a truly honest interview thank you Piers. Elvis was 1 of a kind...complete raw talent and such a kind hearted soul who adored his fans. Haters are not worth the time of day...they are just ignorant. ⚡️🎶🙏👑

No One Knew Elvis “Better Than Pricilla & Lisa-Marie All I Can Say Is As A Woman It Would Have Been Incredibly Hard To Watch Other Wiman Flock All Over Your Husband & People For Get At The End Of The Day They Were Husband & Wife”….Pricilla Most Likely Had More Private Time With Elvis Living Under A Seperate Roof, Than They Ever Did When They Lived Together Because Of People Always Being There 24 Hours A Day…
Elvis Certainly Did Love & Adore Pricilla & As A Woman The Only Comfort She Could Have Is “He Always Came Home To Her & You Can See His Love For Her Was Unbelievably Real…
To Hear Any One Even Attempt To Say “Elvis” Could Have Been Racist “Is Unbelievably Untrue He Grew Up Around That Culture & Had Many Dark Friends, He Spent A Great Deal Of Time To Try & Fight Racism Back In That Era….
It’s Upsetting Hearing That Anyone Would Try & Tarnish A Man “WHOM ONLY EVER WANTED EVERYONE TO BE TREATED EQUALY”…..
“He always came home to her” wtf? So his cheating was ok as long as he came home to her?
Why would anyone even SUGGEST such a thing??!!??? Elvis lived in a time and place where he too suffered simply for NOT being racist. Elvis loved Jack and Bobby, and Dr. king.
Unfortunately, there are lots of people who believe that he was racist solely because he was around the time of racial segregation.
What a classy and down to earth lady.
The movie does not portray Elvis as racist. He was a friend of the black community, well appreciated .
I think Pricilla needs to recognize this: she is NOT Elvis widow. She is the Mother of ONE child. And the Mother of another man’s child, as well.
Elvis had other relationships with women before his death.
She is decades long a divorced partner of Elvis…..
Elvis would not take photos with blk.people if he was racist.
He had blk.female singers.
Not one white male had blk.singers in the 60s but Frank Sanatra

I have never really liked Priscilla. I think she is calculated, cold, and most definitely a woman whose had her eye on the money right from the start. Look at what she is doing now dragging her own granddaughter into court to challenge and contest her dead daughter's will.
My ranking of the Greatest Artists of All Time:
1. Michael Jackson
2. Everyone else
The movie got this part false.. At the ending credits they tried to spread propaganda and say Elvis is the highest selling artist of all time. That spot goes to no one other than MICHAEL JACKSON i.e. THRILLER. !! It's disturbing they got away with that. @@crazy4corbinbleux Based on a lie that was written about Elvis in an AA magazine.
